Accommodations:  House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 6-8)

Situated on the banks of the beautiful Nottely River, you will find our home a relaxing escape from everyday life. Pull up a chair, or lean back and snuggle in on our porch swing, to watch the river flow by, or stare into the pines and hardwoods of the Nantahala Game Lands beyond, for a glimpse of whitetail deer.

Secluded, yet convenient. We're at the "end of the road", but only a short ten to fifteen minute drive from Murphy, the center of everything in this part of Western North Carolina! Located between the Ocoee River in Tennessee, and the Nantahala River in North Carolina where whitewater Olympic contenders have trained. Here you will find a town reminiscent of days gone by with a very walkable main street and enough cafes, restaurants, and shops to keep you interested. Side-by-side flea markets close by on weekends, flea market in the city on Tuesdays, and even a downtown farmers market on Saturdays. This is just a beautiful area to travel the back roads and create your own adventure!

Things to do:
For those who enjoy a more active vacation, there's blue-ribbon trout streams, golfing, canoeing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, boating, horseback riding, hiking trails, mountain biking trails, and ATV trails, all within a few minutes drive of this quiet retreat on the river.

Wait, there is even more! Drive the Cherohala Skyway (rivals the Blue Ridge Parkway for unobstructed long-range views). Ride the "Tail of the Dragon" through Deal's Gap. Tree watch in the Joyce Kilmore Memorial Forest. Visit the John Campbell Folk School for classes in folk art, crafts, contra-dancing, blacksmithing, bluegrass music, etc. Or just take a drive through a country-side replete with post card views.

Daytrips: Blue Ridge, Georgia has wonderful downtown shops and you must visit the Toccoa Riverside Restaurant for a wonderful meal.

Ellijay, Georgia - is the Apple Capital of Georgia - travel along Highway 52 to visit apple barns. Close by is Amicalola Falls - 729 feet of waterfalls, the largest east of the Mississippi.

Dahlonega, Georgia - has shopping at its best and home of The Smith House - family-style restaurant that is awesome!

Cherokee, North Carolina - has the casino and you can trout fish on the Cherokee reservation land for a nominal price.

Asheville, North Carolina - home of The Biltmore House that is a must see!

Bryson City, North Carolina - make reservations through Great Smoky Mountain Railroad for a beautiful trip along the Nantahala River and visit the River's End Restaurant for great food.

Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee - visit Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, as well as many outlet stores. Gatlinburg has the seven mile loop full of craft stores.

    • Just returned from the Nottely River Retreat and had a really hard time leaving. The location is so relaxing and inviting. The end of the road location was perfect for our dog Maizy who had a BIG time in the river swimming and chasing sticks. She even made friends with the neighbors dogs. The house is comfortable and the large deck is awesome. The sound of the river encourages you to just sit and relax and appreciate the beautiful surroundings It was great being able to turn off the air conditioner and open the windows in the summer to feel the cool, fresh mountain air... We WILL return and will tell all our friends about this jewel in Murphy...

    • 10/18-25/2008 Stayed at river retreat for a great relaxing week. The cabin was very comfortable and enjoyed our daily visits from Murphy and Lady. The river sounds lulled us to sleep each night. Would recommend this to anyone wanting to get away from it all.

    • We very much enjoyed our stay at the relaxing Nottely River Retreat. Loved sitting on the porch and listening to the river flow by. The home was very well supplied and comfortably furnished. Lots of helpful information about the area was provided. We enjoyed rafting the Ocoee river, tubing in the Smokies, and scenic drives through the mountains. Would love to return someday!

    • Found a bit of Heaven in Murphy. The home is very comfortable and furnished with everything you could need. Listening to the river run on the porch was incredibly relaxing. It was so wonderful that I never watched the TVs that are there. I felt very comfortable and relaxed for the first time in a long time. What a wonderful jewel in the mountains. Cannot wait to go back

    • What a wonderful time we had at the Nottely River Retreat! We watched the leaves change, fished, read, and played games by the river. We really were able to get away from our hectic lives and relax, enjoy the surroundings and each other. The cabin was perfect and had everything that we could possibly need plus more. The location was perfect, close to many tourist attractions in NC, Tennessee, and Georgia. We would love to come back and stay again sometime!

    • All 6 of us had such a wonderful time at the Nottely River Retreat! We all agreed, it is a treasure hidden in the woods along the river. We spent much of our stay riding our motorcycles (and riding the Tail of the Dragon from Deal's Gap!), and visiting Cherokee, Helene, GA, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and downtown Murphy. We stopped in at the ice cream store in Murphy and met the neighbor who lives close to the cabin. We explained we were having those nightly visits from "Murphy" and "Lady", their dogs, and we were more than happy to give them a dog bone or two! It was such a nice, quiet spot to relax and get back to nature; we all want to return next year, if not sooner! Thanks Janice & Larry!!!

    • Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with our family. It was the most relaxing week we have had in a long time. Everything that you could possibly need was at our fingertips. The stream gave us a lot of fun memories and was great to hear and watch as we relaxed. I would recommend this to everyone. It was a place that you could live. Thanks, the Fulford's

    • We have been coming to the Murphy/ Hayesville area once or twice a year for the past 11 years. We have never stayed at a more beautiful place along the river. Our Sister-in-law even commented that she didn't care if she caught any trout because the scenery itself and the sounds from the river were enough for her. The cabin was very nice and we could tell that a lot of effort was made to provide everything we might need. Even pencils and a sharpener. We all caught some trout and just had a great time. You can be assured we will be coming back again. Thank you so much for your thoughtfullness, Dave Carroll

    • The place was fantastic ! Clean had everything we needed or could ever need . We spent the first week of April at the retreat , the Trout fishing was great ! These were not stocked fish , they were wild rainbows , caught 18 fish the first 2 days and lost one that was really a trophy . Saw several other big fish too . They are smart but if you can figure out what they want you better hold on to your rod . We plan on going back to the Retreat as soon as we can get the time . Larry and Jan were so nice to us , we love to talk to them . Do yourself a favor and book the retreat for the stay of a lifetime !
