As seen in the MAY, 2006 WASHINGTONIAN MAGAZINE "WEEKEND GETAWAYS" and AUGUST 2, 2006 WASHINGTON POST "ESCAPES" COLUMN, this particular unit was also photographed in a recent edition of CHEASPEAKE LIFE MAGAZINE (see link below) and was the featured cottage in the SPRING 2007 COTTAGE STYLE MAGAZINE.
Drive through the scenic vineyard of White Fences Vineyard to your charming cottage on the headwaters of Carter's Creek. The cottages in Vineyard Grove are called "Tents" (after the historic Martha's Vineyard revival camps on which they are modeled) but are fully-equipped, new (2005) and completely modern three-bedroom homes, designed in a Carpenter Gothic style. White Fences is a new award winning Virginia vineyard, and released its third vintage in the summer of 2007. (Pick up a bottle or two while you're there!) It is also a stop on the Virginia Northern Neck wine trail.
Tent 16 offers a lovely view of Carter's Creek and the surrounding woods, a fully-equipped kitchen with granite countertops, built-in sound system, relaxing outdoor shower, and free hi-speed internet access. The home is professionally custom-decorated in a chic and romantic, French-country style. Each of the three bedrooms has its own private full bathroom. Enjoy your morning coffee on the tranquil screened back porch overlooking the creek, while you watch for wildlife and hear wild turkeys in the distance.
Irvington is a quaint small town on the Northern Neck of Virginia bordering on the Chesapeake Bay and Rappahannock River. The Virginian Magazine recently referred to it in terms of where "Manhattan meets Mayberry." It is so quaint and "Americana," that the town was the setting for the recent series of JC Penny American Living TV commercials. The Northern Neck - birthplace of George Washington and Robert E. Lee and the site of some of the nation's earliest settlements - is rich in colonial and civil war history. Museums, shopping, antiquing, boating, fishing, biking, hiking, golf, and many other activities abound. For more information, visit the Northern Neck Tourism Council on the web.
Tent 16 at Vineyard Grove is managed and serviced by the nationally known local Hope and Glory Inn. USA TODAY and CNN named the cottages at the Hope and Glory and Vineyard Grove one of their "Top Ten Places to Rent a Cottage" in the U.S. For the fourth consecutive year, the travel authority Frommer's awarded the Inn and its 14 cottages with its highest rating - three stars. Only five other lodging properties in Virginia can make that claim. The H&G handles all rentals (see link below). BE SURE TO REQUEST "TENT 16" when you call - there are other Tents for rent at similar prices, but they may not have the same amenities and charm. Tent 16 is available for rent by the day, week, or month.
