Wanted this to be just an excellent vacation, so I ready MANY reviews here on VRBO and settled on Paul's place on Geary Blvd. It exceeded all my expectations and resulted in so many quirky little encounters and such fun for myself, husband and 14 y/o daughter (who confirms that the sofa bed is very comfy). There is so much within easy walking distance of the apartment -- do not miss the beaches north and west! Or the Russian bakery a few blocks east... or the Indian restaurant across the street... or so many of the places already mentioned both by former visitors and by Paul (who sends you a packet of useful info. when you book -- clearly a pro). Everyone says this is one of the best cities in the world to visit and I'd been here for business many times, but never had this sort of experience and I think a lot of it had to do with staying in a neighborhood just a bit out of the way (stress on the small -- 15 minutes to downtown on the Express) instead of right in town. We are midwesterners who drive to everything due to distances and lack of public transport, so not savvy and we had no trouble whatsoever immediately using all forms of public transport. San Francisco makes it easy and staying on Geary made it even easier as the bus drops you essentially at the doorstep and comes and goes straight into the heart of things. The place was clean, plenty of towels, all comfortable and really appreciated the reasonable rental rate. Very much recommend!

We had a wonderfull time in San Francisco and this apartment made it even better. The apartment was much better than we expected. The whole process from booking to checking in and out was perfect. We loved the travel guide that the owners provided, the local resstaurant suggestions were really great, our favorite restaurant was Pacific Cafe, which was just a short walk from the apartment. The apartment was clean, cozy and so much nicer than a hotel room. We purchased the 7 day bus pass and it really is a great savings. We loved being so close to the Golden Gate Park. We totally recommend this apartment.

We will never stay in a hotel again. Perfect apartment in a terrific location, The owners have thought of absolutly everything that could enhance your stay. As previous renters have said, it really felt like we were staying in a friends apartment. Cant wait to come back.

Best apartment Ever! We are two retired Australian couples from Melbourne on the last leg of our 3 month long vacation, We toured all over Europe, stayed in 8 holiday apartments in 7 different countries, And this apartment was by far the best place we have stayed in. I wish the European apartment owners would take tips from Paul & Debbie. Sometimes it’s the little things that you don’t expect that really make a place so much better. We were very surprised when Paul did not ask us for a security deposit (The other 7 apartments all required a security deposit, it tied up a lot of our cash, waiting for the deposits to be returned) Paul said he had stopped taking security deposits, because since he started renting the apartment to tourists over 5 years ago, he has never had to retain any part of any security deposit ever. So he now has an “Honor” system, he states on his booking form, “Please do not be the FIRST person to make me start taking security deposits again”. We were so impressed with this concept and the trust he places in his renters and as a result we took extra care of his apartment. Plus he does not charge a cleaning fee, again a nice surprise. The apartment is really great, we loved the concept of leaving food from previous renters; don’t go to the supermarket until you see what is actually in the kitchen cabinets, we had bought olive oil, salt & pepper etc, and then when we arrived at the apartment, there was loads of olive oil and condiments, plus lots of other foods, even a few beers in the fridge. We tossed a coin to see which couple would get the bed, myself and my wife lost the toss and got the sofa bed, it was actually very big and very comfortable. Probably the most comfortable sofa bed we have ever slept on. We loved the selection of DVD’s and music CD’s and also free Netflix on-demand moves. The desktop computer was a great asset for printing maps and also our airplane boarding passes. The neighborhood was fantastic, we loved being able to walk to Golden Gate park, (only 4 blocks). There are tons of restaurants within a few blocks from the apartment. Our favorites were, Breakfast, the café two doors away, Lunch, Bills place for real American hamburgers, (one block away on Clement Street) Dinners, Pacific Café, Azzia, Chapeou, Ton chang. We had a few beers in the Tiki Bar, Trader Sams, very friendly people and a great fun place. Thanks Paul & Debbie, 10 out of 10 John, Patricia, Ken & Alice

The apartment is located in a really nice part of the city. Walking distance to Golden Gate park, The Presidio and Ocean Beach. The 38 bus takes about 20 minutes to get to downtown and the bus comes every 5 minutes. The neighborhood has lots of fantastic restaurants, we loved Pacific Cafe and Khan Toke. We had breakfast most mornings in the little cafe 3 doors away. The apartment was super cozy, clean and the bed was really comfortable. We loved the added extra of the desktop computer. San Francisco is one of the best places we have ever visited and finding this FAB apartment made it even better.

Our family of four stayed in the apartment at Geary Blvd for 7 days in august 2011 and enjoyed it immensely. The apartment was spacious, clean, tidy, fully equipped and perfectly situated for our itineraries. We loved the big kitchen working area, the wood flooring and the fireplace. The newly opened organic supermarket "Fresh and Easy” was just a few blocks away (15 min on foot) and supplied us with fresh fruits and vegetables. The bus stop across the street had great connections for the Down Town. The super fast Wii-Fi internet connection enabled us to be on-line quickly and check what is going on in the San Funcisco around the clock. Being overseas visitors we appreciated the Nokia phone charger with U.S. plug adapter, HP Desktop PC with the Printer and the Philips Voip handset for Skype ready phone calls. The valuable help of our host Vladimir was great indeed. He was willing to accept our FedEx packages while we were sightseeing the city and hand them over to us afterwards. Great apartment, great value for money!

We stayed for 7 nights in June 2011, The apartment was everything as described, Very Clean, Very Spacious and very comfortable. We loved staying here and loved the local area of the city. The sofa bed was perfect for my two children and the big queen bed in the bedroom was very comfortable. We loved having milk shakes and big American Cheese Burgers in Bill's Place restaurant, its just one block from the apt, you have to visit it. We had a very happy holiday in San Francisco. Wonderful Apartment in a great neighborhood My wife and I stayed for a week in March. This was our first time to ever stay in an apartment rather than a hotel. We did a really extensive search before we booked this particular apartment. The reviews are great for lots of apartments, but what attracted us to this place was its one price includes everything, the owner stated in his email, "No other fees or charges" whereas other places had a low upfront per night rate, then tagged on as many extra fees as possible, it maybe just me, but I hate that, okay enough about the price. The apartment is nicely decorated, has new furniture, great kitchen and two TV's with premium cable, it also has a desktop computer. The apartment is located in a very nice neighborhood, we walked to a different restaurant every night, had drinks in a few local bars, had coffee every morning from the really nice coffee shop across the street. We bought the 7 day bus pass at the airport when we arrived, great value for getting all around the city, plus the pass works on the Cable cars, which cost $5 one way, so it really saves you a lot. We loved our first vacation in San Francisco and look forward to visiting this amazing city again, and we intend to stay in this apartment the next time. Rick & Joanne, Toronto, Canada

Hi Paul, I just tried to post a comment on the VRBO site, and it will not allow me as I posted a comment on my last visit in 2007. Here is what I was going to post: We stayed here in Dec 2007 and had a totally wonderful time; we loved San Francisco so much that we could not wait to return. The apt has been painted and spruced up since our last visit, it was great back then and it’s even better now. We love the neighborhood; it’s great to be able to walk to so many restaurants. Our favorite restaurants were Chapeau (French), Aziza (Moroccan) and Pacifica Café (Seafood). You do not need to rent a car, as the bus service is terrific, make sure you purchase a bus pass at the airport when you arrive. I would suggest doing the land’s end walk, its finishes right at the Cliff House. Overall another great vacation in San Francisco. Lynn Rubbathan, Newark, NJ

Fab apartment in a great part of the city. The apartment was better than we ever expected, big but very cozy. Enjoying a nice glass of wine in front of the fire was so nice. The bed was really comfortable, the kitchen was very well equipped and the computer was a real nice extra. There are literally dozens of places to eat within a 3 block radius of the Apartment. Our favorite restaurant was Khan Toke, the Thai restaurant just down the street. Also the burgers were amazing at Bill’s place, a real American experience. Great Holiday accomadation

Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful, Location, Location, Location. We had the best time ever in Paul's apartment. We walked to Golden Gate Park, rented a boat in the small lake in the park, then rented bikes and got to see most of the park, great day. We also walked to Baker beach, sun bathing at its best with a fantastic view of the Golden Gate Bridge. The bus stop is directly outside the apartment, and the buses come every 5 minutes, it gets you to down town in about 20 minutes, great shopping in Union Square. We took Paul's advice on local restaurants around the apartment. The best was Pacific Café, its located on Geary @ 34th ave, just a short walk from the apartment, food was amazing, they do not take reservations, but they do give you a free glass of wine while you are waiting for your table. We had breakfast every morning at the small little diner 4 doors from the apartment, great breakfast at very reasonable prices. Had drinks a few nights at Trader Sams, really great cocktails and a great fun crowd. The apartment was really comfortable for the four of us, it everything you could ever need, the desktop computer was a super bonus; we were able to print our boarding passes for our flight home. We all agreed that this apartment was so much better than a down town touristy hotel. My wife and I stayed for 4 nights Sept. 30 - Oct. 4 2010. We travelled from Australia to attend the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Speedway Meadow Golden Gate Park. The location was perfect and we were able to walk to the festival. It was also convenient being located next to a hardware store -- we could purchase a beach chair for the festival! The apartment was great and the provision of the computer and skype phone was terrific. There was a small hiccup upon our arrival with Vladimir not home, and a key not in the lock box, but some people in an Indian restaurant across the road helped us out with phone calls and seats till Vladimir arrived! No problem in the end. I would recommend this apartment.

We have two sets of keys and the previous guests took one set with them in error, Vladimir thought that the other set was still in the lock box, he should have doubled checked the lock box. I rented Paul's apartment out for two weeks with my sisters. Everything was great! The location is close to great food, and the bus stop is right across the street. The space was perfect for three people. Vladimir, the caretaker, is very friendly and will help you out with whatever you need. My sisters and I greatly enjoyed our stay in San Francisco, and will recommend this place to others we know. Thanks Paul!

I would recommend anyone heading to SF to stay here - a great location, just a reasonable walk to Cliff House, Presidio, Golden Gate Park and in a cool neighborhood with tons of restaurants, giving a real sense of life as a resident would see it. I'm really glad we did not spend extra $$ to stay down in the tourist areas.

We've had the pleasure of staying at Paul's apartment over both Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, and were very happy with the accommodations and location. The apartment is spacious and safe, and includes a comfortable bed and full kitchen. The neighborhood is great - lots of restaurants, access to mass transit, parks nearby. Check out the nearby beaches, trails, and Sea Cliff neighborhood. We hope to stay here again in the future. Thank you, Paul!

We stayed at the apartment for 11 days and it was perfect, who could ask for more? The price is affordable, and there is a lot of space for a family of four, if compared to hotel rooms! The place is warm, cosy, well furnished. The kitchen is fully equipped and I often cooked breakfast and dinner very easily. We didn't mind the traffic noise, being very similar to the noise we have in Rome :-) It's not so terrible at night, really. The neighbourhood is safe and friendly, we appreciated having everything we needed at walking distance: the supermarket, the laundry (plenty of!), the bank, a choice of restaurants, a very good coffee shop, a Wallgreens, etc. it made us feel as residents! Having two tv sets, a computer and a Playstation was great for my sons. We particularly enjoyed being so close to the beaches, we walked to China Beach in the morning and to Ocean Beach in the afternoon, fantastic places! The bus stop is just in front of the apartment, bus n.38 is frequent and gets you right in the city center in about 30 minutes, we found it extremely convenient. The information brochure was so precious, too! May I just suggest to update bus price and wifi password? Thank you Paul and thanks to Vladimir, who kindly helped and adviced us and even called us a taxi for the airport. Hope to come again some time in the future!

Hallo, auch ich kann das Appartement nur empfehlen. Es liegt super günstig, man ist schnell in der City aber auch schnell in der Natur und wer diese liebt, um Sport zu treiben, zu joggen oder auch nur zum Spaziergang am Beach, der ist hier richtig. Alles ist vorhanden im Appartement und man fühlt sich wie zu Hause, wenn einem nach einem langen Tag in SF die Füsse weh tun. Danke , Paul Also, I agree with everybody. The appartement is perfect and it's really a nice place for living in the city. If you like jogging, if you like the nature- so you are rigth but even the way in the city with the muni 38 makes it so easy to do shopping and visiting a great city. Also, you have all the possibilities do live like a local and make you every day shopping around - it isn't a problem. Thanks, Paul L'appartement est vraiement super. On peut y vivre comme les locaux. L'apartement est trés bien équipé. Il y a beaucoup de supermarket et le muni 38 va au centre souvent par jour, presque chaque 5 minutes. I stayed at the Geary apartment with three friends from September 30 - October 7, 2009. We found the apartment to be so charming and comfortable!! The location couldn't have been more perfect for us! Great markets and restaurants so close - and Trad'r Sam's immediately became a 'staple' for each day we were there! We were in SF for the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park - so a five block walk to the park was also very convenient. We had no problems with transportation in SF - what a great city! Vladimir was so charming and full of information - nice to have friendly neighbors!

Thank you for a wonderful stay. The location was excellent for all the city related activities I needed to attend to. Much better than fighting the throngs near Union Square, etc at a hotel. I liked having a place (a great place) to call my own. Even though I just live in Sonoma County, it was fun to play city resident for a week. Great restaurants a block away on Clement. If you have a car, parking wasn't even that bad. The computer set up was so helpful. I appreciated not having to bring my laptop for once. My 13 year-old nephew stayed one of the nights and brought his PS2 games - you have fan in him. Vladimir was as helpful as could be, and very sweet. He even would leave reminder notes for street cleaning. :) I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thanks again, Paul!

After spending three relaxing days at Paul's cabin in (Wine Country) Guerneville, California I couldn't wait to see what was waiting for me in San Francisco. The first thing that caught my attention was the GREAT location! I always wanted to live in the city where everything was within walking distant. We loved walking down the street to go to church, eating at the local restaurants or just going downstairs to the grocery store and buying a few items for the apartment. We also took advantage of the local transportation (38 L Geary bus, Cable Car, etc.) and went to NOB Hill, Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, etc. The travel information package that Paul provides to you prior to your visit (and he also has a copy on the premise) is like having a travel agent at your finger tips! The apartment was wonderful and had everything!I especially loved the Internet access. I can't wait to contact you again to plan my follow up trip next year! The weather in San Francisco makes you feel like you are in the Caribbean, I miss it already!

We had two fantastic stays at the apartment. We used buses to get everywhere (Haight, Downtown, Presido, Exploratorium etc)and even with Alex's pushchair it was easy and really cheap! It was great to come back to the apartment each evening. It had everything we needed and we loved relaxing with a glass of wine in the evening as Alex slept in the bedroom. Very sad to leave, would recommend it to anyone.

We stayed for one week at Paul's apartment and were thrilled with the experience. The 4 of us slept comfortably and we made great use of the location. Played some golf at the Lincoln park club which is 3 minutes away, went jogging by the beach, and we took the bus and drove downtown when necessary. Best of all, we ate the best dim sum and sushi at nearby restaurants. Overall, it's a great place; simple, clean and well located.

Great location. No car needed here. The local bus (38 Geary) takes you to all the downtown activity within 20 minutes, and seems to run every 2 minutes. The apartment is surrounded by about 100 dining establishments of all ethnicities. The owner, Paul, is a genial host.

Stupendous Holiday.We booked a package with this apartment and the cabin in the wine country.This was our first time to visit the US, so we decided to follow all Paul’s tips in his information brochure.We took a taxi from the airport to the apartment, and planned to pick up a hertz car on the day we were to go to the wine country.The first night we had dinner in the Pacific Café, The second night we went to Chapeau and our third night we had dinner in Khan Toke Thai House. Each Restaurant was fabulous.We also had a few drinks in Trader Sam’s, what a hilarious bar!We also had breakfast in the little café 2 doors away, cheap and really good.Did all the touristy things, the 38 bus comes every few minutes and has you downtown really fast, Tip: get off on Powell Street, then take the cable car to Fisherman’s wharf.The apartment was wonderful; it felt like you were staying in a friends place,The drive to Sonoma was great, especially driving across the Golden Gate Bridge,Of course we stopped took tons of photos of the bridge.WOW! The cabin is so romantic & quaint. We didn’t want to leave it.We went to the local supermarket and bought a bottle of wine and snacks,We snuggled up beside the fire and watched TV.We got up early the next morning and drove to Bodega Bay, wonderful views and walks.Had a great dinner in Bodega Bay, then back home to the cozy cabin.On our third day, we visited some of the local wineries.The town of Guerneville is full of local shops and restaurants,Had breakfast in Pat’s place twice, really good.Our last night we had dinner in Mosaic in Forestville, you have to go there, it was one of the best meals we ever had.Follow the tips in Paul’s brochure, we did and every bit of advice was spot on.

Paul's apartment is a wonderful place to stay. It was great to have a "home" to come back to after long, tiring days. We enjoyed many of the local ethnic restaurants close-by, and fully utilized San Francisco's public transportation system. A great vacation!

We had a very enjoyable stay at apartment. The accommodation was comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped which was a great pleasure to find everything that was needed. Paul We really enjoyed your apartment when we visited in October. Our daughter and family live nearby so we had the opportunity to visit with them quite often. Our grandchildren also loved coming to our apartment. The location is great. There was no need to rent a car. We took the bus everywhere. We had a WONDERFUL time in San Francisco and the apartment was perfect for us! We were totally comfortable and thrilled that the apartment had everything that we needed. We live in a rather monocultural area, so it was really neat to walk down Geary and stop at all of the shops with food and items from so many different cultures. On the first evening, we took a walk in the other direction and had a great meal with a fantastic view at the Cliff House restaurant. On the way, we looked down a side steet and caught our first glimpse of the Golden Gate Bridge. The light was just right and it really looked bright orange/gold. As it turned out, that was our best view for the whole trip because it was rather foggy on the other days. All in all, we highly recommend staying at Paul's apartment. For us, it was much more comfortable that a hotel room, and we felt that we were able to experience the "real" San Francisco rather than just the tourist spots.

It was a famous time in San Francicso, although we saw more clouds than sun. The appartement was pretty nice, very clean and fully equipped. The bus to downtown makes a rental car nearly not necessary. I can really recommend the apartment! Reservation, payment was absolutely easy!

Paul. The apartment was very comfortable with all the amenities one would need. We found the local great with lots of interesting restaurants around and grocery stores and laundry facilities just a block away. Paul, Your apartment was a refreshing alternative to a hotel stay, to say the least! We had five in our party and your place was a clean, homey space with enough room to spread out a bit. We found the internet access to be incredibly helpful for planning bus routes, printing maps and connecting with home. It was easy to come back to the apartment and cook, or stay out and bring home the leftovers. The "tips" from the binder and from Vladimir saved us steps and found us some interesting spots. We had a wonderful stay on Geary while visiting San Fran for the first time. The apartment was extremely comfortable and we enjoyed a great meal at Tommy's Mexican down the street. What we also loved was it's central location to the bus lines as we could easily go downtown, to Baker Beach, etc. Great experience and would do it again...thanks!

We enjoyed a most pleasant stay of 10 days in San Francisco and surroundings. Paul's Irish hospitality and useful instructions were much appreciated, as was Vladimir's advice. The apartment offered all amenities (including internet access), a number of good eating places were nearby. We would certainly like to come back some day.

In french:Nous avons passé un excellent séjour à san francisco.Aucune mauvaise surprise avec l'appartement de paul. Tout était parfaitement conforme à la description. Aucun problème non plus pour récupérer les clés, malgre notre arrivée très tardive à SF (peu après minuit). En cas de problème, vous pouvez toujours contacter vladimir, qui loge juste à cote. Tres sympathique, il est de bons conseils et vous aiderait en cas de pb. En ce qui concerne la localisation, l'appartement est un excentré (il est dans le district de richmond) de downtown, mais accessible en bus (ligne 38) en environ 30 minutes. The apartment was conveniently located near several bus stops and a wide variety of resturants, bakeries and coffee shops. The neighborhood had a charming east coast feel to it. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to stay in hotels when there are places like this out there to rent. Thank you.

Great place, my daughter and I spent a week in Paul's end of June 08. The place is everything it says it is in advertisements. You have so much more than you possibly would get in a hotel room. In fact if I ever go anywhere again for more than 3 nights I will never stay in a hotel room again. The neighborhood is good too. We ate at Bills Place on Clement twice it has great American cuisine. Also ate at Tommy's Mexican a few blocks down Geary, excellent food really excellent Margaritas. Also had breakfast our last morning in SF 2-3 doors from the apartment can’t remember name, very good food. We also enjoyed a movie around the corner on Clement at the 4 Star theater to relax awhile...very nice...The bus service was great we had 7 day Muni passes. My daughter loved the Haight-Ashbury area so we went twice. I had my best meal all week in a Thai place can’t remember name. The people watching in the Haight is excellent. Vladimir, the man who looks after everything is a great guy very interesting to talk with. San Francisco is a great city, cool people, good food, easy access and thanks Paul, you set us up in your home, made us comfortable and saved me a few bucks on top of everything else...Have you checked the hotel rates in San Francisco? Holy smokes! Forget that! I'm staying at Paul's if I ever go back to this beautiful city...Oh, almost forgot...I highly recommend the night time Alcatraz tour. Not only is the tour of the rock incredible but you get an amazing view of San Francisco all lit up and proud!Thanks again Paul, VladimirDon S
