Tucked away in the aspens and overlooking the Little Cochetopa Creek and national forest, our modern vacation home with 1000 square feet is located 10 miles west of Salida, Colorado and 20 minutes from Monarch Ski Resort. Spruce Ridge Guest Home is private, secluded and scenic. It is ideal for a couple, or for a family of up to 5 using the sofa beds.

Your home away from home is completely furnished. There is a large bedroom with a queen sized bed with soft, luxurious sheets for the ultimate in sleeping comfort, a sleeper sofa, private bath and an outside deck. The living room has a sleeper sofa and/or single bed, an adjacent second bath and two outside decks. The kitchen has all the appliances of home. You'll also find a utility room with washer/dryer, and a pantry and mudroom for your hiking boots, day packs, ski boots, and jackets.

The vacation home is available for short-term and monthly rentals year-round. You'll be staying on our 35 acre llama ranch at 8,450 feet and surrounded by the San Isabel National Forest. We are on a county maintained road three miles off of US Hwy 50 and 20 minutes from either Salida or Monarch Ski Resort. Our county road is plowed regularly in the winter as is our driveway. Nevertheless, AWD or 4WD vehicles are advised for any winter vacation in Colorado.

With national forest bordering our ranch on 3 sides, you have unlimited recreation including hiking, world-class whitewater rafting and kayaking, mountain biking, wildlife viewing, birdwatching, and fly fishing in the Little Cochetopa Creek that flows right by the cabin. Salida, 10 miles away, boasts the largest downtown historical district and the largest indoor hot springs pool in Colorado. Within a 30 minute drive there are several other hot springs resorts. Salida is also renown for its diverse arts community, galleries and weekend bands.

During the summer, with reservations, you can experience one of our day or overnight llama treks with experienced staff and all equipment provided. Fall provides spectacular colors as the changing aspens contrast with dark green pines. In the winter there’s snowshoeing and cross-country skiing from the cabin, and Monarch Ski and Snowboarding Resort with classic champagne powder is only 20 minutes away. Premier snowmobiling and cross-country ski trails are close by.

We offer a non-smoking environment inside and outside. Because of our llamas and desire to have an allergy-free cabin, pets, including companion pets, are not allowed. Adults and well-behaved children are welcome.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2007

My wife and I, Dan and Lillie Jones, have lived on our 35 acre llama ranch since 1991 with 7 llamas that are used for our llama outfitting business. We built the vacation home in 2007 to provide guests like yourself a place to stay in our corner of paradise. As previous guests have said, "your vacation home is tucked away and secluded, yet easily accessible to summer and winter recreation and is the best kept secret in Colorado."

Why the Owner Chose Salida

Our vacation home is beautifully situated on a year-round creek with mountain views and access to millions of acres of year-round recreation. We have treasured our privilege to live here and to share it with others with our year-round modern guest cabin and our outfitting business.

The Unique Benefits of this Cabin

Many folks like yourself enjoy the seclusion, our year-round creek with fishing for brook trout, seeing llamas grazing from three decks and windows, the myriad of on-site and nearby recreation, the 27 plus species of birds around our vacation home, and of course, the stunning Rocky Mountains with the greatest concentration of 14,000 foot peaks (15) in the United States.

Spruce Ridge Vacation Home on Llama Ranch

A special place in the Colorado Mountains

The Spruce Ridge Vacation Home was a pure delight. Being greeted by the llamas every morning was very special and unforgetable. The cabin was clean confortable. The location of the cabin was beautiful and peaceful with hiking oportunities abound. The creeck that runs thru the ranch added much to the flavor of the rockies. We enjoyed outdoor activities such as hiking the nearby Colorado Trail, mountain biking the spectacular Monarch Crest Trail, and the endless miles of off-road trails that cater to ever level of off-road driving. Salida and Buena vista both have great restaurants. If moutain biking, stop by Absolute Bikes in Salida. They are very friendly and have the best bikes and gear available anywhere. We are looking forward to returing one day and doing a llama trek.

We throughly enjoyed our spring break stay at this cozy cabin on a llama ranch. The accomodations were just right for our family of three. We took terrific day trips to ski, visit the Great Sand Dunes and soak in the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs. It was so nice to have our home away from home to come back to in the evening.

Great place to stay - newly built cabin in beautiful area. Its a one bedroom with 2 baths, and a pullout couch also. The kitchen is fully stocked and easy to cook in (eg lots of pots, pans, utensils, etc.) It was convenient to skiing at Monarch, as well as lots of backcountry and snow shoeing spots. The owners have lots of DVDs to borrow, although there is no TV reception - which is great if you really want to "get away." We would definitely return - perhaps in the summer to do some river rafting??

An idyllic cabin in an idyllic place. Comfortable bed, deluxe shower, views from every window, serviceable kitchen, everything perfect for shedding life stress. And for those not yet altitude acclimated, the road by the cabin meanders gently up through beautiful Aspen & Pine Forests.

My husband John and I were delighted by our stay at Spruce Ridge Guest Cabin! As other guests have mentioned, it is a well-appointed and beautifully excecuted retreat with wonderful amenities. The location is just lovely and the consideration of the owners is well appreciated. We slept so well in the very comfortable bed that morning came to welcome a lovely breakfast and (oops) another three hour nap. We must have needed this relaxing retreat and know others will find this to be a well earned respite convenient to the most delightful town of Salida. Antiquing, dining at the Laughing Ladies and Patio Pancake Place- ah. I am glum at home. But hopefully we will soon return. Many thanks, Dan!

Our 3-night cabin stay at Spruce Ridge Llamas was AWESOME! The cabin was beautiful, very spacious (huge bedroom!), well decorated, and with every amenity imaginable. Surrounded by forest, there was a creek just down the hill from the back deck, with brook trout available for fishing. All we had to take was our own food, since all cooking and eating supplies were included, right down to the gas grill on the living-room deck. The owner, Dan, took us on a personal half-day llama trek (extra fee) in the forest - and although it was at 9,000', and I (the wife) am nowhere near "athletic", it was very enjoyable, and not difficult at all. We and our 12-year old son fell in love with the llamas, and were able to visit them often in their corral just up the hill, and feed them grass. I definitely rate Spruce Ridge Llamas as a wonderful 5-star vacation experience - and we have already booked our stay for next summer!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Spruce Ridge Cabin. Dan and Lillie took care of every detail to make the cabin comfortable and relaxing. It's very quiet and the bird/creek song is just enchanting. Dan is a great resource for information on local hiking/activities and enjoys sharing his knowledge! If we're ever in the area again, Spruce Ridge Cabin will be our first choice for accomodations. What a great cabin! Every detail was taken care of. Three decks to view the stream below and mountains were wonderful. We did not expect the washer and dryer, two stereos, DVD player and many other details that made a difference. Easy access to hwy 50 and half way between Ski Monarch and Salida. We will be back.
