Nairobi cottage description
The cottages, sit in the grounds of Moyo, a beautiful privately owned property, built in 2005 by Chris & Tony Scutt on the beautiful Green Park Golf and Country Club Rift Valley Leisure Comple . Cottage 1 Wageni, sleeps 2 and overlooks the Great Rift Valley and the ever changing, spectacular Lake Naivasha. Cottage 2, Kitanda, sleeps 4 and is the largest of the two cottages. Green Park is a romantic holiday destination, nature lovers, Birdwatchers or a must for golfers. The first cottage, Wageni is a large self-contained suite with its own kitchen and shower room. Cottage 2, Kitanda comprises of a two-bedrooms. This has its own separate kitchenette, shower and private outside areas. Set in thirteen acres of formal gardens, lawned areas and bush and within Green Park, a secure development of 6000 acres known as the stylish Great Rift Valley Golf and Country Club. The club has a fantastic golf course, swimming pool, tennis courts and a children's adventure club, the game roams freely and it is not unusual to see zebra on the lawn. Green Park Golf and Country Club is 15 Kms from Naivasha town centre. The town has a number of banks, a hospital, two good-sized supermarkets, hardware stores, a large arts and craft centre and a number of local kiosks selling fruit and veg. The complex boasts an 18-hole golf course which would sit comfortable in the top 100 in the UK: One difference is that you are likely to see zebra and impala strolling across the fairway. There are never more than an handful of people on the course and it is a truly unique experience. The golf fees/caddy fees are inexpensive and weekly and monthly fees gives unlimited access to the course and other facilities. There is Thursday club night and weekly competitions which give you a chance to meet and play with other residents. There are several other courses in Nairobi, Karen, Windsor and Mthaegia clubs but to name a few. There are about 150 houses on and around the course. Non-golfers are also welcome. There are tennis courts, swimming pools, massage therapies, adventure walks, bird watching tours and horse riding and a camel safari. The cottage 'Wageni' (Guest) are situated about a mile away from the golf course; set back in the bush along with the other local 'bush' dwellers. It is in the grounds of Moyo (Soul), our family home. It is secluded and private. All guests are encouraged to use the many sundowning terraces set in the grounds. this includes a 20' radius circular water tower known as 'Thingera' (Place for wise men).which has breath-taking views of the Rift Valley and Mount Longonot. The sunsets will mesmerize you. There is 24 hour security and you have to obtain a residents pass at the gate entrance. There is a grocery shop and wine store to supply your needs and all supplies can be pre-ordered and delivered to you on your arrival. There are notes in the cottages that will tell you how everything works and relevant numbers should you need them. We have also listed places of interest and nearby restaurants. At any time you can contact the owners Chris & Tony Scutt or Gilly Fraser, a neighbour is has lived in Kenya all her life and acts for us when we are not there. She can arrange golf, horse ridingand other provisions. Gilly owns the wine and local convenience stores and Tom Fraser, Gilly's husband is the Golf Captain. There are two members of staff: David Kimau can cook simple meals (curries, spaghetti and roasts) and is great for organising outdoor barbecues. He will organise the laundry (please provide wash powder) and clean the cottages and make your beds if you require. He speaks good english and is willing and able to help if asked. The groundsman can help you if you want a picnic carried to any of the sundowning terraces or if you need your car washing. Please remember that both members of staff live on-site and if you need them in the evening they are very happy to oblige. At night there is abundant wildlife and it is dangerous to venture out. There may be buffalo, so it is wise to speak with David before hand as he can escort you and will know if any game has been spotted. The plains game can be spotted all around the lake and the places that are a must to visit include: Crater Lake Game Sanctury with its troop of Colobus Monkeys. Here you can see lots of birds, take a drink at the bar or eat on the floating resturant: Chui Lodge Game Sanctury is a very 'chic' lodge that boasts 'filmstar' guests and fabulous sundowner picnics, here you will see leopards rhino and cheetahs. You can take a boat trip on the lake, watch the hippos at play, pass the old colonial 'Gin Palace' , place of the White Mischief fame: Visit Elsemere - the headquarters of Joy Adamson - Elsa the Lion: Hell's Gate game Park also has rhino, an interesting guided walk through the gourge - not for the faint hearted and you can visit a manyatta, home to the masai people. Normally we end our day with a visit to 'Carnelly's', a camp site close to the lake. This is a must. It has good food at good prices and here you can organise your hippo watching safari from here. There are other 'camps' or holiday lodges to visit. There is a yacht club, for sailors or water skying. Mount Longonot too must be explored.
There is lots of things to see, to do and to get involved with or our guests can chill and stay overlooking the great rift valley, play golf, while away the time. Africa welcomes you. Karibu Sana. We hope you enjoy your stay.

Wageni and Kitanda inside Green Park, Naivasha
Wageni and Kitanda inside Green Park, Naivasha
This beautiful house and guest house, set inside the idyllic Rift Valley Green park in Naivasha, Kenya is a perfect escape for those looking for peace, tranquility and nature. We traveled there with our three young children then aged 7, 5 and 2 and we never wanted to leave. Our extended family joined us later in the week and in total we were a group of four adults and five children. We stayed for a week and enjoyed exploring the nearby animal parks such as Nakuru national park, one of Kenya's best kept secret. When we weren't exploring the surroundings, we simply sat outside on the beautiful gardens, overlooking the famous L. Naivasha and enjoyed cool evenings around a bornfire under a starlit sky. The resident house keeper, Mr. Kamau kept us well fed with barbecued meat at our request and kept the fire going for us as long as we wanted. In the early mornings when the sun would start to rise, we would take long walks through the woods where gazelles and impalas would be frolicking freely. It was quite a treat for our young children to be in such close proximity with these harmless animals. The facilities were impeccable, the property is stunning with a beautiful interior that matches the exterior. We were very comfortable and would happily recommend it to anyone- singles, families, couples, groups of friends, family reunion, anyone looking for the perfect place to sit back and relax and enjoy peace and quiet at a very affordable rate.

Owner response: I am so pleased that you and your family enjoyed your stay: Combining two units gave you more flexibility and relaxation. The arrangement of the cottages encourages lots of "together" time and also time alone. The perfect way to share your children's holiday experiences with others. Look forward to your return visit.
A splendid cottage in a stunning location.
A splendid cottage in a stunning location.
We chose Wageni cottage as our rental home for 6 months to provide us with that real experience of living in Kenya. Having been to Kenya before, but never for more than a two week annual holiday, this long stay was to help determine whether or not we could live in Kenya during our retirement years. In our opinion, Wageni is perfect. We discovered it while searching the internet and we have not been disappointed in our choice. We just loved the photographs of the cottage, the views and the grounds but they do not do this place justice. As soon as we arrived we thought, 'wow', what a place! Stunning surroundings and breath-taking views. Wageni itself is very clean, airy, spacious and well furnished. For us as a couple it was perfect and provided all that we needed including a well equipped kitchen/diner, a large washroom with flush toilet, wash basin, very spacious shower and a permanent supply of hot and cold water. Our preferred 'dining room' was the elevated outside patio area with stunning views overlooking Lake Naivasha of which we never tired. Unless there was heavy rain, all of our meals were taken at the patio table under the shade of a huge parasol. Just splendid! The cottage, gardens and grounds are cleaned and maintained on a daily basis by two staff one of which speaks quite good English, prepares meals and does the laundry/ironing. Being keen outdoors people and great lovers of wildlife, this was definitely the place for us. The gardens and surrounding bush are full of birds and butterflies and there are nocturnal visitors such as buffalo, dik dik, jackal, water buck and zebra. There are many wonderful nearby places to visit such as Hell's Gate and Nakuru National Parks, Crater Lake Game Sanctuary and the Aberdares. Getting to Naivasha town is an easy, but steady, 40 minute drive, half on tarmac the rest on a typical dirt road. For the more adventurous Lake Baringo, Samburu and the Masai Mara beckon. And of course, for all those golf lovers out there, Wageni is less than a 10 minute drive from the beautiful Green Park Golf Resort. Here you can find facilities such as a swimming pool, tennis courts, nature walks and of course great food and drink in the lovely lounge bar and dining rooms. This is a great place to socialise and meet other holiday guests, residents and golf members. We were more than satisfied with our stay at Wageni and would not hesitate to recommend this property to our friends or family. Tom & Linda England.

Owner response: Tom and Linda, How kind! We are very pleased that you are enjoying your stay at Wageni. It is a heavenly place and difficult to describe to holidaymakers. It does have the WOW factor. We try very hard to give our guests the comforts we would enjoy if we stayed in the cottage. Kenya, The Great Rift Valley, Naivasha is a wonderful place with lots of fascinating sites and animals to marvel over: Wageni is almost as good as living on your very own private reserve, even the Hippos are resident close by. Crater Lake, or the Emerald Lake, as many call it because of its beautiful emerald colour, can arrange a local naturist/guide who will walk with you or take you on a boat trip for a very small fee. The knowledge this local guide has about wildlife, birds, flamingoes particularly and the Colubus monkeys that live there will astound you. It is well worth the climb down. There are quite a few steps but well worth it if only for the cold beer waiting for you on your arrival. It is always one of my first outings when we are there. The main roads are as good as in England. It is the road round the lake when the dry season appears that is always under pressure from the flower farms in the vicinity. Sorry about the fumbi (Dust) the rains should be with you next month and Green Park will live up to its name. Kind regards Chris & Tony

About the owner: Tony and Chris had a dream to own a little bit of Kenya. For those who know it, Kenya is part of 'Gods Country'. Tony was born in Tanzania and grew up in Kenya. He was a post grad at Nairobi University having graduated from Edinburgh. In his early days he was tutored by Lewis Leaky ( reputed to have discovered the 'missing link') in all things related to nature. Christine fell in love with the area at first sight. As an amatur architect she designed the property and had a passion for sundowner terraces and other 'hide away' huts. Christine transformed an ugly water tower into a beautiful, covered and comfortable view point which is great for parties. We both love Moyo and spend as much time as possible there. Sadly this is only, at best two months a year.
Why the Owner Chose Nairobi:
The great thing about Moyo is the fact that you are surrounded by 'Africa'. It's fun hearing the night sounds including Hyena, Zebra, Buffalo and sometimes Leopard ! Nightime bird sounds include Nightjar, Flamingo flying in their thousands to feed and the odd eagle owl -- lets not forget the night chorus of crickets and frogs; matched only by the fantastic dawn chorus. We spend hours relaxing on the balcony identifying the hundreds of species of birds that visit our bird feeding areas and come to drink or bathe in the bird bath. Within less than half an hour we have a game sanctuary where you can safely walk with the plain game or picnic amongst the herds of plains game, come back home to a meal cooked by the staff and enjoy a beer in one of the six sundowner terraces. The only thing that disturbs the quiet are the sounds of nature.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Whilst there are over sixty properties in the bush at Green Park; when we sit on the veranda you can't see another house and yet we have five immediate neighbours ---the nearest one being five hundred yards away. It is simply Paradise.
