Why the Owner Chose Ouray
I enjoy the hiking, backcountry skiing, rock climbing and ice climbing around Ouray. Quite a few of my friends have migrated here from Boulder, and I've been thinking that the San Juans would be a good place to retire- or maybe just work a little less!

We are a group of 8 hikers (seniors) who came up here to hike with our club. The house was all it is advertised to be. The kitchen was well stocked. Suggestions: replace frying pans. The glasses and mugs were not really clean, but we ran them through the dishwasher. The basement is not as nice as the main level, but satisfactory. The picture window in the living room is like a framed picture and we never got tired of that beautiful view. We would come back and will miss Ouray.

The house is super cozy and spacious. It's a short drive from town, but you wouldn't be able to find such a great house in Ouray -- especially for the price. We'll be heading back there as much as we can... We wish we could live there, actually!

We stayed at this place with three other couples in June during a hot week. It was absolutely wonderful. The house is spacious, well maintained and works exceptionally well for a large group of people. We loved gathering around the huge dining table and sitting out on the porch talking and looking at the view for hours. The kitchen is large and bright and has all the amenities for several cooks to operate. The living room has lots of light, space, good seating areas and incomparable views. We loved the artwork on the walls as well - a great place to gather and relax. The bedrooms are very comfortable, quiet and peaceful. Each has its own special view of mountains or the woods. Some open up to the deck which surrounds the front and side of the house. It is private, quiet, and perfect for a relaxing and beautiful vacation. Watching the moon rise over the mountains is unforgettable. We have stayed in many places, including mountain homes in Switzerland. But none was as comfortable, inviting and spacious as this one. With all the activities possible in Ouray one could easily stay here for two or three weeks. Hiking in the high mountains, swimming in the hot springs, climbing the challenging walls and peaks or descending into Box Canyon are just a few of the highlights. One can read, paint, play games endlessly. Then there is good dining and again just gazing at the gorgeous views from this house is incomparable.

We stayed in the house for 3 nights. It was very roomy and had amazing views. We loved to just sit on the deck and soak up the view. The dining table was perfect for all of us to sit at for breakfast. The house would be perfect if there was a nice fresh coat of paint on the walls (the walls were very scuffed up and looked somewhat dirty). The carpet was very dirty and the basement had a very musty smell. There was also water sitting in the crawl space. We probably would not stay at this house again but did enjoy our time while we were there.
Owner response:We ripped out the old carpet and installed hardwood floors and tile in the living room and kitchen, and repainted the common areas. What a difference it made! I didn't find anything wrong in the crawl space- maybe the sprinkler people spilled some water when they were working on the system. Thanks for your comments. It really helps to know what projects I should work on next!
