Enjoy the beautiful beaches and natural beauty of Kiawah Island, a beachside, marsh island just 30 minutes from downtown Charleston, South Carolina. Kiawah has received national recognition for its preservation of the natural beauty of this unique barrier island.
Kiawah is a unique beach experience. It is a 10-mile long barrier island that was developed to preserve its marsh environment in an eco-conscious way. There are a full 10 miles of beautiful beaches, but it is not very commercially developed, and has maintained its heavily wooded, natural marsh island feel. There are 20 miles of walking and biking trails, numerous marsh ponds and rivers with fishing and crabbing access, quiet neighborhood pools, as well as world-class golf and great tennis facilities.
Our house is in a quiet, wooded, area near the beginning of the island. It is a 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath cottage with a great room, full kitchen, screened porch and spacious deck. There is one queen beds, one double bed and a third bedroom with 2 twin beds. The house was recently renovated and has a full kitchen.
There is a charming marsh pond at the end of our cul-de-sac street and easy access to pool and beach (located just 400 yards from the beach). Full kitchen, great room, screened porch and deck. Amenities include neighborhood pool, tennis, championship golf, biking, walking trails, fishing, nature center with naturalist-led activities and nearby restaurants at the new Sanctuary luxury hotel.

We stayed at this sweet cottage in May, 2011 and found the cottage, the beach and the entire island just perfect for our family. The house is simple, comfortable and comes stocked with almost anything you can need. The beds are plush, the kitchen is spacious and we loved the choice to eat inside, on a screened in porch on the outside wrap-around porch. My kids LOVED discovering the book and toy closet (which meant we didn't have to pack any toys or books!). The walk to the beach around the marsh is short and pleasant, with plenty of wildlife sightings. And the beach is really spectacular. We enjoyed having chairs and umbrellas set up for us for the week which meant we didn't need to bring anything but sunscreen. The dolphin watching on the end of the island is a memory I'll cherish. All in all, this is a place we'd like to visit again and again, even at different times of the year to watch the island change. The owners were so helpful in our time leading up to the trip, answering any questions we had and sending lots of helpful hints about things to do and nearby attractions. We hope to back again soon!

We stayed here with our two children, and their grandparents, and had a lovely time. The cottage had everything we needed, was clean and cute. Had coffee in the morning on the screened-porch and enjoyed the deck outside among the treetops. We loved the location, just a short walk to the beach and to the neighborhood pool. We visited the Heron Park Nature Center by bike on the very easy paved trails, but if you've got really little ones riding and they don't like to ride far, you might drive over and just park there. It's just a minute or two by car, and had plenty of parking. We like the shady Sparrow Pond area and would stay there again. It's on the first part of the island as you drive on, it seemed relaxed and not crowded at all when we were there (1st week of June). The owner was great and sent us helpful info on groceries, places to eat, etc...Kiawah Island was absolutely wonderful. The beach was fabulous!
