Red House 4b/2b, Walk Downtown. Summer Weeks Are Going Fast!
Year Purchased: 1992
Why the Owner Chose Saugatuck
We've lived in Saugatuck full-time since 1991. We love the people here, the charming downtown, great shops and restaurants, and the breathtaking coastline. We love boating, Oval Beach, music in the park, and just taking in everything Saugatuck has to offer. We often go a whole weekend without getting in a car, since we can walk or bike wherever we need to go. Saugatuck can be what you want it to be: relaxing, friendly, laid-back; a party town; an mecca for the arts; a nature-lover's paradise; family-friendly and outdoorsy.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Renters tell us they love the convenient location (walk to town, but quiet)...the casual, comfortable feel of the house...enjoying coffee or cocktails on the front porch and the side patio...and the play area for kids. (The house sits on an oversized lot back from the street, making it safer for little ones.) Pet owners appreciate being able to bring their dogs (with permission).
Butler & Mason: the heart of downtown. Lots of unique shops up and down both streets, plus restaurants, ice cream shops, bars, and more.
The children's playground is the younger set's place to see and be seen...and a lifesaver for parents whose kids need to get their ya-yas out. Tennis court and basketball court, too!
The White House: Mason & Griffith; Toulouse: Mason St. Shops and restaurants up and down Culver Street.
Excellent coffee and exceptional (homemade) baked goods at Uncommon Grounds; Wally's, a local favorite, across the street. Landsharks-great clothes & shoes, on Butler & Hoffman.
Home of the Mason St. theater productions (throughout the summer); gallery exhibits; daytime programs for kids; and more!
The SCA parking lot is home to the Saugatuck Green Market, every Friday in the summer from (roughly) 9:00 - 2:00. Great food from local farmers!
Great shopping in downtown Douglas. Don't miss Everyday People Cafe (EPC) for exceptional food, great service, friendly atmosphere.
One of the best in the country, according to biased locals, MTV, Conde Naste, and others! White-sand beach...concession stand...restrooms...
Owner's Map of Saugatuck
Hi, we're Andrew & Kate. We moved to Saugatuck for work in 1991, fell in love with the town, and have lived here full-time ever since. We bought the Red House in 1992 and lived there until 2006, spending the first five years on major renovations. When we moved (a few blocks away)in 2006 we couldn't give up the house, so now it's a vacation rental! We have one son, who attends the local elementary school.

Old Girls' Weekend
Guest: Michiganders
(Davisburg, MI)
Date of Stay: 05/19/11
Review Submitted: 05/27/11
We were looking for a nice place to stay that would give us each (3) a comfortable room to ourselves as well as plenty of community space. It had to be within walking distance to downtown Saugatuck, but not right in the middle of the hussle and bustle. The Red House was perfect. It was in a pretty little neighborhood where every house was different and all the yards were bursting with greenery. There was no ostentation, just breezy comfort with a mixture of old and new. The owner was friendly. Everything was clean (the sheets smelled great!) and everything we needed was at our fingertips. All that and a reasonable rate, what more could we want? Would definitely go there again.
Owner response:I'm so glad you (young) girls enjoyed it. We love all of our "girls' weekend" ladies. Thanks so much for leaving a review!
Recommended for:Tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
