The Casa Aloes is a charming, furnished self catering cottage in the Quinta das Mil Flores in the centre of Portugal, w/ an organic garden, eco friendly, an orchard, pine woods & mountain view.
Escape to the Casa Aloes!! Bordering the Quinta das Mil Flores (a small residence of 2 hectares surrounded by fir trees, orchards & olive groves, on the edge of the small hamlet of Sobreiro on the green hills below the village of Pedrogao Grande, the Casa offers a pleasant balance between calm seclusion & easy access.
In the region of Leiria in the centre of Portugal, the Quinta is about 2 hours by car north-east of Lisbon & 2 hours south-east of Porto (1 hour south-east of Coimbra). Located almost in the exact geographic centre of Portugal, Pombal & Serta are close to the Quinta & it’s also easy to access the sites of Alcobaca, Batalha, the village & beach of Nazare, Obidos, Busaco, Tomar & Fatima, etc.
The design of the Quinta development is very ecologically orientated. According to the possibilities of each existing or future building, various techniques for ecological isolation, materials & natural energy resources are used: rooftop greening, solar panel, or geothermal power. Newly renovated, the Casa Aloes is designed for 4 persons, in 2 bedrooms w/ double beds, 1 in polychrome from the beginning of the 20th century, the other Louis XVI. There is a bathroom w/an old porcelain bathtub & a copper wash basin both have brass taps & a separate wc cubicle.
The house has a kitchenette-living room w/ TV (80 channels) Wi-Fi, built in oven, fridge, kitchen vitro-ceramic plates, sink, dishwasher, cupboards & microwave, electric kettle, toaster, glassware, cutlery for 12, kitchenware, saucepans, electrical heating system, Dreamland heated electrical mattresses, linen for the kitchen, beds & bathroom. The furniture is charming & eclectic, collected on my travels all over the world.
A washing machine & clothes dryer are also available in another building & the house has a garage.
CD's, cassettes, DVDs and books in French, English,& Portuguese are available for the pleasure of the guests.
The Casa is non smoking, but the guests can always go outside to the garden for a small smoke.
The Casa has a terrace & a small garden, and offers access to the neighbouring Pavillon de Poets Chinois as well as the garden of the Quinta with 1400+ species & recorded varieties of rare plants: gardens of rare organic vegetables, herbs, olive groves, orchards, gardens 'growing into' trees, shrubs & rare perennials, created w/the assistance of Alain Richert, landscaper & famous horticultural author.(In France, in our family estates, the Castle of Thoiry 78770 & the Castle of Colombier in Aveyron, 12330, the gardens which we have restored & created have received the label of 'Jardin Remarquable' (Remarkable Garden) from the French Ministry of Culture.
The Quinta is located 10 min by car from the beach of the dammed lake of the Zezere river & 30 min from the specially laid out river beach of Castanheira de Pera & the region is part of the tourist route of Xisto & offers many pretty routes for hiking and cycling. Pedrogao Grande, 10 min away, a covered tennis court, a fitness room, boutiques, cafés, banks, post office, 2 small supermarkets & a general daily market, hairdressers, restaurants church, etc. There is also a large market on Saturday mornings in the neighbouring village of Figueiro dos Vinhos.
For those who prefer to avoid shopping on their holidays, the hamlet of Sobreiro receives daily truck deliveries of bread & pastries & weekly deliveries of fish & meat vendors so you can forget shopping, relax, breathe in the perfumed scent of the pine trees, listen to the bird songs & watch the twirling butterflies.
