Spacious, terrific vacation home

Guest: Salish Sea (Pacific Northwest)
Date of Stay: 11/21/11 Review Submitted: 12/22/11

The gracious owners went far beyond what we would have expected to make our stay memorable. The marsh attracted all sorts of wildlife, and we watched ibis, herons, squirrels, and other animals. The home was very comfortably appointed, and furnished in an eclectic and fun manner. All sorts of services were just a short drive, but the setting was on a quiet street, and once inside, it felt worlds away, between the salt marsh and the great screened porch. Our family had a wonderful Thanksgiving there, and there was plenty of room for all of us! If we go go Savannah again, we'll definitely stay at the Whitfield House.

Perfect house for my needs, as I had a varitey of entertaining to do for my daughters graduation from SCAD, so all the students loved the decor, everywhere we looked we found a new treasure, the kitchen was amazing and fully stocked a cooks dream, lovely deck to enjoy the mornings and evenings. Plenty of rooms for everyone to find a place to sit and socialize. Many futons for sleeping downstairs and bedrooms comfortable and clean. Close to downtown, but quiet and safe neighborhood. You would need a car to get back and forth but convient to the Truman highway quick asscess. Owner was kind, and replied to all calls and came by to make sure everything was good. Will rent again and again as I have family in Savannah. Thanks Nancy

Great Vacation Again!

Guest: Martha (Richmond, VA)
Date of Stay: 05/18/11 Review Submitted: 06/04/11

My family just stayed at this lovely property for the second time, & it was just as great as we remembered. This cozy, well-furnished house has EVERYTHING a guest could want or need. All of the beds are comfortable with high quality linens. The kitchen is beautiful & well-stocked with utensils & pans. One of the most impressive aspects of this home is how spotlessly clean it is. We found every room to be delightful & great for lounging, reading or conversation. Once again, we did not want to leave when our week was up. We were puzzled to read the last guest review (did we stay in the same house?!) because we found Nancy to be friendly, reachable & a great hostess. As before, Sweet Potatoes & the Toucan Cafe had delicious food & great service. There is nothing "shabby" about this house. It is just as pretty as the pictures show. Be encouraged, Nancy. Your place is wonderful!

Very uncomfortable

Guest: Shilo (Maine)
Date of Stay: 05/07/11 Review Submitted: 05/24/11

The house has a wonderful eclectic feeling. But there is only one comfortable chair and the one comfortable couch is not in the same room as the TV. The best thing about the house was the view from the back porch and it was a wonderful place to have our coffee in the morning. It was hard to leave for the day. One of the major problems was the lighting. Many lights and lamps but too many don't work or there wasn't a plug anywhere in the neighborhood. The master bedroom seemed fine but as for the rest of the beds they were all futons downstairs that are hard as rocks. The 2nd bedroom was so small and there is no closet. The overhead light does not work. So go up and find a light that works while it is still light out. There is an armoire but it doesn't close if you hang anything up. Now to Nancy...she never replied to any emails I sent to her and I had some difficulty getting to talk to her on the phone. There is no contract or even acknowledgment for money sent. Once we were in Savannah she kept calling me at home. It never dawned on her to call the house we were staying in! Her restaurant Toucan is great. Overall the house is shabbier than the pictures show.

The Whitfield house was definately the place for all of us to gather for David & Jocelyn's wedding week. With friends and family coming from all over, it was nice to have a cental location with a large working kitchen and dinning room and a deck to enjoy your morning coffee while watching wildlife. Very relaxing and quiet location. You can not beat it. Great eats are found at Sweet Potatoes and Toucan!!!!

A great vacation at the Whitfield House!

Guest: Martha (Richmond, VA)
Date of Stay: 07/11/10 Review Submitted: 07/18/10

I just returned from a WONDERFUL vacation at the Whitfield House, & it could not have been more enjoyable. My mother, daughter & her friend & I stayed there for a week, & it was so relaxing. The house is absolutely beautiful & well-stocked. We didn't need anything. The beds are comfortable, the bathrooms & kitchen are first class & the outside is very peaceful. We felt so "at home" that it was very difficult to leave. Nancy & Steve are excellent hosts & make you feel special & welcome. The food at The Toucan Cafe & Sweet Potatoes is out of this world. I can't imagine going to Savannah & not staying at the Whitfield House. We'll be back again!

What a wonderful, relaxing, peaceful house to stay in. Nancy is an awesome hostess and made us feel right at home. Words fail me as I try to describe what an outstanding time I had while staying at the Whitfield house. This is the first time that I stayed in a place that felt just like home. Nancy had supplied the kitchen with all the pots and pans and dishes that you would ever need. The food at Toucan was outstanding. My only regret is that I ran out of vacation time and could not extend my vacation. I WILL BE BACK TO STAY AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

My family and I recently stayed in the Whitfield House for a long weekend and I must say it was absolutely wonderful. Steve and Nancy's attention to detail is amazing. If we thought of something we needed - it was there! The house is colorfully decorated and extremely comfortable. Every room invited you to explore and have fun! The dining experience at Toucan is fabulous! What wonderful food with exotic flavors! After a delicious meal at Sweet Potatoes, my family and I were asking, "Paula Who?" Whenever you come to Savannah, think Whitfield House!

Wow what a great place to stay. We were guests in this home for a week over the 4th of July. We would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting a well appointed, clean, convenient, comfortable place to stay in Savannah. You can't beat the beautiful and peaceful setting where wildlife abounds. Beware, it's hard to get up off the deck or covered porch each morning and get moving to see the sights because it is so relaxing! The owner Nancy, is more than hospitable, friendly and helpful. Her restaurants are the best places we ate in all of Savannah. Don't miss out on Toucan Cafe, fabulous food and service!

My son just got home after 15 months overseas in Iraq. We stayed here for 3 nights (July 17 thru July 20, 2008) The pictures on this website do not do this house justice. The house is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFULLY decorated on the inside. Love all the colors especially. You know how when you are on vacation and you get back home you say "There is no place like home" well in this case we did not say that. This home was so comfortable and well stocked! This house has personality PLUS! Did NOT want to leave. The children want to live there. They cried when we left. We appreciate everything Nancy and we will be back very soon. Also, thank you for Sweet Potatoes Restaurant - MUST TRY IT! Food is absolutely DELICIOUS! Everyone loved it better than Paula Deen's!

I rented this house for a week with my family (husband and 2 little girls) and my mother. We had never been to Savannah and this was the best place to be to experience all that Savannah has to offer. We were greated by the host and provided with great directions to the historic district. It is easy to get anywhere in the historic district and to the beach as well. The house was awesome! Comfortable beds with good linens. The kitchen was well stocked and the house is close to a variety of grocery stores. It was like being a guest in someone's home. The area the house is in is very nice. The marsh is full of wild life and my kids loved that. This is a great place to vacation!

My sisters and I spent five lovely days in this very charming house. It felt so much like "home" we hated to leave when out time was up. We found it well stocked with everything guests could possibly want or need, and loved the eclectic decor as well as the art work, many wonderful books available as well as electronic amenities. All appliances and bathroom fixtures tasteful and upscale. The location is especially convenient for shopping or visiting the historic "downtown" (we were there for the St. Patrick's Day celebrations) as we were only minutes from a large mall with transit to the Parade! I can only imagine how lovely the property must be when everything is in bloom. If we every get to Savannah again we would certainly try to book this home again.

What a wonderful place to relax and to use as a base to explore beautiful Savannah. It's such a great location - only 10 minutes from beautiful historic downtown Savannah and close to day trips such as Tybee Island and Hilton Head. The house itself is a wonderful place to relax after a day of sightseeing. There are so many comfortable and cozy places to sit and relax. There are also all of the comforts of home - from a beautiful and well stocked kitchen to delightfully decorated and comfortable upstairs bedrooms. You can lounge in the reading room or outside on the screened in porch and outside deck. The views of the salt marsh were great with the wonderful Egrets, Herons and Pelicans. Colorful and cozy with great decorating touches. We loved it here! The pictures hardly do this warm and wonderful place justice. Last we got a chance to meet the owner - Nancy - and her daughter and her puppy Chelsea collie. They were all as wonderful as her home. We got a chance to go to one of her family owned restaurants Toucan Cafe (no time to go to Sweet Potatoes) and you could see her inspired and colorful decorating in the restaurant. Food was absolutely terrific too. If you want to explore Savannah, we recommend this terrific home, esp if you want to avoid the parking and traffic downtown. Janet, Mimi (collie) and Scott Reinhardt
