Fantastic place. It was perfect for my wife and I. When we were there it was about 25 degrees cooler up in Kula then down at the beaches. Did not pack for that. LOl. Masako and Fred were great host. Regrets, Are stay was busy with a wedding so we did not get to visit wit our host at all. This is our fourth time to Maui. If you want to be away from the tourist traffic and enjoy some country living this is the place. All activities are within 30 minutes. Thank you again Masako, We will be coming back to see you.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

This was the perfect spot for the second half of our week in Maui. After a stay at a beach resort, we moved Upcountry to experience the rest of the island. This was a great spot, exactly as advertised and pictured. Our hosts were extremely helpful, friendly and accommodating. The only negative aspect of our stay was that we had all of our time planned for activities and did not get to spend time just talking and relaxing with Masako and Fred.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+.

If you are looking for a quiet, tasteful, immaculate, roomy, and simply delightful get-away on Maui with all the comforts of home, you've found it here. My husband and I were very impressed by the genuine warmth and hospitality of the hosts, Fred and Masako. They treated us like family and we found them absolutely delightful. They are so thoughtful about their guests' comfort and go out of their way to ensure your visit to Maui is the best it can possibly be. We enjoyed the cool mornings on the private back deck with our coffee. I even went out there in the middle of the night several times to enjoy the breathtaking starry sky that is so clear up on the mountain. The sights and sounds of nature in that lovely terraced backyard are so soothing...the soft bird calls in the morning make you relax completely. I never tired of watching that ethereal scene. We have been to Maui many times, but only drove through upcountry before. Staying there this time for six nights, we were able to truly experience how peaceful and unique this area is. I highly recommend this guest home to anyone because it is off the beaten path, yet you are able to very comfortably and quickly reach any other location on Maui. The value is unbeatable in dollars, but the true value is intangible--the amazing, welcoming aloha of the hosts. Mahalo, Fred and Masako, for sharing your enchanting home with us. Fond alohas to you now and always.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for such delightful review. When we hear nice comments like yours we feel like trying harder to be good host. You were most sincere, considerate and lively guests we enjoyed so much. What a nice way to live life meeting all these great people. Aloha ! masako & Fred

This place is such a wonderful property. The owner is fabulous and very welcoming. The fridge came preloaded with all the condiments you could want. The kitchen is fully functional. The place is so comfortable. You are way up and away from the hustle of the bigger towns, but you are close enough that you can get down to the airport in about 25 minutes. At 3500 feet, the air is cooler and drier than the coast. The house is beautiful. And the backyard is packed with birds. Birders take note: in the short time that we stayed there we saw Japanese White Eye, House Finch, House Sparrow, Java Finch, Gray Francolin, Ring Necked Pheasant, Amakihi, Maui creeper, Apapane, Spotted Dove, Zebra Dove, Common Myna, Northern Cardinal and Rock Dove. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

My husband and I absolutely loved this place and would stay here again in a heartbeat! Masako & Fred are wonderful hosts, always pleasant and accommodating. The guest room itself is spotless, has all the amenities of home, and is probably the most comfortable place I've ever stayed at away from home (that's saying a lot since I traveled for busness for about three month out of a year)! If you are planning to see the sunrise at Haleakala, this is a perfect place to stay at. The property itself is truly heavenly, and I can't praise it enough. We certainly hope to return some day!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

What a wonderful vacation spot away from the crowds! We enjoyed our elegant room with the private covered lanai overlooking the garden where we could see lots of birds, including quails. We had a great view of the coast from our front window. It is beautifully decorated, with lots of thought for what you might need. Fred and Masako our fantastic host and hostess, made us feel at home with their warm hospitality and friendliness. It is perfectly located, the drive up to Haleakala was about one hour, same to Wailea down in the coast, and about 40 min to Maalaea, where we boarded our boat to Mokolini. It is very accessible to the Hana Road. We want to come back and stay here again! Thank you so much, Masako and Fred!Recommended for: Romantic getaway.
Owner response: Yes, we responded to warm hearts instantly. What a pleasure to have guests like you. We had such a good time talking with you. I will remember to prepare the calamari next time you arrive here, shoo don't tell anyone ! Masako

Centrally located in Kula this house is a perfect base for a couple looking to get away from the Condo/Resort scene. We were just minutes from the road to the top of Haleakala and Kula is a great place to start your road trip to Hana. The owners were the perfect hosts. They respected our privacy when we needed it, and entertained us with great conversation on the patio as we watched the beautiful sunsets over the west Maui mountains. The room we were provided is spacious, well maintained, well equipped and just a fantastic value. The private patio was a sanctuary for us to relax and reflect on the day's activities. The shower was large...so nice that we now want to renovate our home in Texas with a similar shower. Heavenly Kulu will always be in our plans for future visits to Maui.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Yes, we are far above the ground yet close to everything including "heaven" ! When we sit down with guests and have good conversation, that is heaven to us. A name like yours inspires such imagination in us. We had a very good time with you. Thank you ! Masako

We stayed 3 nights at Heavenly Kula. These were probably the best 3 nights of our 3 weeks stay on Maui. This is at least the best room we rented. Clean, finely and tastely decorated and very well equipped. This charming place is half way between the beaches and Haleakala in a central location for visiting Maui. But best of all are the hosts : we had the sweetest welcome you can expect and caring (but discreet) hosts all along our stay. We couldn't ask for more at a price more than correct for Maui. We can't wait for our next visit !Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

We stayed at 3 VRBO’s on this trip, and Heavenly Kula was hands down the most relaxing, comfortable, budget friendly and best overall experience. The proprietors are incredible hosts that make you feel like family. They provide great advice for dining and entertainment (if you wanted to leave the premises). We loved watching Kahuna (the official Greeter cat) playing in the beautiful yard and sneaking up on the birds, though he never caught one while we were there. This is the perfect location for getting to the top of Haleakala, or driving the counterclockwise direction to Oheo Gulch (we did the latter). We spent our last 3 nights (5/20-5/23) of a 3 week multi island vacation here and it was a wonderful way to relax (actually a therapeutic experience). My one regret is that we didn’t stay here longer. I highly recommend staying here, as we will certainly be back! Thank you for such a great experience!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: What makes the place nice is all because of people like you. How we enjoy having such interesting, nice people sharing time with us here. Truly you bring world to us and we are very grateful. When guests enjoy the place we are most encouraged and inspired to do better !
