Loved the place; it was a unique destination. Four of us (two couples) made the drive from metropolitan Detroit. The Cross Village setting allowed us to easily make day trips throughout the northern Lower Peninsula each day of our stay. Legs Inn for dinner our first night; Harbor Springs one day; Mackinac Island and Mackinaw City another; rafting in Bear Lake on the Indian River (my personal favorite of the trip); Petoskey was also visited. The Cross Village Public Beach was beautiful, nearby -- and surprisingly empty. You'll get the run of the place, which is a real treat, if our experience was the norm. One book that was at the property covered a local story from the 1960s. We were enthralled by the story so much that we read it aloud as a group over the course of our stay. Many thanks to Sylvia Jania for her hospitality and for opening up this vacation property to us. We would highly recommend it. Don't expect to get strong or consistent cell phone reception, which should be looked at as a blessing, not a detraction! The string of five-star recommendations speaks for itself. Add ours to the pile. Thanks again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our three night stay at the chalet was exactly what we needed: a calm, quiet, and private retreat where the dog could romp and we could walk in the woods, sleep, and (sigh) get a little work done. We arrived late, after a difficult (heavy rain, fog) 4+ hour drive, and immediately melted into the toasty warmth and welcome Sylvia had prepared. The little things--coffee mugs that feel good in your hand, fluffy towels, excellent reading lights, comforters that comfort, and good pillows!--make the chalet especially wonderful. Very close to a great beach, even as the rain kept us mostly indoors; but colorful trees/leaves surrounding the chalet--a show of their own--were stunning. "Fruit of the forest" pie at Good Hart general store is to die for. Thank you, Sylvia. Very much.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

This was a truly wonderful experience. From the drive back off the main road to the chalet in the forest. We would surely consider returning in the future. We loved the cabin feel and charming decor. Just to relax on the back deck and feel totally private. Sylvia was wonderful and had flowers waiting for our 25th wedding anniversary. The photos were very precise and the chalet well groomed. We visited Leggs Inn and had a great Polish dinner. Went to St. Ignace and the UP for a motorcycle ride. It was a beautiful weekend and loved the wood stove. Our only regret was we were biking and unable to use the kitchen facilities. My only recommendation would be to bring your own movies .Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

I love this place. I've been coming here for years with friends and I recommend it very highly to anyone looking for peace and quiet in the woods and easy access to the unparalleled Lake Michigan beaches. Relax on the deck and watch chipmunks and woodpeckers. Walk to Lake Michigan and the famous historic Legs Inn. The Mackinac Bridge, Harbor Springs, and Petoskey are all an easy daytrip. Wilderness State Park offers excellent hiking and cross country skiing--and beaches--right near by.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We really enjoyed our stay at the A Frame. It was very clean, comfortable, and well maintained—a true Up North getaway. Although the setting is peaceful and quiet, restaurants and shopping are only minutes away. The deck, large yard, and fire pit are great additions to an already perfectly charming spot.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We love Cross Village and the beaches of Sturgeon Bay and Wilderness State Park. We return to this cottage yearly because we like how quiet and private the property is. The yard is spacious and we spend quite a bit of time at the picnic table and fire pit. The cottage is clean and cozy and very charming. It's the perfect respite for busy lives.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
