Rarely does your vacation exceed your expectations. This was one of those times. The villa was far more authentic, warm, and inviting than pictures can convey. It was beautifully appointed, well furnished, very comfortable, quite private and very secure. We enjoyed the villa so much, we made it a point to cook more often than expected. The hosts, Fabienne and Kelly, were very helpful, quite hospitable and knowledgeable, though they respected our privacy. A wine tour with Kelly is a must.. It was the best wine tasting experience that we have had the pleasure of enjoying - and wine tasting is always a favorite. Fantastic location with good access to so many fantastic points of interest, though a car is very helpful. We highly recommend staying at the villa.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

What a wonderful place to meet up with some friends and spend a week relaxing and exploring Provence. The quality of the Villa restoration is remarkable. When we arrived we discovered a completely modern home built in a 100 year old building. You can believe the pictures on the internet, the place is really that nice. We spent a week with friends visiting local markets, preparing meals and drinking wines recommended by Kelly. Kelly also led us on a wine tour where we were taught the proper methods for assessing wines and were shown how the grape is processed from vine to bottle. Although Villa Baccus is located about 3km from the walls of Avignon it was an easy, about 35 minutes, walk into town. There are local buses that can be used to get back up the hill if you don't feel like walking back to the Villa If you are looking for a place where you can relax, explore and need a little help with languages or local customs you could not find a better place. Our stay at Villa Baccus was wonderful. The house was more than we had imagined. Details of construction was magnificent. Kelly and Fabienne were so helpful with suggestions for shopping, eating, and wine consumption. I would not say that Avignon is easily acessiable by walking. This property is up some very steep hills and going into the city might be manageable, but going home would be difficult. We found that too challenging. It is well positioned for day trips to all of Provence, by car or train.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

Our family of four had a fabulous time in Avignon, but what made it extra special was staying at Villa Bacchus. Owner Fabienne M. was so gracious and helpful. Not only did she decorate the home with a beautfiul Christmas tree, she even rescued us when we got lost finding her place in Les Angles. Everything about the place is perfect. The kitchen is excellent for the family chef to whip up recipes using fresh ingredients from local markets. All in all, we highly recommend this location and will be back soon. Merci, Fabienne, for everything!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

This Villa is the whole package. It's location is perfect for touring the southern area and is close to avignon town center for evenings out. The villa has so many unique features, too many to tell but everytime you look around you see another story. The owners are amazing friendly warm and inviting just what you need to make a holiday a great holiday. We stayed only a week but would ahve been glad to stay a month. 4 year old son enjoyed the pool and doggie and asks all the time when we can go back and i wish i could say tomorrow. Highly highly recommend this location and of course the wine tour is a must. thanks again guys for making it a wonderful week that we will never forget.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

We just spent three lovely months at Villa Bacchus. The house is very beautifully restored and very comfortable. The kitchen is a pleasure to work in. The property is quiet and peaceful - surprising considering the density of the houses in the neighbourhood. We viewed other houses in the area that were larger, but chose this property because it had such a nice feeling and the owner was so lovely and helpful. The design of the house made it very comfortable for our family of four and I cannot overstate how lovely and helpful the owners were to us. Even though we were in Avignon to improve our French it was very helpful to have someone on hand who spoke English so well - and who was so willing to help if needed. The house is well located. It is a very short drive (of pleasant walk) to Avignon or Villeneuve des Avignon (where there is a most excellent market) and an interesting country road for longer walks. Even in three months we didn't get to half the villages or markets or monuments or hiking trails we would have liked to - all within easy driving distance. While we were at the property the owners planted an herb garden for our use. Their work never felt intrusive and they were very considerate of our privacy. We have rented houses on vacation for many years. This is probably the best house we have stayed in. We would highly recommend this property and the area. We will definitely return to Villa Bacchus.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

We rented the villa for 1 1/2 weeks and were so pleased the experience we would love to return again. We were greeted by a fire in the fire place with music on the stereo when we walked through the door. All of the amenities were there, nothing was missing. Our host, gave us hints as to where we could find everything both in the house and in town. Avingon is a wonderful town, with a fantastic market and great vineyards all over. We took our children and their significant others and we had a terrific time. It is a short drive to so many interesting sights, history, people, everything. I can't tell you how much we enjoyed the villa and Avignon. I fell in love with both.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

About the owner: Bonjour! we are a French/American family, My husband Kelly is from Nevada and I am born and raised in Avignon. After living in many places around the world, we came back to Provence in 1997 and decided that it was definitly our favorite life style and place. So it was easy to buy a beautiful 'fixer-upper' villa in the middle of the pine trees, and to start raising our family. We now have Thalia 6 years old, Kassidy 12, and Maeva 13. We take great pride in having a beautiful place for our guest, great decoration, history you can see (the villa is 100 years old)with all the modern facilitys to make the best vacation. If you don't speak french, we are here to help you.We love food and wine, (my husband is a wine specialist and makes memorable wine tour in the Rhône region)and we can help you for that too. Merci et bonne journée!
Why the Owner Chose Avignon:
The villa Bacchus was for sale in 2000 right next to our personal villa. It was old (100 years old)and a very small typical provençal house. The fact that my husband and I studied architecture probably helped us a lot to feel like we could do it again, but this time better than our own house! My husband and I (yes I did all the tiles, and painted) worked on it for 3 years non stop, with very little help, after our part time jobs.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
After the villa was done, we build a pool in the middle of the land, where the old separation wall use to be. We rent this villa all year around, and when we show it it to our new guest, we can help it to be so proud! It is more beautiful than our own villa, and our kids are asking to swich house all the time! The location is perfect and it is very peaceful. We used all noble material (stone, wood, terra cota)to build the villa and they are only getting better with time...it is truelly a timeless beautiful provencal villa!
