Hula Hideaway is a special vacation rental located in the small quaint valley of Moloaa, Kauai. It is perched above a lush tropical garden with ocean and mountain views. The producers of Gilligan's Island thought so highly of this location they filmed the pilot here. And just like the show... this beach still feels like a deserted island. Hula Hideaway is located across the stream from the beach and beach access is a one minute walk. Many a days one can find themselves completely alone on this magical beach. If you love to snorkel this is one of the gem ocean locations on Kauai.
Hula Hideaway offers incredible ocean and mountain views, in a remarkably private setting. It is designed with hardwood floors, slate tile entry and bath, walls of windows for a nearly 360 degree view. The 'Hideaway' has a king bed upstairs and a queen bed and queen sleeper sofa downstairs in its own separate studio, both up and down bedrooms have a complete bathroom attached. Imagine watching the sunrise from the comforts of your bed and watching the sun setting over the majestic mountain vista while dining on either the ocean or mountain view decks.
Hula Hideaway is accessed by a private bridge across the Moloaa Stream. The house is situated in 'the' ideal location in Moloaa Bay. It is not right on the beach, where you are constantly baraged with wind and waves. It is far enough away to feel the peace yet close enough to hear and smell it. The house is nestled amongst a tropical landscape complete with coconut, banana, avocado, mango, papaya, plumeria, and a variety of citrus and exotic flowers, WHICH YOU ARE WELCOME TO PICK. Moloaa Beach is 100 yds. away and its privacy makes it feel like the old days of Hawaii....On most days of the year it is perfect for swimming, snorkeling or just strolling the beach. It really is a piece of paradise.
If you like walking, a 20 minute stroll up the road towards the main highway takes you to Moloaa Fruit Stand, where you can get coffee, smoothies , fruit , breakfast and lunch, a great early morning walk... The other direction , north on the beach , brings you to the end of the beach where you can take the trail up along the cliffs and watch Albatross & Frigate birds, turtles and whales during season. (Dec.-April) Moloaa Bay is truly a 'special' place to spend your vacation and Hula Hideaway is a special place to spend it in... I hope you discover what I have, and come and see and experience it for yourselves...
Aloha Richard
p.s. a lot of people ask if this is 2 separate houses? the answer is no, if you are 2 people renting the house the whole house is yours, if your are 4 the same applies. Also, please check our calendar before your inquiry, it is always up to date.....

Just returned from spending 2 weeks at the Hula Hideaway. The location was pretty much as advertised, though it was a few more than 100 steps to the beach, but still a very short stroll. The beach at Moloaa Bay was not as private as expected, but still not even close to being crowded. Pictures of this home were accurate and no complaints working with the owner. The property was very clean and the grounds were beautiful and well-maintained. We were fortunate that there were only 2 of us staying, as there was a shortage of some kitchen amenities. We really enjoyed Kauai. Some suggestions for staying on the North side of the Island: Walmart and Costco in Lihue and the Safeway in Kapaa before heading to the house. Best prices on the Island for fresh fish was Fish Express across from the Walmart in Lihue. Get there early! Restaurants Verde and Shrimp Station in Kapaa great. Traffic through Kapaa was crazy and we couldn't get a handle on what time it would be bad, but delays could be up to 45 minutes Moloaa Bay is a quiet little place, which is what we were looking for. Perfect place to do a lot of relaxing and the entire Island has many great sites to see.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind words about Moloaa. Yes at times Kapaa is crazy traffic and for o apparent reason. There is a bypass road just before Kapaa town on the right side after the Fire Station that takes you pass a lot of the Kapaa traffic. When I am there I stick to Kilauea ,10 minutes north, 4 or 5 great restaurants. More plates have been purchased for the kitchen, things get broken and not reported. thank you for the update. Aloha Richard

Aloha, Spirit-Recharging-Provider !!! My gratitude visit may be tardy, tho the memories are fore-front present. The first morning, upon opening my eyes, seeing the glow of the new sunrise, hearing the music of the 'big blue' from my pillow and feeling the Love of my life beside me, ~ this nourishing piece of peace will never leave me,,,God willing. The word 'Thank you' pales,,,,but Thank you, Richard. Our journey was perfect, in all ways. Peace & Bliss to you. a hui hou KarylAnn & MichaelRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I stayed at the lovely Hula Hideaway for a week in June and hope to return some day! The Hula Hideaway is well furnished and we were particularly spoiled by the washer and dryer. The views from the living area are fantastic, especially at sunrise. The sound of the waves and ocean breeze are soothing to sleep to and so relaxing. The grounds are beautiful too. It's a little piece of paradise that is yours for a short period of time. The location was perfect, especially for doing things on the North and South shore. Moloaa Bay is beautiful and has excellent snorkeling on the right side. We even saw a monk seal. The fruit stand 2 miles away has fantastic fish tacos, fruit, and smoothies. I cannot say enough good things about Hula Hideaway, the owner (we had water trouble one day and by calling the local number left for any trouble, it was fixed immediately), and it's location. It's just perfect. If you stay here, the only regret you may have is not staying longer!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

After arriving on Kauai late in the evening, our arrival at the Hula Hideaway was a great place to start. We were able to relax after a long day of travel and get some rest to begin a long awaited vacation. The pictures of the house are accurate and the king bed just what the the doctor ordered. The kids made themselves at home in the downstairs studio. Upon the sun rising we were greeted by all the roosters and chickens (Don't plan on sleeping in, but who wants to). Moola Bay was beautiful and although the east winds blew most of our stay making the bay pretty rough, we were able to get some swimming in on the far left of the beach and lots of sun shine. The Hula Hideaway is a great location for travel north or south with everything in between. Hanalei Bay, Princeville Ranch Adventures, Catamaran Kahuna, Queens Bath, Plantation in Kupolo and the Fish Market in Kilauea, Waimea Canyon all great choices. Although, the phones or internet were not working upon our arrival, Shirlet was pretting quick with getting the problem fixed. The fruit stand approx. 2 miles down the road provided us with all the fruit we needed for our morning fruit smoothies. The property was clean and the yard was well maintained with a great view of the ocean, the waves put us to sleep every night with the ocean breeze through the open windows.....Thanks for sharing your home.........Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We had the most wonderful stay at the Hula Hideaway. It is so nice to see and hear the ocean every night over the sound of the roosters and frogs! The layout is perfect for two couples, private yet nice to be able to eat and play together. Private and quiet, it was truly paradise... THANK YOU!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

We did a lot of research before we left for this trip and saw all the good reviews for this place. We were not disappointed! We felt right at home right away. It is very comfortable and everyone loved the feeling of a luxury treehouse! We have two teenage boys so the downstairs was great for them and they loved it. At night we had the privacy of the upstairs all to ourselves. Super location with the beach right there and about halfway between the airport and Princeville. The snorkeling on the far left side is awesome. Lots of tropical fish! Don't worry about packing or renting snorkel gear...all you need is already at the house for you to use! The whole house was so well stocked. We stopped at the store on the way to house and bought some groceries and of course forgot lots of things. Got to the house and there was everything we needed already there! Speaking of shopping.....stop at Safeway and take a few minutes to get one of their loyalty cards and prices are not much more than the mainland. Be sure and read the note on fridge. Everything you need to know is right there. Don't forget to feed Ginger! (like she would let you!) She will find you every evening and every morning and let you know when it is time to eat. I am a dog person myself but she was a cool cat. She definitely took care of my "pet fix" while I was missing my dog back home. The roosters never bothered us. We have chickens at home and I guess we were used to them. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained (I do landscape maintenance) and we enjoyed the coconuts and papaya as well as all the beautiful flowers. This is my first time to ever review a place we stayed at and I just had to write because it was so nice and wanted to let others know. Enjoy your stay! Thanks Richard for sharing your beautiful home.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you so much for the kind words. As I have said to many, Hula Hideaway and Moloaa Bay are truly gems in a shrinking world.....

Where to start? Rent this home! You won't be sorry. It sits less than 100 yards from the beach at Moloaa Bay. This beach is secluded, beautiful and great for swimming. If you want large crowds this is not for you. If you like a beach where you are likely to see 3-5 people on the entire beach at any given time this is your place. We went with a 14 and 10 year old and they had no problem with the water. Some local people advised us where the swimming was safest (to the far corners of each side). Google Moloaa Bay images and they are right on point as to what it looks like. In terms of the accuracy of the photos the same can be said for the VRBO photos of this home. They tell it like it is which as most of you know is not always the case. The home is about a mile or more off the main road. It is about 4 miles or so north of Kapaa and about 14-15 miles from Hanelei. We loved the central location. The upstairs has everything a family of four or more could need. Very clean, suprisingly very cool and comfortable at night, a washer and dryer and lovely outside shower. The grounds are very well maintained with flora and fauna in abundance. Good decks with ocean veiws. (Yes, you are close enough to hear the ocean especially at night). Comfortable beds and very hungry cat. If they could somehow train the cat to chase off the roosters she would be perfect. Wake up call is at 5:00 a.m. when the roosters begin crowing but I imagine that is the same in most rental homes away from the large hotels and condo complexes. No big deal really. The downstairs is also very clean and accomodating. Rent this home. You wont' be sorry and for the price it will truly be the least expensive thing you do on your trip.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Thanks Rod for the kind words. I have tried to get ''Ginger'' to get the roosters, alas to no avail...

We just returned from a 10 day stay at this wonderful property! I did not want to leave. It has windows all around which feels like you are in a private tree house. The yard is big, tropical and well maintained. The downstairs was perfect for our 16 yr. old son and his friend to sleep and relax. It is a 2 min. walk to a big, beautiful and virtually deserted beach. On the busiest day we counted 8 other people! The property is bit of a drive, maybe 10 minutes, from any "town". We loved that feeling of being separated and somewhat "local". Richard, the owner, was immediate and helpful in all correspondence. There is an outdoor shower, with hot water, that is wonderful anytime. Not just after the beach! The town of Hanalei is great, as is the entire North Shore. There are so many beautiful beaches and hikes to do. Some wonderful shops and restaurants nearby as well. We plan on returning next year...for two weeks!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

We were 2 couples renting the main upstairs and the studio down below and it worked out pretty good - we each had our own space and then we would meet upstairs for afternoon cocktails on the deck and then dinner. The house had all the amenities that you would need, and the garden and views are beautiful! The location is great - Moloaa Beach is a great place to spend the day...very quiet...even saw turtles and monk seals having their naps on the beach. It's also a good base to explore the beaches on the Northern and Eastern Shores, and there are some good hikes as well that are only a short drive away. Thankfully the Tsunami (that devestated Japan) ended up only being a small wave in Moloaa - had to evacuate the area - but no damage - I can see why all the houses in the area are built on stilts! Mahalo!!! We hope to return..one day! p.s. we even enjoyed the morning visits from Ginger the Cat demanding to be fed!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.
