Sugar Sand Beach Retreat on Grand Traverse Bay

An amazing family vacation

We shared this home with close family friends and I have to admit it was one of the best vacations our family has had. It is a comfortable home with everything you need for a wonderful beach get-away. Secluded private beach, wonderful amenities, close to Traverse and Charlevoix for shopping and sight-seeing. We even did a day trip to Mackinac. If you run, the mornings were great for runs along the beach. The best part was that our kids loved it. Would definitely come back again. What you see is what you get plus more.

We found the home to be very well equipped and clean. It has beautiful views and a great beach. We enjoyed the secluded feeling we got from the homes setting. We also found the location between cities nice. We could go north or south to shop and eat There are many steps to get to the beach and spiral steps in the home leading to the basement, so make sure you are able to handle them. We really recommend running the de-hummidifier during your stay!

Hello, We do recommend this property for renting. We have enjoyed renting this home for three years and look forward to our time spent there every summer. The area is very residential, I don't believe there are a of rentals. We are very familiar with the area and have looked at many properties to rent on East Bay / Lake Michigan for the last 10 years. The area is secluded and located between Elk Rapids and Charlevoix. There is a small grocer located close to the cottage (within a mile or 2), but if you want to go out to eat or to a larger grocery store you do have to travel approx. 8-10 miles. The beach is swimmable and is the nicest beach in this area. There are rocks, but not enough to keep you from swimming, there’s a small area of rocks (great place to search for Petoskey stones and other fossils) where the waves crash – other than that small area, the beach is very sandy. The photos that I'm attaching will show you what I'm describing. The water level allows you to walk out for a distance. There are large boulders (about three) out in the water that our nephews (12 and 17) like to play on. Depending on the direction of the wind the lake might be calm or have waves. If you find woodland areas, the sound of waves and colorful sunsets relaxing, you will love this property. The road that leads off 31 to the cottage is paved and less traveled. We ride bikes and take walks every day. There’s a county park near by (maybe a mile) with a campground and trails. There’s also a nature preserve close by. We often see many deer/wildlife on our rides and walks. This is a family house and it feels like “home”. I think the house will be plenty big for two families with 4 little boys. Note, there are a lot of steps to get down to the beach. And there is a spiral staircase in the house - maybe hard for the younger boys to go down on their own.

Sugar Sand Beach Retreat on Grand Traverse Bay

one of the most beautiful settings on Lake Michigan

This home was as advertised!!!!The photos did not do the beach or sunsets justice!!We had wonderful weather, and no bugs!!!The home has many outside lounge chairs both up on the decks and down at the beach. The only concern was the shower water pressure and the odor of the water---so we did enjoy the big bath tub--Lake Michigan.. We did find the Torch Lake Market to have wonderful meat, fine wine and cheese-also a treat for breakfast--you can also walk to this gem---The park in Elk Rapids is also a real find. We cannot wait to return !!!!!
