Fawn Lake Hideaway is a unique, lakefront home offering privacy with all the comforts of home. There are two bedrooms on the upper floor, a full bathroom, kitchen and dining area and a living room. On the lower, walk-out level is the third bedroom, another full bathroom, a family room, and the laundry area.
On each of the floors overlooking the water are screened porches. There is also a large deck with a grill and patio furniture, which overlooks the lake. This floor plan offers privacy for the families vacationing together or gives the children a little space of their own.Outside is a fire pit for your evening enjoyment.
We are located on a "no wake" lake where the fishing is great. There is another lake about 100 yards away which also is a fine fishing lake. There is a row boat tied to your own private dock plus two kayaks for your personal use. We also have a boat on the nearby lake that you can use.
We have ten acres of woods plus we are adjacent to miles of state land, so the hiking and mountain biking possibilities are endless. About six miles away you will find the roughly 18 mile long Bearskin rail to trail area which is made of crushed stone and is an excellent place to walk or bike and enjoy nature. Relax at night with a nice fire in our firepit.
You can swim right in front of the cabin, where there is a sandy shore. You also have the option to use a large sandy beach area , which is shared with two small cabins belonging to our family. The lake bottom there is firm and has a gentle slope. There are two swim rafts, one in close to shore for the little kids and one in deeper water for the swimmers.

Misleading description, but beautiful quiet lake

Upon arrival we felt that the description of this cabin was a bit misleading. It says you can swim right in front of the cabin. In fact you have to walk down a level and then down 40 stairs to get to the water, which is weedy, rocky and not a good area for swimming at all. The sand beach across the lake was beautiful and perfect for swimming, and the area around the cabin is great with lots to see and do. Loved listening to the loons and frogs every night, and seeing all the wildlife. Also in the description I just noticed that it says there is a lake 100 yards away that we could use. Where was that? It would have been nice if there was information at the cabin about this lake access; we would have liked to have checked it out and fished on it. I certainly didn't notice one "100 yards" away. Also checking out at 9am on Saturday was difficult, especially since we were expected to start two loads of laundry, sweep, pack up and completely leave by then. And when we checked in it wasn't immaculate, with cobwebs and dust in corners. Also it's really not ideal for really small kids as the stairs are steep inside and out and the beach is too far of a walk for them. I got a lot of exercise carrying my 2-year-old around, up, and down.. The cabin itself was great and we enjoyed our vacation. We just felt a bit mislead by the description and felt we could have been treated better.
Owner response:Over our 10 years of operation this was our 1st mixed review and we take it seriously. We appreciate the time this lady took to express some concerns as that is how we improve. We prominently display the name and phone number of our resident manager who can answer questions and provide information and would hope our guests would use it to make their stay with us perfect. Most of our guests (we have annually about 60% repeat visits) praise the cleanliness but we will make sure those standards are consistently met. The second lake is indeed there, less than 100 yards from the cabin and we can provide an aerial photo to orient our guests but it is very easy to find. The steps to the lake are a fact caused by the topography and we usually will caution guests with young kids or mobility problems that they could pose a challenge. It is true that the swimming on front of the house is not nearly as good as at the sand beach and we are working on that but it is a slow process compounded by recent lake level flucuations. We do ask that one load of sheets be started but we have a cleaning crew that does the rest. We have a guest log and try to learn from each comment. We offer privacy and recreation in a family friendly environment and we do our best to make our guests stay exceed their expectations. We don't understand the comment 'could have been treated better' when we weren't given the chance to help and regret that this family didn't have the experience they could have. For us the 3 stars out of 5 rating is not up to our own standards.
