Enchanting Catskills Mountain Lake House
- Minimum stay:2-7 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This enchanting Catskill Mountain lake front house which is a stones throw from the lake is a 'home away from home'. Many windows and glass doors allow for an 'inside outside' experience with a comfortable deck overlooking the lake. Take a canoe ride or walk on the iced lake January through early March. Enjoy the peace and quiet of a 50 acre lake.
The house itself is on a small road; there is a neighboring house on one side separated by trees and foliage, with forest and lake on the other three sides. There are two bedrooms and one bath. A spiral staircase leads to the upstairs bedroom with a queensize futon bed, skylights, sleep sofa and balcony. One bedroom is downstairs with a queensize bed and you awaken looking at the lake. The living room has cathedral ceilings, glass exposures to the lakeside with a fully furnished kitchen. Wood-burning stove, in addition to the oil furnace, makes it very cozy on chilly days. There is original artwork, rugs, etc. which adds to the charm of our house. All cotton linens, with flannel for cooler weather and down comforters.
Many all season activities are close by, some within minutes, others within a 30 to 45 minute drive. For example, hanggliding, gliding, hiking, rockclimbing, The ski resorts of Hunter, Windham and Belleayre are about an hour north. A smaller ski resort, Holiday Mountain (in Monticello) is 35 to 40 minutes drive.
Come and rejuvenate in a 'retreat' from worldly cares! Roam the country-side or bring books and good food and observe the lake with all it's many moods. Just recline on a sofa and look out. Down the 'hill' (10 minutes) in tiny Ellenville, you'll find grocery stores and a couple of restaurants - an excellent one where reservations are recommended. There are also pizza, deli and diners available.
Two hours from New York City. Forty-five minutes from Kingston, New Paltz, Woodstock, Middletown, Monticello.

My wife and I decided to stay at this wonderful lake house for the coldest week in January, where we were treated to a frozen lakeside winter hideaway with character, charm and comfort. If you have never spent an afternoon walking on a pristine Catskill lake, you are truly missing out. The cast iron wood-burning fireplace kept the warmth flowing while we basked in the heavenly surroundings day and night. The kitchen was fully outfitted and felt like a real home. The owners Carroll and John are gracious, wonderful and inspiring people who have great knowledge of the area and are nearby to ensure a perfect stay.Did you find this review helpful? The house was gorgeous, with a working wood burning stove and a view of the lake. The layout afforded privacy when needed, with a large dining area for group activities. The outdoors offered an uninterupted vista of the lake (which unfortunatly wasn't frozen enough for skating). Overall we had a most enjoyable stay and recommend the place wholeheartedly.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is a fantastic little house. We visited with our black lab and had a wonderful time. The house is very well taken care of, and has everything you could possibly need. The small lake is beautiful and great fun to paddle around on. The yard is quite large and offers incredible views. Great very quiet roads in the area for running and cycling. Easy access to the Catskills with many great hikes. If you feel like going out for dinner, definitely check out Aroma Thyme Bistro.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

First let me say how wonderful it is to deal with the owner Carroll. She will answer any questions you have with kindness and patience. We spent 5 amazing nights in this paradise and I wished it was longer!! The pictures don't begin to show the beauty of this home and location. It is so peaceful and quiet and lovely. The energy at this home is so comfortable, you truly feel like it is a home away from home. The area is beautiful. You are close to so many great places. I highly recommend Sam's Point Preserve!! What an incredible hike we took to the waterfall. We went to New Paltz and Lake Minnewaska as well. We did our grocery shopping at Peter's market. Great store!!! We had fun driving around in all the quaint towns and stores. We had a wonderful time with the canoe. The lake is so beautiful and I took so many pictures. I truly can't say enough about this home. For an old cat lady like me another treat at this house is 2 very friendly visiting cats . I had a lot of fun wth them early in the morning as I drank my coffee on the lovely deck. We loved it so much we plan to return as soon as we can. Was a truly peace filled vacation that we could do again and again. I can only imagine how beautiful it must be here in the fall as well. Thank you Carroll for sharing this lovely home!! We will be back : )Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

A friend and I stayed this past weekend for a very lovely weekend. The house is so well stocked, you'll think you're staying at a friend's. We especially loved the little notes that added insight into local restaurants and explained quickly how to use the washer/dryer (not that we used it, but it showed the attention to detail that we appreciated). The pictures included with the property description are completely accurate. If they look good to you, the reality will as well.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I actually couldn't wait till I got home to review. Am on my second of two weekend days here, feet up on the Adirondack chair, under the crisp September sun, watching the lake and listening to the windchimes. Came here to interrupt the usual (NY) city chaos, amplified by having to get ready for a two-month business trip out of the country, on which I leave several days after I get back from here. What a balm it has been. The first night I slept till noon, today till 11. Unheard-of at home. It's dead-quiet, and so lovely. Carroll was exceedingly gracious and flexible in the lead-up; I must have bombarded her with a hundred questions and contingencies over the course of a dozen e-mails before I came. I've been noticeably calmer since I got here :) Couldn't recommend this place more heartily. Make sure to go to Barthel's for the fruits and veggies, the European deli for a nice Polish meal, and Aroma Thyme Bistro for a gourmet dinner.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, age 55+.

This place is PARADISE. The house is even more beautiful than the pictures. It is so clean, so well.maintained and tastefully decorated! The views are stunning, you can see the lake in the forest from every single corner of the house, even from your bed! Despite the bad weather -it rained non stop...agrrr...-we had a blast: yeap, the place is that great, that special. Carroll, the owner, was very helpful and accommodating, and she even gave us a call to make sure everything was alright. She was very sweet and we appreciated that. I would recommend this place without any doubt. It is just impossible not to love it! THANKS A LOT, Carroll!! Owner response: Cristina, Thanks so much. It was lovely having you and your family here. You've just described our "mission" statement !

4 friends and I came to this lovely home for a weekend getaway from the city. The area house is just like the pictures: very pretty with fantastic views of the lake. The pictures do not do the humongous front lawn justice. Lots of very nice touches: fresh picked flowers on the table upon arrival, wrapped soaps in the bathroom, plenty of clean towels, sheets, pillows. Overall a great gem in the country.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, girls getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.

My mother and I were looking for a quiet yet scenic getaway for some much needed peace and relaxation. Carroll's home exceeded our expectations, we stayed there over both the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and the atmosphere provided just what we were in search of. The views of the lake from the house are stunning and the surroundings absolutely serene! The house is well kept and truly charming, very cozy. If you are in search of quiet time in nature with a beautiful lake to look out over, this is the place for you. Carroll was very easy to deal with and went out of her way to assist me with some specific requests/town information. I will be staying there again.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, girls getaway, age 55+.

Why the Owner Chose Ellenville:
My husband and I are originally from the South and having grown up on water, we wanted a property with water !
The Unique Benefits at this House:
It's such fun to watch for the various wildlife - ducks, geese, herons, turtles, frogs, deer, raccoons, skunks... Each season brings Bliss ! The Spring is a miracle of growth after the ravages of winter, summer is oh so wonderfully warm and sometimes even hot ! , the Fall is spectacular with all manner of color of leaves, etc. and the winter is 'Terrible Beauty' ... the snows and ice come and you watch it all happen and stoke the wood burning stove/ cook favorite foods and curl up being oh so cozy. But ... don't get me started about the year-round beauty !
