Are you seeking a grand, oceanfront cottage near Acadia National Park nestled in the forest? Each morning, be one of the first in the nation to watch the beautiful sunrise over idyllic Frenchman’s Bay. Walk out from the house and head out onto the water to your boat from its deep water dock (5/2014 Dock temporarily inaccessible) or take the stairs down to the gravel beach to swim or launch your sea kayak or canoe. You can fish in the ocean without a license from the dock or try your hand at trapping lobster.
RENTAL AVAILABILITY This oceanfront cottage rents April through October with weekly rental from June 15th through September 30th and short-term stays (minimum of two nights/three days) outside of those dates making it ideal for a long weekend getaway! The cottage is less than ten minutes by car from Bar Harbor airport and one hour from Bangor, Maine.
LOCATION ADVANTAGES/RECREATION The cottage is two miles from the Hull’s Cove Visitor Center, which is the north entrance to Acadia National Park, where you can spend your day hiking or go kayaking on the pristine waters surrounding Mount Desert Island. Drive there, bike there or take the bus with your bike, which can be loaded. Ranger programs, hiking on graded paths up the mountain or biking or walking on the carriage trails (no cars) are fun things to do. You can swim in a lake with a lifeguard or dare the 'Ledges' and enter Echo Lake by the cliff.
You can get a license and fish on Hamilton Pond which is within walking distance. If you are familiar with kayaks, paddle across the way to the MDI Biolab and float through the stone arch at high tide, or paddle further around the point and picnic in the 'Ovens' which are shallow waterside caves w/ pebble beach.
If not everyone has a car, it is an easy twenty minute walk (3/4 mile) to the free ‘Island Explorer’ shuttle, which stops at the Bar Harbor Camp Ground during peak season (consult their website for schedule). The shuttle goes into town and covers most of the island taking you on a scenic ride of the island’s beaches, coves, and more.
Down the road is Pirate's Cove mini-golf as well as Mainley Meats (Bar-B-Que), Bay Gulls bagels and deserts and ice-cream and the Bar Harbor Lobster Pound (set the table, order your lobsters, go pick them up and enjoy on the deck).
The cottage is a ten minute drive from the town of Bar Harbor where you can head for restaurants and shopping. Restaurants for every taste abound from the Chart House, a sea-side fish house, to Havana's, a Latin restaurant with a wine list of note, to Epi's a downtown cafeteria, to Nostranos, a private Italian restaurant. During July and August music abounds with the Bar Harbor Music Festival (with live opera) and the Northeast Harbor Chamber series. Repertory theater is good and the local cinemas are where the locals go. Nearby is also Kebo Valley Golf Club, a historic golf course in Bar Harbor.
Additionally, about 30 minutes away in Ellsworth is a seasonal locomotive, which takes visitors on a scenic ride.

Year Purchased: 2007
About: Assistant property manager for rental property in Bar Harbor Maine.
Why Bar Harbor: This home was purchased by a part time resident and developer in Maine for its million dollar oceanfront location in 2007. The home was renovated and was going to be resold before the market downturn in 2008. It is now a great rental and has been renting out to lucky travelers for the last four years.
