  I have been using VRBO for awhile now to find cozy, authentic accomodations in Roatan. I chose Hobbie's Hideaway in Sandy Bay for my 3rd trip to the island because of it's proximity to the reef. My friend and I both 65+ could not have been happier with the choice. Our hosts, John & Sue and all the other wonderful guests we met made our month in Roatan feel like our 2nd home. Our 1 bedroom with twin beds, full kitchen and adjoining living roonm were perfect for the 2 of us. The TV, WIFI & water pressure were great....this is not always true in Roatan!! Everything we needed to cook our own meals was provided or quickly obtained from our hosts. Providing transportation to and from the airport, to the grocery store, bottled water, and extras like coffee & filters, toilet paper, soap, dish detergent, etc were a BIG plus. Evening gatherings on the porch and especially Sunday BBQ's (cooked by locals and/or John) added to the "at home" atmosphere. A short walk up to the main road made the trip into Coxen Hole & West End very easy and affortable. I would certainly recommend Hobbie's Hideaway to anyone looking for an affortable, peaceful retreat in Roatan. Hope to return next year,

  Paradise: a place of extreme beauty, delight, or happiness. I would say that’s a perfect fit for Hobbies Hideaway. It is a beautiful place, with gorgeous sunsets and ocean front view. The owners John and Sue did everything to make our stay a delight. We had everything we needed along with their knowledge of the island and people, their wonderful personalities and kind hearts. We had so much fun with them, and laughter we'll never forget. The island people were happy and inviting as well. Hobbies was a perfect location for us. It was quiet and away from the crowds of downtown. When we wanted to go though, it was only a short distance away. It was so relaxing to sit out front with a beer in the warm ocean breezes or lay in a hammock on the dock and watch the passing boats. We couldn’t have been happier. Home: an area in which a person feels they belong, a state of comfort. We have traveled allot and have never felt at home until now. We spent almost a month at Hobbies and not once felt uncomfortable. John and Sue welcomed us in like family. Our room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. We had everything we needed. We found a place we belong. The popular saying, “ Home is where the heart is”, well that’s just it. A piece of our hearts are in Roatan at Hobbies Hideaway and we will go back. Hope to see you there!

  First of all the people of Roatan are great and friendly people. John and Sue are the greatest hosts. If we needed anything we just asked and wal-la it showed up!! We had everything we needed. The room was large and clean. We had everything we needed to cook and keep the place tidy. The location is great---quite, picturesque, and homey. The number of rooms are limited so I won't go on and on for fear that there won't be room for me the next time. WE SHALL RETURN!!!! Bill & Jean

  chose hobbies hideaway! was p/u from airp got settled in my great apt-just like id pic in my mind-kit:stove top,microw,fridge-w/ice trays-fill them up w/filtr wter-provided by hobbies, toastr,cof mkr& surprse-elec griddle-used outside to cook seaf-bought fresh from lady&her son-del right to hobbies-shrimp,lob,snapper,oct,kcrab,conch&other seaf also,dishes/pots/ tablew/plates-i washed my dishes, heck the soap is right there. trip to groc store-what an adventure!get xtra Deep Woods OFF-more deet for the no-see-ums,xtra papr towels, charc/starter-i cookd out alot on grill or griddle so bought tom,potat,onion,garlic,bell peprs,chips/salsa, snack stuff, lots of mistic fruit juice-makes a good rum punch:) cokes,bac/eggs/bread-try the coconut bread,butter,jelly&lotsf hot sauce! told john i had started collecting them-when we got back to apt-he showd me his collection-hahaha-mine dsnt look so impressive anymore but im catchinup! bedr-twins beds, a/c-very cold-i emld john w/alot of quest-always answrd quick! told him im from the south-its hot-im glad there is a ceiling fan-when i got there-another surprse, they added a standup fan that i could put anywhere-def plus! i turned off a/c during the day&w/winds open& the fans moving air-apt was cool all day. bathr showerhead had plenty of pres-love the tile-it was so easy to sweep anything dropped-if you do drop food-sweep it up or just like here-you will have ants&dip your feet bfore coming into ur apt-there is a foot wash right by ur door-filled everyday-it will help w/sandfleas & tracking sand all thru your apt. john now offers fishing&island tours-for a great rate-i chose island &went from west bay all the way to east end of islnd w/stops along the way-local made souv stand-got some great deals,food-try temporary cals rest-very good spicy shrimp&fresh chips/salsa&rumpunch! i had rumpunch everywhere&all good:)had the best fresh mango marg@ms jenny's sports bar&grill w/spicy salt arnd the rim-dont use straw.then when u go to west end&u will stop by coconut tree rest-vincent-owner-serves up a mean shrimp salad drizzld w/strawb dressing.enjyd johns tour so much,hes knows lang,cult,where to go&knows how to drive! do take thriller taxiride though:)john&local anthony took 3 of us out to spooky channel to snorkle-id only snorkle once-he didnt hurry me-let me hang onto boat until i was comfortable-then omgosh-so beautiful! anothr local rocky bought hmd hotsau/tortillas&cookd his fried pork-for reasonble $ -cya,9-2013, penny!
