Port Douglas studio description
Lagoons@Port Douglas is a relaxed apartment hotel resort. This deluxe swim-out studio is ideal for single travellers or couples seeking an affordable holiday in a quiet resort, whilst having acess to many activities and outings.
The resort itself is situated on Port Douglas Road which is on the road leading into Port Douglas off of Captain Cook coastal highway.
The resort has 6 extensive outdoor pools, 4 of which are approx. 40m in length and is just 5 minutes walk from 4 mile beach at Port Douglas in far north, tropical Queensland.
The king size bedroom leads directly onto a patio from where you can slip into one of the 40m swimming pools.
You can sit and relax on the patio or enjoy a BBQ at the Cabana between the pools in the central pool area.
There is an excellent wide range of restaurants and bars in Port Douglas itself which is just a 5 min. drive away, or you can catch the local shuttle which runs from the hotel next door every 15 mins.
You can also visit the hotel bar, restaurant or health spa next door if you wish.
The welcoming staff in Lagoons resort foyer can assist in booking any of the numerous trips available in and around Port Douglas. A wide selection of literature is available at the tour desk in the foyer.
We have always had lovely family holidays here and the following excursions are amongst those available :
Visits to Cairns Zoo (with all the fabulous native Australian wildlife) both day or night (around the campfire BBQ).
Feed the kangaroos and see the koalas, birds, snakes and crocodiles at 'Wildlife Habitat' (previously Rainforest Habitat) just 10 mins. drive away.
Don't miss the legendary (& amusing) Cane Toad Races at the Iron Bar Restaurant on Macrossan Street, two or three times weekly.
Walks and tours of the world renowned Daintree Rainforest and Mossman Gorge.
Venture inland to the Atherton Tablelands or further North to Cooktown.
Snorkelling or scuba diving on the Barrier Reef with Quicksilver (amongst other operators).
Outer reef cruises are also possible.
Take a trip on Kuranda scenic railway and cable car over the rainforest canopy to visit the craft markets, butterfly or bird sanctuaries.
Spend a half day visiting 'Tjapukai' the traditional cultural aboriginal village.
Port Douglas river cruises offer the opportunity to view wild crocodiles and sea eagles in their natural habitat.
Go hot air balloning, parasailing or sea fishing.
At the weekend take the old steam train into Port Douglas, an exciting 20 min. ride for the children (& 'young at heart' Dads...) alike !
All of the above trips combined with a relaxing stay at 'Lagoons' make for a memorable vacation in far North Queensland.

As a single traveller I stayed in a studio swim up suite at the Oaks Lagoon in June. The room is just as advertised and pictures very accurate. Oaks Lagoon is a few kilometers outside of Port Douglas so if you are wanting to partake in nightlife this accommodation may not work for you however there is a shuttle bus ($4 each way) every 15 minutes from the Ramada next door. There are not many restaurants close to the accommodation but there is a microwave and small fridge in the suite and a BBQ at the pool area. The room was extremely clean and comfortable - very close to the beautful 4 mile beach - you can walk along the beach in to Port Douglas. The pool area is lovely although was too busy to take advantage of the swim up pool. The entire resort is very well mantained and the staff were all extremely helpful in recommending and booking tours. WIFI is an extra cost. Overall I would not hesitate recommending this accommodation.

Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.
Perfect, comfortable and very clean room with the pool a toe away from a private poolside area. Far too comfortable to leave. The Lagoons resort was also clean, tidy, bright, peaceful and cared for. The staff and owner are very helpful and friendly. Walk to the beach is a moment away and transport in and out of town is very easy and frequent. Recommend those that like to be a little bit more active that hiring a cycle is perfect also, the cycle path into town is lovely or even cycle or walk along the 4 mile beach. Use of Ramada facilities next door is useful but personally found the Oaks Lagoons a much more favourable place to stay and relax. Will definitely recommend to anyone.

About the owner: We are a married couple with three daughters aged 17, 11 & 7 years old. We have travelled extensively together visiting many different locations worldwide. We have always thoroughly enjoyed visiting Port Douglas since our first visit there in summer 2005.
Why the Owner Chose Port Douglas:
Australia is a wonderful, unique country and we were attracted to Port Douglas because it is not too big and relatively unspoilt. We find that it is not over commercialized and neither is it too crowded. Port Douglas' centre has many attractive restaurants with craft and art galleries. You can also enjoy a drink at the traditional Australian pubs and bars on Macrossan Street where you can watch rugby, cricket or Aussie rules matches. We have always had fabulous family holidays here and the children have enjoyed and learnt a lot from the many excursions listed in our opening description and shown on the map. We love the marvellous Australian wildlife, countryside and coastline.
