This was a birthday trip with my husband, daughter and 4 yr. old grandson that could not have been nicer. The cottage is lovely and centrally located for all we wanted to do and more! We used the Aquarium tickets for 2 days of wonder at the fabulous facility and ended up buying a child's membership because of it! I am a great lover of little rustic cottages and this one certainly "filled the bill". Thank you for a great stay!

This is aqctually our second time statying at the cottage. The first time everything was perfect, the cottage, the weather and then I got very will and had to cut our trip short. I was so disappo0inted. We went for our 3rd anniversary hardly got to enjoy our trip. I emailed Carol to let her know we were leaving and she was very concerned. She actually offered our next trip to us for FREE!! She was amazing. We definately enjoyed ourselves this next time around. The fireplace and the tub were my favorites!! I felt comfortable and wouldn't change a thing!! Thanks Carol for a great place to stay:)
Owner response:When Erica called me after her stay at Gull Cottage, she informed me that they had spent their entire vacation at the emergency room. Previously She had been in touch with me for months carefully paying for this trip. I felt so bad, when I found out i offered them redo....I haven't ever done this before......but just felt this was a special incident. So glad the second time was perfect......! Thanks for the nice comment Erica...

Thank you for sharing your cottage with us, Carol. We had the pleasure of staying at the Gull cottage in August and December of 2011. Each stay was 4 days 3 nights. We love it there. It is clean, well-maintained, quiet and cozy. The queen bed is very comfortable, and our son loves the loft and having his little private space. The location is perfect -- it is close very close to the Monterey aquarium and plenty of eatery. Carol provided a very detail list of good restaurants around Monterey and Pacific Grove. We cooked simple food in the kitchen, and ordered food-to-go and have quiet and relaxing dinner at the cottage. The aquarium pass is a superb bonus! Carol is helpful in answering all our questions and concerns and we highly recommend this property. We'll be back soon to visit soon!
Owner response:Thanks so much for the great review, Janet. So glad you had a wonderful time. Look forward to your return!

We had a very rewarding visit to Monterey and surroundings, in large part due this cottage. It is very cozy and convenient to the area places of interest, including many State Parks. It was very quiet and close to good shopping, including Trader Joe's. The aquarium was close enough to walk, if we were younger. The free passes helped to visit it twice and it was a great experience. The kitchen was small but equipped with good appliances and dishes, but no dishwasher. We could not use the nice front patio because of damp conditions due to rain. Parking was a challenge on some occasions, but we managed. If we visit the area again, this cottage will be definitely high on our list. Finally, Caroll was very helpful when we had questions.
Owner response:Thanks for the nice review. Glad you enjoyed the locality of the Cottage along with the quiet neighborhood. I know parking was a bit tricky for the week you were here. The parking spot located in front of the house was taken with workers doing some updating to the house across the street. The construction is now completed!

I am a frequent vrbo renter and I don't like giving less than a stellar review but even though this cottage was quaint and comfortable enough, it was not what I expected. Thus I felt a duty to share my experience as I rely on reviews and appreciate when people are candid. The bed was comfy and the loft would be fun for a young kid, but overall the furnishings are dated, the bathroom was carpeted (my pet peev) and the array of multiple area rugs in the kitchen took away from the charm of the place. The TV is old and tiny (not that you are there to watch one) and there are many notes/signs/rules around the cottage asking you to be careful. They were nicely framed and I totally get that people can be irresponsible but it felt a bit overkill. Especially the story about the jacuzzi tub and what it cost to replace. Made me paranoid and not want to use it other than to take a shower. The Aquarium passes are a huge bonus and Carol was responsive and easy to deal with but it took a while to get my deposit back. It's a quiet, cozy spot and close to Pacific Grove village so it may be fine for most, just not my cup of tea.
Owner response:Thanks for the feedback. We are always striving to improve the cottage. A few comments....We endeavor to keep the environment clean. Carpets are professionally cleaned regularly as is the furniture. The look and feel of attractive rugs softens the floor. I've had many nice comments about the signs and how helpful they are. In VRBO comments it does say the cottage is not new and if you prefer newer maybe a hotel would be better suited.

I stayed here while visiting my daughter at the Presidio - so convienient as the gate is only 3 blocks away! a real plus to anyone visiting thier young servicemen or women at the DLI. We enjoyed this location and were very pleased with the cozi-ness and appointments of this cottage. Perfect place to rewind each night after sightseeing in Monterey and an even nicer place to wake up and make a nice breakfast to start your day. The free passes were a plus and this owner was very easy to deal with. Recommended!

My wife and I sadly departed for home after a fantastic week in the Monterey Bay area. Gull Cottage was a perfect place for our home base. Very relaxing and comfortable. The bed was soothing after a busy day sightseeing. If you like the comforts of home with lots of personal touches, this is the place for you. So very inviting, close to everything, yet remarkably affordable. Thank you, Carol. Our anniversary vacation was simply wonderful John and Cindy rom Colorado

My husband and I stayed at this lovely little cottage in May, 2011. We celebrated my birthday, relaxing in this very peaceful retreat. The location was perfect. Walking distance to restaurants but away from the hustle and bustle of Lighthouse Ave. Carol was most helpful with directions and suggestions of good eating establishments. I must say we almost tried them all! The cottage was very comfortable and grounds were well maintained. We are looking forward to staying at the cottage again, in the near future. We took pictures, while we were at the cottage, and have shared them with family and friends. We recommend this quiet, charming, cottage to anyone who wants a retreat to rest and relax and enjoy the Monterey Peninsula. Thank you, Enid

My wife and I stayed here for one weekend in April. Upon arrival the entrance and landscaping are a bit lackluster but once you get 'back' to the cottage, you have plenty of privacy. The kitchen had everything for cooking small meals. The bathroom was clean with plenty of towels and supplies/products. The bed and living area was cozy with a wall furnace and plenty of blankets. The patio didn't see much sun but was nice. Overall, I would recommend to a couple with or without one child, since there is a sleeping loft.
Owner response:Glad you enjoyed your stay and the cottage worked well for you.

What a charming and delightful cottage. We couldn't have found a more perfect place - while close to everything, we felt we were secluded in a garden far from the rest of the world. This place has everything for a special weekend including peace and quiet. We will be back for certain. Thanks for everything - including the passes to the aquarium! What a special little place.

Really quaint '40s-era cottage perfectly located on border of Pacific Grove and Monterey. 3 blks from Trader Joe's or Safeway and a few restaurants and only minutes to downtowns, aquarium, etc. Perfect for 2 especially if you have the same sleep schedule. A laptop, groceries and local wine...my wife and i were very snug. It's got a cute little courtyard, nice and private tucked behind the main house and the neighborhood is woodsy and charming.

Could not have asked for a better place to spend the weekend after getting engaged. Carol, went out of her way to provide us with Champagne, Cheese and Crackers for this special occasion. Spent the morning having a relaxing Champagne brunch before heading off to the Aquarium and having dinner looking over the Bay! (Thanks for the passes to the Aquarium.) Gull Cottage is a very cozy warm and romantic get away and would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet retreat. Tim and Karen

Carol has described Gull Cottage as a Charming Retreat and it certainly became that during our recent stay. The extra touches - the linen, the china, the bath products reflect the special care given in this rustic hideaway. We especially enjoyed the cooktop and stove top. Vivolo's has wonderful clam chowder, Fourniers Bakery's croissants and bear claws are to die for, Toasties french toast was better than my moms and lunches at Fishwife were great. The sound of the ocean, walks along Asitomar Beach, Route 1 and Big Sur, shopping in Pacific Grove and near-by Carmel were fun and relaxing and lovely simultaneously. Don't miss Trellis if you like to garden, 17 Mile Drive, kayaking at Stillwater Cove with Adventures by the Sea - ask for Bob - we enjoyed it all. And at the end of the day Gull Cottage became a great place for us to come home to, private and welcoming. For us it will be something we will always treasure. Thanks Carol for sharing this with us.

We loved our stay at the Gull Cottage! This was a birthday surprise present for my hubby, the event we attended was the Moto GP Races @ Laguna Seca Raceway and everything was so amazing from the cottage sightseeing and the motorcycle races! The only problem we had was the cottage loft was above the queen bed and Paul kept hitting his head on the bunk bed whenever he got up at night or his hit his head on the bathroom door at night. Other than that the stay was fabulous and we look forward to coming back next year for the races!!
