Paradiese on Earth at the best beach I known
Paradiese on Earth at the best beach I known
"This was the third visit to the island of San Salvador, Bahamas and i'm sure not the last one! This part of the world for sure takes you away from the everyday stress and hassle! The nice beaches, friendly people everywhere and this peaceful site for sure was a perfect getaway. Travelled the world and seen every continent of this planet and the so called "most beautiful" beaches in the world ..... wait till you get here, the long streched clean beach all for yourself, steps away from that house, really heavenly! The property is perfect for us, 1 minute walk to the beach, if wanted you take the great bikes for a little cycle trip and see some other beaches around the property. Once you reach the beach you just have to dive into the clear water, amazing!!! The bikes have been available for us all the time at the house, looked like brand new! The kitches is well equiped with everything you could just want for a GREAT vacation and as they say on there introduction, no need for A/C at night, just leave the doors and windows open and feel the fresh and natural breeze, you wished you have that at home to not need an A/C like the natural way on San Salvador. Have seen many vacation homes and travelled all over the globe but this place is for sure a great place to visit! It's fun to explore the island with a rental car on a day or two. The neighbour (the only one!) is a very nice guy and it was nice having a little chat every now and then. He's the only person tpo share this perefct beach with, nobody else there! At arrival we had water waiting for us in the fridge and for the laundry there was everything right at the property. ClubMed (that is also located on the island) was nice for a visit or to go to the restaurant there but that's just enough, too many people compared to the nice and beautiful house and beach here. A scooter can be rented right at the airport, we didn't bother, had a rental car already arranged. Thank you to the owner for providing such a nice place for us. We do not live on a 80acres ranch, we're city people and just saw the review on this vacation home that we almost call "HOME" ourself by now, i guess 80acres are hard to beat, right? We did enjoy the views from the patio and also out of any window in the house to the ocean, the colors and the beautiful sunsets! The 3 times that we had spent there was GREAT and we all returned home so relaxed and was hard to get back to the real world again. We loved it!!! and we sure will be back.

The house was very nice, extremely well appointed and we were able to do as much and whatever kinds of cooking we wanted. The bed was extremely comfortable, the house is cozy but roomy enough for 4 with 2 full baths, both very nice. There are lots of games, puzzles, books, music and binoculars; many ways to entertain yourselves. There is a beautiful, nearly deserted beach just a short walk away. HOWEVER, we had no idea that there would be a huge house a very short distance away between us and the water. When sitting out on the beautiful little patio we were facing the back of this house. The view of the ocean from there is what you would call "peek-a-view". We were able to moniter the comings and goings of the neighbors (and they ours), whether we wanted to or not. It would have been better if we had known to expect this, we were under the impression that this house was on the water. After reading the review guidelines, I don't think I can give the google earth coordinates. This house was directly behind a large 2 story octagonally shaped part of a much longer building. On the good side, the neighbor is very nice, friendly and social and we did enjoy meeting and talking to him. He graciously invited us when he entertained and his house is certainly spectacular, with a great outdoor sound system.... We were glad not to be at Club Med or staying at the Riding Rock Hotel. For us, the biggest drawback wasn't the lack of privacy and views but the fact that we had no idea until we got there that this would be the case. (We live in the middle of our 80 acre ranch, so maybe our privacy expectations are higher than most...)

Beautiful Home Away From Home
Beautiful Home Away From Home
The home and amenities were all exactly as described in the listing. The home was very clean and fresh-smelling. The interior was very well appointed, with very nice furniture, paintings, curtains, tile flooring and crown moulding throughout. There are two 3-piece washrooms (toilet, sink and shower), including the ensuite. The kitchen has a variety of appliances, as noted. The property is a few hundred metres from a great beach. Actually our guide book said that the beaches in this area of the island are among their favourite snorkelling areas, and we certainly found the snorkelling to be excellent with an abundance of tropical fish found in the coral clusters immediately off the beach. We had planned to cycle back and forth to Cockburn Town, but found it to be too long a haul (at least 3/4 hour one way - and very arduous against a head wind) so ended up renting a car. We enjoyed exploring Watlings castle, which is very close to the home. It was great taking walks along the beautiful sandy beaches in the area, where 'the only footsteps are your own' and the sand is so fine it is reminiscent of talcum powder. We really enjoyed meeting the local people - and found them to be very welcoming of tourists. Be aware that grocery stores are not plentiful, that stores are closed most of the day on Sundays, and that stores/restaurants typically take cash only. Only a few of the larger establishments take credit cards, but even then we heard from one proprietor that the credit card companies commissions can be significant and therefore cash is appreciated. Cash is still basically king on San Sal. A note of caution if you take a walk into the bush (although there is very little call to do so) that there ARE spiders. We almost walked straight into a web on which was the largest spider we'd ever seen - a bit of a thrill for us and we took some awesome close-up photos, but not for the faint of heart. Also, a hint when you are finding your way back home: Follow the telephone poles. We didn't know this, and the first time out we missed the road off the highway and managed to get pretty lost! Again, we loved the home, the property and the location and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a quiet vacation on a rustic island.
