This super charming and authentic yet plush/modernized Log Cabin is located right in the town of Winter Park! It sits on the mountain side, and there is a ski shuttle pickup stop right at the end of the driveway.
The cabin is fully furnished and feels cozy yet at the same time spacious and inviting. The wood logs and chinking look great and it's very cool and campy but has modern conveniences including free WIFI, 40" Sony Bravia with BluRay disc, Cable, a very private outdoor hot tub with 6' privacy fence, gas fireplace, washer and dryer (Eco-Ellie Detergent included), dishwasher, all kitchen cooking accessories, linens, everything. Plus, we just completed a brand new OUTDOOR DECK on the back of the house offering a wonderful outdoor relaxation place. We have a large Aspen grove behind the house and the deck offers a very peaceful and relaxing place to enjoy the trees, fresh air and unobstructed views of the mountain. The deck flows into the hottub and bbq patio area so you'll have plenty of privacy. We used a composite flooring material for the deck so no splinters/kid friendly:)
The main floor/living room area is open and spacious. Great for playing board games in front of the fire, watching movies on the big screen, hanging out and reading. We recently updated the living room with brand new cabin-style leather sofas (full and loveseat) for added style and comfort. The bedrooms are upstairs and include a Master bedroom with queen bed, and a guest/kids room with wood bunk bed plus a double bed. There is an additional stowable queen size mattress available on the main level for adding sleeping options. The sunny and warm game room downstairs is just off the den and has a ping pong table (paddles and balls supplied). GREAT views from this room with the large windows facing the mountain. The sun/ping pong room leads to the outdoor porch which includes an outdoor gas barbecue and a professionally maintained outdoor hottub kept private by a 6 foot slat wood privacy fence. Wonderful view of the night sky from the hottub. Very relaxing, quiet, private and comfy and available year-round. This property is professionally managed/maintained and is very clean and well kept. In addition, we strive to be environmentally and eco-friendly and use cleaning products by Eco Ellie- a boulder based company. This includes laundry detergent as well as basic cleaning supplies. These products work great and do not have the harsh chemicals such as bleach etc. Our cleaning folks use these eco/bio-friendly products exclusively for our cabin! There is also a train that passes through Winter Park; you can take the Amtrak right into town from Denver! The tracks are nearby, but not visible from the cabin. As of November 2011, the town of Winter Park will make certain the crossing at Vasquez Road is a quiet zone. This means the train conductors will not blow their whistle during the day/night except in the case of an emergency.

Charming Log Cabin - Deck, Views, Hottub, Ping Pong, Fireplace
Year Purchased: 2005
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
We purchased this place because it was so unique and charming and offered a true mountain cabin experience. There's a ski shuttle stop at the end of the driveway and it's two minutes from town with all of the restaurants, coffee shops and retail stores. We chose Winter Park because it's so close to Denver (about 1.25 hours drive) and the affordable, down-to-earth, family-friendly Colorado mountain town vibe.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
My wife and I love to come up to WP to enjoy the outdoor activities during the day; mountain biking and hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter. It's great being able to come home and relax at the cabin at night playing cards, jumping in the hottub, cooking, watching movies, hanging out. We LOVE playing ping pong during the day in the always warm/sunny game room.
Wolf Park Playground with picnic tables/outdoor barbecues, tennis court, basketball court, gazeebo, grassy area, nature trail
This is the first traffic light when you get into the town of Winter Park. You'll turn left here to get to the cabin.
This place has a great cozy alpine nordic chateau type ambience and is a great choice for breakfast. Corned beef hash, eggs, large portions, OJ, coffee etc. Great to fuel up before hitting the slopes and right on the way if you're driving (not taking shuttle) to the slopes.

On my trip to Bear Claw cabin unfortunately Winter Park had very low amount of snowfall. The cabin itself though was very nice and well maintained. Kitchen was simple and small with up to date appliances. The bathroom even though there is only one, it is very spacious and nice. It would have been nice for at least a half restroom, but we managed fine. My favorite things about the cabin was its cabin feel and the hot tub outside with a view but still private thanks to the fence. Its hard to find a cheap cabin with both of those features believe me I spent a long time searching all over Colorado and there are not many under 300 a night. The cabin provided many things to do in Winter Park and was very conveniently located with a bus stop right outside and even a nice little walk to the town. We didn't see much wild life, but im sure a lot of that was to do with the strange weather patterns going on this year. If I go back to winter park Colorado, this house will definitely be on my list of possible places to stay. The renters where very helpful and very nice.

Very nice, quiet cabin~ Stay was very nice and relaxing. We will be back again! The only thing that was objectionable...no window coverings at all in the cabin..the bathroom that looks out to the road is one that really would be nice to have coverings added. Other than that...it was a great stay away from home.
Owner response:Hi Kara- Thanks for your review! We were in the processing of having the blinds repaired and cleaned over the long holiday (during your stay), they should be back up this week! -Ashley

My boyfriend and I came for a last minute getaway from Denver. Wow, this place was a find!! Super cute, charming, romantic, cozy!!!!! We really didn't do much in the Winter Park village, we pretty much just hung out at the cabin. Played some board games, barbecued, soaked in the hottub, checked email and relaxed. Perfect little Denver getaway. :))) My boyfriend wants to come back during ski season with our friends, so we'll likely be back. Can't wait!! -Angela and Todd -

Good news about the train that runs through Winter Park! A quiet zone is in the process of being put into effect at Vasquez crossing (near the cabin). The town of Winter Park has done their part to prepare and they are just waiting for Union Pacific to install equipment there that will enable it to then be a quiet zone. The work is now scheduled to be completed in early November 2011. This means from that point forward Vasquez crossing will be a quiet zone and conductors are only to blow their whistle in an emergency situation. No more noisy train whistles! You can check the Town of Winter Park’s website for project updates: http://www.winterparkgov.com/Directory.aspx or you can contact us directly with any questions you may have. Thank you!

We really enjoyed our stay at Bear Claw Cabin! It was clean and very comfortable, the manager was very responsive and gave us some great tips. (Thanks for recommending Moe's!) The location was quite convenient to town yet private and there was plenty of room to stretch out. Having the hotttub right off the deck was perfect. We've stayed at other places in WP over the years but we enjoyed this place the most. :) Thanks for accommodating us Ashley! We'll definitely be back for ski season! -The Hazletts

THe location of the cabin was nice as was the jacuzzi. However, the train ran right by the cabin with a very loud horn at all hours of the day and night. With the windows open, we were awakened like clockwork at 11:30 p.m., 2:30 a.m., 4:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. During the day wasn't a big deal. The patio didn't have a dining table, which would have been nice to have outdoor meals. Rather, a small coffee table was there. Also note that there is one bathroom on the ground floor and the two bedrooms are on the second floor. This may be a problem for families with children.

I found it interesting that not a single review mentions that this cabin is very close to a train track. the train runs at all hours of the day and night. My wife and I found it almost impossible to sleep here. We have one more night left here, but I think we are going to pack up and go find another place to stay tonight and try to get some sleep. The cabin was nice and the manager was very pleasant and professional. There were no other issues other than the train. I should also mention that the train noise affects a lot of other properties besides this one. I would recommend you verify your proximity to the train track before renting anything in Winter Park or Fraser.
Owner response:We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay more in Winter Park! I'm glad that you at-least enjoyed our cabin. There is indeed a train that runs through Winter Park- this is also a benefit as it provides skiers an opportunity to reach the slopes directly from Denver. We always try our best to accommodate our guests- including picking up specific items as you requested. Again, sorry that the train interfered with your perception of Winter Park and the cabin! The tracks nor the train are visible from the cabin and quite a few rental condos and properties in WP are quite a bit closer to the track system! We would be happy to offer you a discount on a future stay if you'd like to try the cabin again! Best, Scott

We had 4 people in our group last January and rented this quaint cabin for a week of skiing. It was a perfect size for our group (plus 1 more person joined us for 3 days). It was very clean and neat and had everything we needed plus some. The owners even supplied us with a new crock pot so we could 'set and forget' our meals for the evening! The hot tub was clean and very private. Great views from the deck, parking was cleared of snow when we got about 8 inches over night! Great location to go downtown for festivities. We are looking at staying again for our 2012 trip.

We hesitated renting this cabin judging by its location, as we were looking for a secluded house surrounded by nature. We were so glad that we ended up renting it (for a month)! It turned out to be so peaceful here… The cabin feels much more private than we expected. As for the surrounding nature… a moose came to eat delicious trees by the cabin 3 times; in the dark, too! (we could see him because he was standing almost on the street). Other animals that we saw from the cabin were fox, deer, chipmunk, and playful magpies. Within walking distance or short drive there are beautiful hiking/biking trails where we saw porcupines, bear, hares, marmot, and, of course, more moose and deer. Get free copies of "mountain biking trail" map and area road map, combine them, and you'll find those trails very easily (they are all great for hiking, not just biking, but some may be covered by snow even in June). The cabin is soooooooo cozy! We fell in love with it… as well as with Winter Park (downtown is within walking distance). We were impressed with its restaurants (especially “Star of India”, “Fontenot’s”, “Backcountry Grill”, and “Deno’s”, a supermarket close by (“Safeway”), and, most of all, the views. There are lots of forests in the area, not just “wide open spaces”. We liked this town better than Grand Lake (although Grand Lake is lovely and worth visiting for a scenic drive, lakes, rustic architecture, stores, and restaurants “SageBrush” and “Rapids” [the latter is not on Main Street]). There is a shuttle service from Denver airport to Winter Park. The owner, manager, and cabin care takers are awesome, too!
