On my trip to Bear Claw cabin unfortunately Winter Park had very low amount of snowfall. The cabin itself though was very nice and well maintained. Kitchen was simple and small with up to date appliances. The bathroom even though there is only one, it is very spacious and nice. It would have been nice for at least a half restroom, but we managed fine. My favorite things about the cabin was its cabin feel and the hot tub outside with a view but still private thanks to the fence. Its hard to find a cheap cabin with both of those features believe me I spent a long time searching all over Colorado and there are not many under 300 a night. The cabin provided many things to do in Winter Park and was very conveniently located with a bus stop right outside and even a nice little walk to the town. We didn't see much wild life, but im sure a lot of that was to do with the strange weather patterns going on this year. If I go back to winter park Colorado, this house will definitely be on my list of possible places to stay. The renters where very helpful and very nice.

Very nice, quiet cabin~ Stay was very nice and relaxing. We will be back again! The only thing that was objectionable...no window coverings at all in the cabin..the bathroom that looks out to the road is one that really would be nice to have coverings added. Other than that...it was a great stay away from home.
Owner response:Hi Kara- Thanks for your review! We were in the processing of having the blinds repaired and cleaned over the long holiday (during your stay), they should be back up this week! -Ashley

My boyfriend and I came for a last minute getaway from Denver. Wow, this place was a find!! Super cute, charming, romantic, cozy!!!!! We really didn't do much in the Winter Park village, we pretty much just hung out at the cabin. Played some board games, barbecued, soaked in the hottub, checked email and relaxed. Perfect little Denver getaway. :))) My boyfriend wants to come back during ski season with our friends, so we'll likely be back. Can't wait!! -Angela and Todd -

Good news about the train that runs through Winter Park! A quiet zone is in the process of being put into effect at Vasquez crossing (near the cabin). The town of Winter Park has done their part to prepare and they are just waiting for Union Pacific to install equipment there that will enable it to then be a quiet zone. The work is now scheduled to be completed in early November 2011. This means from that point forward Vasquez crossing will be a quiet zone and conductors are only to blow their whistle in an emergency situation. No more noisy train whistles! You can check the Town of Winter Park’s website for project updates: http://www.winterparkgov.com/Directory.aspx or you can contact us directly with any questions you may have. Thank you!

We really enjoyed our stay at Bear Claw Cabin! It was clean and very comfortable, the manager was very responsive and gave us some great tips. (Thanks for recommending Moe's!) The location was quite convenient to town yet private and there was plenty of room to stretch out. Having the hotttub right off the deck was perfect. We've stayed at other places in WP over the years but we enjoyed this place the most. :) Thanks for accommodating us Ashley! We'll definitely be back for ski season! -The Hazletts

I found it interesting that not a single review mentions that this cabin is very close to a train track. the train runs at all hours of the day and night. My wife and I found it almost impossible to sleep here. We have one more night left here, but I think we are going to pack up and go find another place to stay tonight and try to get some sleep. The cabin was nice and the manager was very pleasant and professional. There were no other issues other than the train. I should also mention that the train noise affects a lot of other properties besides this one. I would recommend you verify your proximity to the train track before renting anything in Winter Park or Fraser.
Owner response:We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay more in Winter Park! I'm glad that you at-least enjoyed our cabin. There is indeed a train that runs through Winter Park- this is also a benefit as it provides skiers an opportunity to reach the slopes directly from Denver. We always try our best to accommodate our guests- including picking up specific items as you requested. Again, sorry that the train interfered with your perception of Winter Park and the cabin! The tracks nor the train are visible from the cabin and quite a few rental condos and properties in WP are quite a bit closer to the track system! We would be happy to offer you a discount on a future stay if you'd like to try the cabin again! Best, Scott

THe location of the cabin was nice as was the jacuzzi. However, the train ran right by the cabin with a very loud horn at all hours of the day and night. With the windows open, we were awakened like clockwork at 11:30 p.m., 2:30 a.m., 4:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. During the day wasn't a big deal. The patio didn't have a dining table, which would have been nice to have outdoor meals. Rather, a small coffee table was there. Also note that there is one bathroom on the ground floor and the two bedrooms are on the second floor. This may be a problem for families with children.

We hesitated renting this cabin judging by its location, as we were looking for a secluded house surrounded by nature. We were so glad that we ended up renting it (for a month)! It turned out to be so peaceful here… The cabin feels much more private than we expected. As for the surrounding nature… a moose came to eat delicious trees by the cabin 3 times; in the dark, too! (we could see him because he was standing almost on the street). Other animals that we saw from the cabin were fox, deer, chipmunk, and playful magpies. Within walking distance or short drive there are beautiful hiking/biking trails where we saw porcupines, bear, hares, marmot, and, of course, more moose and deer. Get free copies of "mountain biking trail" map and area road map, combine them, and you'll find those trails very easily (they are all great for hiking, not just biking, but some may be covered by snow even in June). The cabin is soooooooo cozy! We fell in love with it… as well as with Winter Park (downtown is within walking distance). We were impressed with its restaurants (especially “Star of India”, “Fontenot’s”, “Backcountry Grill”, and “Deno’s”, a supermarket close by (“Safeway”), and, most of all, the views. There are lots of forests in the area, not just “wide open spaces”. We liked this town better than Grand Lake (although Grand Lake is lovely and worth visiting for a scenic drive, lakes, rustic architecture, stores, and restaurants “SageBrush” and “Rapids” [the latter is not on Main Street]). There is a shuttle service from Denver airport to Winter Park. The owner, manager, and cabin care takers are awesome, too!

I was looking for a 2 bedroom cabin with a hot tub, and I can't believe I found it right in WP. Everything was perfect - fireplace, a big coffee table for playing games, couches and a great flatscreen TV for watching movies with friends. No long, snowy walk from the hot tub to the back door, even. The slow cooker came to my rescue - I brought up my hot pot and realized my dish wouldn't fit in the size I brought, so I used the larger one in the cabin. Again, it was perfect. I can't believe I almost had to rent a condo with public hot tub - yikes! This will be THE place to stay from now on in WP! Thank you!

For most people making reservations at a new place can be a trying experience, after all its human nature to expect the worst. Anxiety over whether the hotel or condo actually looks like what it does in the pictures overcomes rational thought. Asking yourself over and over if you got the reservations correct and hoping you won’t be searching for a room at the last minute. Well I can personally guarantee that this is not the case with Bear Claw Cabin. From the moment you arrive and put the key in the door all your worries disappear. Located in Downtown Winter Park and just minutes from Winter Park Resort the Bear Claw Cabin is the perfect base lodge for your winter vacation. Vaulted ceilings and traditional western décor make the Bear Claw Cabin a unique place for your mountain getaway experience. Transportation to the mountain could not be more convenient as the shuttle bus makes a stop right at the end of the driveway, did I mention it’s free! Restaurants, shopping, and ski shops are just minutes away and right down the hill from the cabin. Upon arrival at Bear Claw the first order of business is to turn on the fireplace as the cabin can be a bit drafty. Apart from the fireplace the cabin features a hot-tub which is much welcomed after a long day on the mountain, not to mention sometimes needed. The west-facing deck is a great place to watch the sun-set over Winter Park and take some great pictures. The cabin can comfortably accommodate up to 6 guests. With a large living-room hosting 3 couches and a flat-panel TV there are multiple places to lounge, relax, and entertain. Featuring 2 bedrooms with two-queen size beds, and a bunk-bed there are plenty of sleeping options available. Not to mention the full-size couches in the living are up-for-grabs. As a bonus the cabin has a washer and dryer unit which is a nice amenity that usually isn’t found in hotels or at resorts. If you are looking for affordable lodging in Winter Park where you can put some space between you and the hustle & bustle of the mountain then Bear Claw Cabin is for you.

We had 4 people in our group last January and rented this quaint cabin for a week of skiing. It was a perfect size for our group (plus 1 more person joined us for 3 days). It was very clean and neat and had everything we needed plus some. The owners even supplied us with a new crock pot so we could 'set and forget' our meals for the evening! The hot tub was clean and very private. Great views from the deck, parking was cleared of snow when we got about 8 inches over night! Great location to go downtown for festivities. We are looking at staying again for our 2012 trip.

While the cabin may not have been 100% ready for our stay, we enjoyed the cabin, the ping pong table, and the hot tub. It was a nice place to get away from people and spend time as a fimily during our ski trip. It was a fun place to stay during our winter vacation. The property manager was easy to get a hold of and quick to respond to our requests.

What a great place to stay. I was looking at somewhere on Mountain side and my wife suggested that we look for a cabin for us and three teenage boys, Got luck and found this place...........What a view, a hot tub right out the door and room for all of us and our dog!!!!. Place was cozy, warm and plenty of room. We cooked Thanksgiving dinner after skiing all day in the kitchen. Skiing was located only 5 mins away and going to town was just down the hill. Excellent cabin and would return without hesitation. Loved the view early morning walking dog..........Watching sun poke up over mountains and actually seeing my first, "Purple Mountain". Great people to do business, or in my case, vacation with.

Bear Claw Cabin is very comfortable--so much nicer than renting a condo. Really nice setting, with great views and a quiet neighborhood in walking distance of business district. Gorgeous deck and great hot tub. Summer in Winter Park is fantastic--laid back and beautiful. Plenty of restaurants and many activities at local Hideaway Park. There's a lot of good hiking in Grand County, too. This was our third visit to WP and we would definitely rent Bear Claw Cabin again!

Bear Claw cabin was a great place to stay after spending seven hours on the slopes. THe cabin had a ton of character and very cozy. Great outdoor hot-tub with complete privacy. PingPong to keep kids occupied and cozy couches to watch movies and simply relax. The management service was very responsive. We had a few minor requests and within hours they were fulfilled. We loved how private it was and would definitely stay here on our next trip to Winter Park.

We had a great stay at this cabin. Great family getaway and the kids loved the wood frame bunk beds. BIG plus having the ski shuttle stop at the end of the driveway. The cabin was perfect for family of 4 and it was great having our own private log home to come back to and to enjoy the private hottub. Awesome ski cabin- we'll be back!

I love this cabin. I stayed there with some friends and the location is excellent since is near to restaurant and ski areas. The shuttle service is great so you don’t need to drive and worry about parking. Is such a cozy cabin, really clean and comfy. It has a great sharing area with a fire place, great for watching TV, have some drinks or just to hang out. The ping pong area is sunny and comfy to play at every time. I am looking forward to stay there again!

I stayed in this cabin for a weekend in the summer. It had everything I needed; kitchen supplies, a gas grill, hot tub, etc. And it was a short 5 minute or so walk into town close to the local restaraunts. There were four beds and several couches to sleep on as well as plenty of floor space for additional air mattresses. Wireless access also worked fine for checking email and local restaraunt webpages.

This cabin is in a great location and easy to find, especially for people that are from out of town. It is a really beautiful place to stay, we felt like we were at home and still on vacation with no worries. We have pets as well and it was no problem that we brought them along. This was really convinent for us to be away from home. One of our favorite places was the hot tub, which a great place to hang out with your friends and family with it's location still being private. Also, this property is very clean and well maintained. We were very pleased with our stay and would recommend it highly.
