Rejuvenate yourself at the premier oceanfront cottage in Atlantic Beach. Relax on the warm deck, listening to the joyful sounds of ocean waves mere steps away. Skip down to the beach on your private pathway through the gently swaying sea oats. Watch as your children play in the sun-soaked sand on the shores of the dazzling Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy a sunset, then retreat to your spacious accommodations filled with beach décor, and rest in your choice of five bedrooms. In the morning, walk down the quiet beach to The Circle for some coffee, breakfast, shopping, or other activities. No matter what you chose to do, your stay at Sea Haven promises to add many wonderful memories to your vacation scrapbook!
Sea Haven is a spacious, five bedroom, two-bath, oceanfront, historic beach house that is perfect for your ocean get-away. At approximately 3000 square feet, Sea Haven is one of the largest in Atlantic Beach. The home is owned by two Marine Corps officers who merely want to offset the costs of ownership, so our rates are substantially better than most, especially on a per person basis. The top floor rooms are exceptionally large at about 36'x 14'. The east room is divided into two bedrooms...one room for the parents overlooking the ocean, and an adjoining room for the kids. The kids room is entered through the parents room...a nice feature for those families who want to keep a close eye on toddlers. All beds are spacious high-quality queens, except for one king in the master suite and two single twin beds (provided for children or teenagers). The bed layout is as follows:
1st floor bedroom on ocean (south) - 1 king (2)
1st floor bedroom on street side of house (north) - 1 queen (2)
2nd floor bedrooms on ocean (east) - 1 queen in parents room on the ocean; 1 queen and 1 twin (5) in the adjoining children's room.
2nd floor bedroom on ocean (west) - 3 queens and 1 twin (7)
Bathrooms are located between the bedrooms for convenient access (one bathroom per floor, or two total, with the bathrooms entered through the bedrooms).
Both floors have independent thermostats and central heat/air units to optimize comfort. New flat screen TV's installed as well.
Sea Haven has terrific facilities for outdoor activities. The deck is exceptionally large at over 500 square feet, and has an attached shower shed (ambient temperature). There is also a covered 400 square foot porch with two large picnic tables, which are great for inclement weather or for just getting out of the sun. The view is unmatched...Sea Haven faces due south on an east-west beach, so during certain times of the year, you can enjoy both a sunrise and a sunset from the same location (this is one of the few beach locations in the US where this occurs). From the steps of the deck, the waves at high tide are only about 15 yards away.
The location in Atlantic Beach is also a plus due to the wide variety of activities and restaurants available. Sea Haven lies in a quiet, relaxing neighborhood, yet still lies within walking distance of the Atlantic Beach Boardwalk and a fishing pier. Several restaurants are also within walking distance.
The official occupancy is listed at ten adults due to some recently enacted real estate regulations, but the house has 1 King, 6 Queens, and 2 twins (please reference the photos and below to see the bed layout). IF YOU ASK about the occupancy, you WILL be told 10 adults maximum. We don't want to deny you a stay, but if you tell us you have more than 10 people, we can't rent to you. We trust that you will bring the appropriate number of people, so no one will be counting occupants. For your convenience, when you arrive in Atlantic Beach, only the person on the contract needs to go check in with the management. The rest of your entourage can proceed to the house and wait for your family member to arrive with the key. With the number of beds, the cost per person is among the best you'll find for ANY ocean front home, making Sea Haven one of the best values on the beach. Additionally, in order to ensure quality service 24 hours a day and to make your stay as pleasant and trouble free as possible, we employ a professional management company which will cater to your every need. They offer a wide variety of services, and will provide you with the best vacation experience possible. We hope you enjoy your stay! If you have any issues that are not resolved satisfactory by contacting the management, please email me at funkra@ gmail. com.

The location was perfect: close enough for shopping, eating, and biking, yet was on a quiet street with our own private path to the beach. My mother enjoyed sitting on the porch looking out at the ocean, which is a stone's throw from the deck. Lots of beds and space... We stayed in the "Chaperone" room on the top floor, with our kids in the adjoining room. We all feel strongly that we will visit again. Thanks for a wonderful experience!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.

We arrived to find the house ready and very clean. We immediately discovered that the number of beds was reduced from what was in the photos, but we worked it out and everyone had a place to sleep. Each of the 2 bathrooms are entered by going through a bedroom and this was an issue, especially at night, but again, we made signs to hang on the bedroom doors for when someone was napping. Having different ages (from 2 to 86), with varied bedtimes, probably contributed to this problem. The children especially enjoyed the huge deck and played there frequently. We would advise everyone to not make your reservations too early in the year. We did, and the rental rates dropped by our vacation time and the realtor and owner refused to refund the difference. This left a bad taste in our mouth and we will not be returning next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway.
Owner response: Dear Rebecca, I wish you had you actually contacted me, as I would have done all I could to make you happy. My number is listed on the VRBO property website, & it specifically requests you contact me if you have a problem. Since I received your review, I have taken the time to call you 2 times & I have sent at least 3 emails but no one has provided the courtesy of a response. Also, I knew nothing about a rate reduction request, yet you state in writing “owner refused to refund the difference.” As you know, this statement is false, as the first time we heard about this was AFTER we received your VRBO review. While we welcome honest criticism, it appears your negative review came mainly from the management company’s refusal of your demand that they lower the contract price to something less than WHAT YOU AGREED TO (IN WRITING). Most people don’t purchase something then expect their money back if the prices go down later, particularly when it comes to booking high-demand oceanfront properties. People pay a premium to reserve their stays in advance in order to ensure they have their vacation property available during the week they want. Most people understand this. In regards to the beds, the number of beds in the house is EXACTLY as advertised, in writing, on our website, so not sure what the issue was there. Sometimes people move the beds around, so the bed locations may not be exactly as depicted in the photos. Additionally, the number of beds exceeds the authorized number of occupants, giving renters additional flexibility...a bonus at no additional cost to you. As to the location of the bathrooms, this is also specifically mentioned in the write up on VRBO as well. Most people have enjoyed having an adjoining bathroom, rather than one down the hall. In any case, I really wish you would have left a happy customer, as that is truly our goal. We are known for providing the best value in all of Atlantic Beach, & we have the longest running & most successful VRBO Listing in North Carolina. You’ll also note that this is the ONLY 2 star review we have (or have ever had). The bottom line is the general substance of your review is, at best, very inaccurate. And while it many not have been your intent, your review appears to be malicious and vindictive in nature...arising solely out of your inability to force management to agree to a lower price than that which you agreed to. We therefore regret we won't be able to rent to you again.

Booked this lovely house for a moms’ weekend away for some friends and I, and we had a great time. House is very clean, well-decorated, and had a great beachy vibe -- a real PLUS! I loved that there were some great views of the ocean from the windows, and spacious living room/bedrooms. Location is perfect -- right on the beach with our own path, yet within easy walking distance to pier and boardwalk. We would DEFINITELY stay here again and recommend it to friends!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We visit the beach every summer, and this is by far the best place we've stayed at. The house has lots of space for a big family and lots of old beach cottage charm. And, the home was very clean and well maintained...in fact, the neighbors said a new roof, new 3rd floor windows and cedar shakes were installed a few weeks before we arrived. We selected one of the rooms on the ocean on the top floor, then put our 3 kids in the room next to ours (north-east side?) so we could keep a close eye on them. We have a wondering todler, so we liked that he had to go through our room before getting out and getting into mischief. The view was magnificent, and we loved our cozy room by the beach. The location is fantastic...the ocean is only about 50' from the deck steps, and there is a private path through the sea oats down to the beach. The house also lies on a very quiet street, but was close enough to "the circle" that we could walk down the beach or street to the associated shops, restaurants, and rides. Lastly, we took full advantage of the size and number of beds (no one checked on us), so our cost per person was substantially lower than anywhere else we looked at. We will be booking again for next year!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, pet owners, age 55+.

Loved staying at the poperty. We sat out on the deck feeding a small bird. Walked out on the beach and watched a group of Pelicans feeding near waters edge. The sunset from the deck was absolutely beautiful. The location of the house is so convenient. Walked to the circle to watch the kite festival. The house itself is unique and pleasing to the senses. Have to stay there to experience the Sea Haven qualities. You won't be sorry.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

Love this historic home! The walls and ceilings are rich, solid wood from old growth forests...something you'll NEVER find in a modern house. Lots of space, plenty comfortable, and very clean. I am a little astonished at some of the petty comments from a couple of recent reviews... The deck looked fine to me. Saw a few wild cats but nothing bothersome. The walkway to the beach is "overgrown" with some pretty, natural vegetation (sea oats, I think)...personally I like it and wouldn't want some broad path that leads from the beach to where I'm staying...I prefer a small "secret" path that most people won't notice or use except me and my family. Besides, I don't know about North Carolina, but I know on Long Island its against the law to disturb the vegetation because it helps preserve the dunes. There is a brand new (still has the tags on it) dryer there...apparently the owner must have bought a new one as soon as he was told there was a problem with the old one. Someone complained about 2 bathrooms when that is clearly listed described on the VRBO site...if you wanted more than two bathrooms, why did you rent the house? Saw lots of activity around the property as guys came to check the place over for hurricane repairs. The nice bug guy came to treat just as a precaution. We didn't see one bug...maybe the hurricane scared them away! Ha. Only thing I could recommend is perhaps the addition of some internet access...maybe the owner can add that for our stay next year. Anyhow, we LOVED the place.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners.

After reading the last couple reviews we were a little worried, but this house was everything we had hoped for and more. Despite the fact that we were issued a mandatory evacuation due to Hurricane Irene, our time there was amazing. We had 5 kids under the age of 10, 3 teens, and 6 adults, and we were all perfectly comfortable. The photos show old TV's but there are new flat screens in the bedrooms and living room. The deck was great for meals and hanging out. The beach is superb - there were very few other people there. We did find a couple of tiny roaches, but it is a beach house in NC and they have obviously taken measures to keep up on this issue. The kitchen was well stocked with essential tools. It was clean and comfortable. We would come back in a heart beat and hope that we can. Hoping that Hurricane Irene was kind to Sea Haven. The only other take-away: buy the insurance if you are arriving during hurricane season! :)Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

I just returned from a weekend stay at the Sea Haven. It was the most relaxing, peaceful time that I & some of my closest friends have had in quite a long time. The place is beautiful sitting right on Atlantic Beach (the sunrises are breathtaking)! The accomidations were more than we expected, very clean & well maintained. I have already recommended this proerty to others and I would love to stay again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

My husband and I, and our 4 year old son stayed at Sea Haven New Years Eve, after my husband returned home from Iraq. It was a wonderful place to escape, reunite and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The spaciousness of the home is incredible and a rare find. The extremely large upstairs bedrooms were a welcome surprise as our son enjoyed playing from room to room. It would easily accommodate our larger family and give each person privacy as well as room to play and enjoy their stay in an open environment. The dining area was also perfect for eating and game playing! This quaint home has charm and unique characteristics that made it a winner for us. The wood floors, cozy atmosphere, and comfortable furnishings were perfect "back drops" for our winter getaway. The home was extremely clean and inviting and well maintained. The location was tops! Centrally located, you are close to beach activities movie theaters and nearby shopping! All of which are a must for us!! We enjoyed activities and restaurants both in Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle and Morehead City. These places are close, convenient, and easy to get to. I think above all, we enjoyed going out onto the large covered deck and walking out to the gorgeous beachfront, just steps away. The sun sets and shelling were amazing and although the water was too cold to swim in due to cold temps, we did get to enjoy the "Polar Bear" club take their first dive for the new year into the frigid water on January 1st! Brrrrrr!! I have stayed in many summer beach homes in this area over the years and this was by far the one that met our needs the most! I would highly recommend this property to anyone interested in vacationing in the winter or summer months. It is perfect for any family wishing to have a wonderful week together making memories!! We cannot wait to return again in the near future for a summer break! I also would like to rent it again for a special "Girls Getaway". It would be an awesome place for scrapebooking and just hanging out with the girls. Enjoy!Recommended for: People with disabilities, sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

This is a classic beach house. It is ocean front and has a private walk through the dunes to the beach, which was great for the Kids. The location isn't down island so access to Morehead and Beaufort was great. Quiet street was excellent. Plenty of space and sleeping for large families.Did you find this review helpful? Owner info
Year Purchased: 1992
About the owner: Rodney and Patrick bought this house when they were Lieutenants based at MCAS Cherry Point. After finishing a mission, they would often fly over beautiful Emerald Isle on the way back to base. Finally, one summer day in 1992, Rodney went down to Atlantic Beach to see if he could find a home there, and on that day he found Sea Haven. Together Patrick and Rodney scraped up their limited savings and bought the house, which was in great need of repair. For the next 10 years, many weekends and holidays were spent renovating the home. Today, the house is a Carteret County historic home, and is one the finest examples of North Carolina beach cottages around. Rodney and Patrick are still buddies and both are retired from the Marine Corps, with over 40 years of combined military service. Rodney is married to Pernille from Denmark, and Patrick is married to Carrie from Florida.
Why the Owner Chose Atlantic Beach:
If you want something different and unique, this house is for you. Sea Haven has that traditional beach cottage charm. Walls and ceilings are gorgeous Carolina pine, something you never see in new construction.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
As they say, location, location, location. The house is on a quiet street conveniently located within walking distance (2 blocks) of the Atlantic Beach Circle and Boardwalk. Also within walking distance of some ocean fishing piers. The home is professionally managed by Spectrum Resort Properties, so you will always have assistance should you require it. Please contact the owners at funkra@gmail.com should you need additional assistance.
