My family and I just spent 9 days at the Hightaway and have nothing but good things to say. The property was so gorgeous the photos really don't do it justice. The house was just as described, very clean and cute. We liked how the kid's room was separated from our room by a jack and jill bathroom. The beds were very comfortable. Our children were so busy on the rope swing, canoe and river raft that they didn't watch TV for the whole trip. There was also a tire swing, swingset and picnic table. A couple of peacocks wandered around, too, and we got to see a turtle laying her eggs under the deck. Although Center Point is a tiny town, they do have a couple restaurants worth going to. In fact, while we were at Dave's (whick is walking distance from the Hightaway), there was a photojournalist there from Texas Highways doing a story about it who took some photos of us for their magazine. Vicky's Burger's was also worth trying. This is a magical, beautiful place and we wish we could have stayed forever.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thanks so much for such a nice review. We can't wait to have you back.

Our weekend trip could not have been any better, except that it was too short. When we came across this property on homeaway.com, we just had to book it. The listing was everything we were looking for and when we got there, we found out it was everything we expected. We had a full house with 4 adults and 4 younger children and the sleeping accomadations were sufficient. We took enough food along to eat-in the whole weekend which consisted of using the stove top and the bbq pit on the deck. There were enough cooking utensils for all our food prep needs and it was home cooking from there. Breakfast was nice on the deck, lunch was good down by the river and dinner was even better on the deck. As for the entertainment, there were endless options. We tried our best to take advantage of them all, but just couldn't in a weekends time. I think canoeing had to be the highlight of my stay especially since the water was so calm and the area so quiet. The hardest part was deciding which way to take the fork in the river. The famiy also enjoyed sitting around the fire pit roasting(burning) marshmallows and enjoying the stars. Hard to find that back home in Houston. Needless to say, we will be back again, hopefully in the summer. Maybe next time we could treat some friends to a nice Hightaway, away from "it" all. Thanks to the owners who made checking in and out a smooth process and for giving us the pleasure of staying at their riverfront home.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you so much for the kind words. It is a such a pleasure to hear the good feed back from our renters. We feel good knowing that you had as much fun as we do when our family is there together. Hope to have you back soon.

This is a fabulous place to stay. I have had two seperate stays and each time has been wonderful. The first time was a girls weekend getaway. We just discussed this past weekend trying to plan another stay. The second time was a family trip. Everyone one had such a great time on the rope swing, floating dock and can canoe. The river is very peaceful and deep. I would highly recommend this wonderful getaway to anyone!!!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

Good news: the house was very attractive inside. Clearly, the owners worked hard to create an appealing living space. The inside was well maintained with all nice appliances. The living and kitchen areas featured hardwood floors. There were plenty of plush towels and complimentary soaps and shampoos. Although the trees had not yet gotten their leaves when we were there, the river view from the deck was most enjoyable. The one restaurant in Center Point, Los Dos Amigos, has wonderful flour tortillas which are made in the restaurant. It's not elegant, but we had breakfast twice there and the food was great. Bad news: The grounds surrounding the house are a work in progress. There was an effort to clean up, but the area just outside the house still looks like a rough construction site. There is a (storage?) building in front of the house that seems to rest somewhat precariously on a collection of building blocks and assorted scrap lumber. Our first impression was not a good one. Apparently the house was recently moved from another location to this one. The floors on the west side of the house did not fare well. When walking in either of the two bedrooms, floor movement and loud creaking noises are disconcerting. One of the two bathroom doors could not be completely closed. Summary: This is an appealing location which still needs work. I'm sure that the owners will eventually create an outside space to match the inside.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

About the owner: A happy family who loves the Hill Country and the River.
Why the Owner Chose Kerrville:
We were lucky to get this Little piece of undiscovered heaven in 2005.
We decided to try and rent our house for vacation rentals use in 2006 and were overwhelmed with how many people want to come to the hill country. Once renters arrived here they were more than surprised how awesome the water, trees and area are, just as we were.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Peacefulness, Ducks, floating on the dock, Relaxing on the Deck, Rope swing and Dave's Place
