LOVED LOVED LOVED this place. Such a beautiful house with a awesome location on top of the mountain. The owners have created a GEM of a place. The house is beautiful on the inside and so homey filling. 12 of us just relaxed and took in the views for the whole week we truly felt relaxed and hated to get back to the hustle and bustle of home. Our 4 teenagers never complained one time that they were bored which is amazing. Loved picking blackberries every morning and having a camp fire every night. The road leading to the house is quite an adventure but so worth it. All 12 of us said that we would go back in a heart beat wished we had stayed two weeks instead of one. PS ..The dogs even look sad to be home they loved the freedom of roaming the property in the day. Thanks for sharing this place with us it was as close to HEAVEN as it gets!!!

Sis and her friends were in the bunkhouse and we had 7 kids and 8 adults Oh and my brother Solomon in the house. We had a party and made a fire outside. Kids played in the hot tub. Love the décor and some people took pictures of the kitchen wall – sooo cool! 5/8/11 Thank you for a wonderful family memory. Our daughter (3 of 4) just graduated from Lees MCcrae and we had a wonderful reunion with family and friends. The bunkhouse was perfect for the graduate and friends. Even some of the professors came up to celebrate and loved the place! I hope we can do it again in the near future. Thanks so much The Sterns"

My whole family (all 17 of us) stayed at Hilltop Hideaway for Thanksgiving this year and it was the perfect place for us. The location is one of the most beautiful settings I've seen in the NC mtns. I felt like the top of the mtn we were on was placed right in the middle of a circle of mtn ranges. Gorgeous!! Literally a 360 degree view (especially after the leaves had fallen). So glad I found this listing. I can also see why you would need chains/4wheel drive in winter months. One lane, narrow drive to the top, but so worth the drive once you get there. The house is decorated beautifully and was VERY clean. Kitchen has the supplies you'll need for cooking, etc... The bunk house was PERFECT for the kiddos, they loved it. Every room in the house has a door that goes outside! Debra, the owner, is very sweet and very easy to deal with. Thanks McGinty's for sharing your AWESOME Mountain Home! Hope to rebook for next year!!

First of all.....there's no way to accurately describe this wonderful place. It's better than the pictures and better than even the wonderful reviews. My husband and I stayed for four days surrounding our anniversary weekend. We had originally planned on booking the owner's other property in Foscoe, but called back too late and missed it. She told me about Hilltop Hideaway and even though it was much more space than we needed, the privacy and the views sold me on the place right from the start. After staying there one night, I knew I had made the right decision. We were there during the hottest week of the summer and I have allergy problems. I was worried about having no A/C, and even though I always doubt the folks who say that A/C isn't needed in the mountains...I must say that the way the house is situated on the property that there was ALWAYS a cool breeze coming up the wooded side of the mountain. It blew up through the trees and through the house...God's own air conditioning!! The views were great...the peace and quiet lying in the hammock, the wildflowers and butterflies, the beautifully decorated rooms and all the modern ammenities just make me want to go back for a family reunion or friends weekend. The very best thing is that we got to take our 15 year old dog with us. She's got arthritis and is getting a little senile, but she perked up like a puppy up on the mountain. The decks are big and we took a couple of baby gates so she could wander around without falling down the steps. We loved it so much that we ate in every day and didn't want to go down the mountain. The roads are gravel and very steep and curvey, but my old minivan did just fine in low gear. I'm sure in the winter we'd bring a different vehicle. Debra, thanks for letting us extend the stay and for making such a wonderful place that has given so many people so much happiness.....not the least of all...us!

My party stayed at the Hilltop Hideway over MLK Jr. weekend and had a great time. The home is beautiful and was just as presented on the site. The view was remarkable! The owner was also very helpful in directing us to alternate parking for our 2WD vehicles that couldn't make it up the mountain (we did have 4WD vehicles that had no problem, but the area had just recieved almost 2' of snow!). I look forward to staying here again and would love to see it in the Summer months as well. We loved the hot tub, fireplace, and close proximity to the ski slopes.

Many prayers were said on the trail up and down in the snow/wind to get here. We enjoyed snowboarding, tubing and just rolling in the snow. My husband, his brother and two cousins from Brazil, all the wives and kids (13) fit well in this cozy house. Thank you for this magical experience. It was a perfect gathering spot for everyone to enjoy whatever mountain ‘activity’ that they chose each day. Tommy and I hiked down (and back, whew!) the mountain, sat by several of the beautiful waterfalls, enjoyed watching your neighbor’s llamas and goats, geese, ducks and pot belly pigs at the farm. We hiked to the waterfall behind the church of the Holy Cross – What a reward! The waterfall is spectacular and has a small pond area that we waded in barefoot! The Valle Crucis Community Park is an absolute gem! We walked along the river and watched several fly fishermen that were fishing in the river. Very fascinating and calming to see them patiently working to catch a fish. A great place to take children that need to burn some energy – the playground is excellent and paved trails around the park are perfect for running, bike riding, roller blading and just strolling. We all enjoyed the Mast General Store and the Annex together as well as a day at Grandfather Mountain. Thank you for sharing your special spot with us. We hope to return next year to celebrate our son’s safe return from Iraq! "Its been 2 years since our last gathering at the Hilltop Hideaway! Not as many family members were able to join us this time. Our thoughts are with them as we reminisce about the good times we had and memories we made while we were here last time. This vacation is no different = full of memory makers! Kids chasing butterflies, climbing the trees out back and playing hide and go seek. Mom is rocking and reading on the proch. The humming birds provided lots of entertainment. From Our Guestbook in the cabin:“Hello! This is our 2nd time staying at one of your cabins. 16 months ago we stayed at your High Country Fever cabin which is where we met. She from Saint Augustine and I from Raleigh – we had a magical time and stayed in the area 4 extra days cause of the snow and cause we couldn’t leave this beautiful area. This trip was just as special. We decided to get engaged here and had a spectacular time. The hot tub was amazing. The weather was great except for high winds & rain the first night. We made many more friends up here. Our dogs Sally and Mae (Collie & Lab) were in heaven. The hike all the way to the road (194) almost killed us but it was the most beautiful day and had to happen. From Our Guestbook in the cabin: "We were all very pleasantly surprised with the beauty this place possesses. We enjoyed gorgeous views from every window. The peacefullness was amazing. The first night we arrived around 6pm and couldn't get up the ______ driveway with our non- 4 wheel drive vehicle. We literally pushed the car up the driveway (PS it snowed that morning). But when we finally made it it took our breath away! I/we never imagined how beautiful it would be. The next few days were filled with skiing at Sugar Mountain. We loved retreating to the cabin after those hard days. We have already decided to make this an annual vacation. It exceeded every expectation." I (Chip) did not tell the guys in advance where we were going; needless to say they were all very pleased. We sat around the fire and experienced the wonder and beauty of God's creation. Your place provided the perfect back drop for us and we are all plotting how/when to get our families up here to repeat the experience. Thank you for your hospitality.
