Kona Onenalo house description
Your Kona Beach House sits on the point of a bay with lush tropical landscaping, flowers and palm-trees surrounding a swimming pool and jacuzzi/spa. The serenity is not marred by street-noise or house-parties. Situated at Kona Onenalo: a gated 12-home complex four miles south of Kailua-Kona town and one mile north of Keauhou (a golfers' haven).
Your two-story Kona Beach House is about 15-yards (meters) from the surf; and the crashing waves on the lava and beach are best experienced from our two large lanais. You can watch the surfers, the sunsets, or just look at the turquoise blue Pacific Ocean where dolphins and whales swim. With a nearly constant temperature in the 80s, and a cool ocean breeze, your oceanfront Kona Beach House is a tropical dream.
It is ideal for multi-generation family vacations.
The oceanfront, two-story, 2000 square-foot house has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and can comfortably accommodate up to 6 people. The main level includes a bedroom/study with two twin beds, full bathroom, kitchen, dining area, and spacious living room that opens to the main lanai with its dramatic Pacific Ocean view. We spend most of our time at home on this gorgeous lanai!
The top level has two lovely bedroom suites. The large master bedroom has a king bed and its own private lanai overlooking the ocean – an incredible view. The second bedroom has two extra-long twin-beds (that can be made into a second king-bed, if desired). Each bedroom has its own private bathroom.
As this is a tropical home with open-air louvered windows and strategically placed ceiling fans, there is no need for air conditioning - the nearly constant ocean trade winds fan a breeze from the ocean during the day and from the mountains at night.
Your Kona Beach House is RIGHT ON THE OCEAN! Just steps away is a “private” ocean swimming and snorkeling cove with live coral, undersea caves, and magnificent fish & turtles. (Note: we recommend only experienced ocean swimmers enter this cove as sometimes the surf and surge can be harmful to beginners.)
Additionally, there are two great beaches on Ali'i Drive. The first, Magic Sands/White Sands Beach, is a five minute stroll from the house, and is good for swimming and boogie boarding or board & body surfing. The second, Kahalu'u Beach, a ten minute walk, usually calm & safe, is great for snorkeling (and shore-entry scuba), and has green sea turtles that can be found feeding and sunning themselves.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! We spent 2 full weeks at "Your Kona Beach House" & everything was just perfect. Mike answered my info request by phone within an hour of my submitting it. He continued to be responsive whenever I e-mailed. His son Dave, also attentive, took over the correspondence during our stay in Kona as Mike was vacationing in Sweden. The listing description & photos accurately portrayed the home. The pool was right outside the door, & the ocean & it's magnificent sunsets, just beyond. We did not snorkel out front, but saw people out there every day. It also seemed to be a favorite spot for the spinner dolphins who entertained us daily. We were there with our son & daughter in law who were celebrating their 20th anniversary, & our grandson's 12th birthday. We all had plenty of space & appreciated that each bedroom had a bathroom. Our form of enjoyment was going to the Farmer's Markets, out for lunch, driving to Waimea, etc. The kids were more adventuresome & went horseback riding at Paniolo Stables, zip-lining near Hawi, & a 2 hour helicopter ride out of Waikaloa. The luau at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel was the best & most authentic we'd ever been to. Mahalo, Mike, Dave & families for sharing your beautiful home with us. We would definitely recommend it to friends & relatives. Aloha!

What a wonderful stay and a wonderful home. My wife and I, my son his wife and their 2 -year old had plenty of room in this spacious home. The views were spectacular and the house spotless. Everything was convenient from the pizza place up the road to the grill on the deck. The pool and hot tube in the common area was great. The owner, Mike and his wife, called to welcome us and walk us through the house so we'd know where everything was. It was much appreciated. Kona itself was a nice walk away from the house. All in all we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. I recommend it and I hope to go back next year.

Your Kona Beach House
The house is wonderful. The views are to die for. It is great having the pool right outside your hale. The kitchen is wonderful with everything you need. I have mobility problems and having the bedroom on the second for was challenging but I knew this going in. The master bath is fantastic with a large shower with a seat. I brought portable suction cup grab bars that made it safer for me. There are 3 steps to get in and once you are in there are 2 steps to the main living area. The downstairs bath is down 2 steps from the main living area in the entry. I don't recommend this house for someone mobility challenged but for all others it is wonderful. Having beach towels, coolers, beach mats, boogie boards and many other like items available is fantastic. The house is one of twelve in a gated community which is great. Sunsets from the pool deck are fabulous. We saw 2 green flashes while we were there. Overall a wonderful stay.

Very Relaxing and Pleasant Stay
Very Relaxing and Pleasant Stay
We had a very relaxing 11 day stay at the Kona Onenalo beach house. The design of the house takes advantage of the ocean breezes and views. Great sleeping with the pounding surf and cool breezes. Everything you need to cook or grill is available and eating on the lanai was great. Great airflow through the house so no AC necessary. Wifi and TV worked reliably. Boogie boards and beach towels/mats were available to use as well as coolers. Snorkel gear needs replacement. Great view of Magic Sands beach although in December there are big waves so the sand goes away revealing big rocks and comes back later when the surf is calm - that's why it's magic! This particular condo home sits off of Ali'i drive a bit and with the car port and surf sound you cannot hear the traffic noise like you can with many ocean front houses along Ali'i drive. Very nice common area with pool and spa - used them a few times - pool is not heated so it is colder than the ocean. Grounds well maintained. The pictures displayed are exactly how it is. No issues with the business end of the transaction and the owners were very easy to work with. I would stay here again and highly recommend this beach house.

incredible place, highly recommended
incredible place, highly recommended
We stayed at the Kona Beach House for 19 days in September and October of 2012. It is right next to the ocean and the views are outstanding and we never grew tired of watching and listening the ocean. We had many of our meals on the main floor Lani with its great view of the water. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed making it very easy to cook for ourselves. We were just a few miles from town where there are lots of restaurants and places to shop. There are plenty of things to do nearby such as snorkeling, fishing / whale watching, submarine ride, beach and a coffee farm. Our kids who were 3 and 4 years old at the time loved swimming in the pool which is just a few steps from the Lani. The pool is fenced in and there is a fence running around the property so the kids could not get access without us to the pool or ocean. I was in contact with the owners over the course of our visit and they are first rate and really want to make sure your stay in their beautiful home is a good one. We would certainly recommend this property to anybody.

You cannot fail staying at this place. Great location, right at the beach, close to shopping, restaurants and activities. Spacious beach house with pool and plenty of room for 6 to stay. Secure gated access and easy parking. It is clean and well maintained. Great kitchen, my wife said it's like home everything is there. The view is outstanding and the picture on this web site represents the place well.

Outstanding Vacation Rental
Outstanding Vacation Rental
My family and I stayed at this rental home for 10 days in April 2012 and it was WONDERFUL! We travel a lot and have stayed at numerous rental homes around the Hawaiian islands, and this home has been our favorite. Many rentals are 'sterile' - you can tell that the owners don't put a lot of effort into it. (For example, the kitchen will have just the bare necessities and the furniture and decor feels sterile.) However, this rental feels like a lovely Hawaiian home. It has everything you will need in the kitchen and around the house. You can tell the owners 'care'. And you actually feel like you are in Hawaii with the furniture and decor that the owners have chosen. Everything was clean and well kept. And it was even better than the photos! We loved sitting outside on the Lanai for all our meals and watching the dolphins, the outrigger canoes and paddle boarders go by. And it was easy to have the pool right in front so we could keep an eye on the kids from the Lanai. Because the house is so open and airy it feels great inside. It is right next to a great snorkeling area (where we saw turtles, an eel and lots of fish), and just beyond that is Magic Sands beach where we hung out with the kids. You will definitely need a car to see all the sights, but we really liked our location - close enough to get to everything easily, but far enough that you are away from the hustle and bustle. Basically, we had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend staying here! Mike was great to work with and was very helpful with all our questions. And he gave great recommendations on where to eat and what to do. To sum up: we had no complaints - everything was great - the house was perfect! We loved it and want to go back!

One week in Kona
One week in Kona
We spent a week at the Kona Beach House in August 2011. There was so much to love about the property. The location was perfect. From the kitchen window the ocean is about 50 feet away and there were views from many rooms, including from both lanais. It is a compact community of homes, the grounds are very well kept, the swimming pool was terrific and it abuts volcanic rocks with the ocean right there. A post card scene! There is a lot of good snorkeling nearby and a nice beach Magic Sands walking distance. The house was a good floor plan for us. We were a married couple and 3 adult kids. 3 bathrooms was helpful. The kitchen was well stocked with all the stuff one needs to cook, and we cooked many meals taking advantage of the local offerings we don't get back home. The things that do not get a happy face though are only a couple. The house is a bit tired and could use some updating. The wallpaper was peeling in several rooms, a number of the window screens were torn and needed to be replaced, or just did not fit properly. Our biggest negative issue though was cockroaches. We understand this is the tropics and there will be bugs, but not to the extent that were in the home. There were at least 40 dead roaches in various places, and I called the owner's son, Dave, and he explained that the maintenance guy had sprayed a few days prior to our arrival but apparently did not return to pick up the critters. Dave was very responsive and had the maintenance guy come back and pick them up. Not trying to be fussy but he did not get nearly all of them, and then of course we had a few more live ones visit us. My conclusion which I communicated with Dave is the maintenance guy's standards are not up to that of the renters of the home, which is disappointing to me.

Owner response: Yes, we had a surprising – and serious -- problem during Doug’s visit. We have owned the house for seven years and never had a beetle problem! We had to have two visits from a professional pest control firm before and two visits after Doug’s visit to eliminate the bugs – named American Beetles. We just left the house after a two-week glorious visit, and didn’t see a single beetle. Following Doug’s experience we also replaced the maintenance man, fixed some screens, and will have the problem wallpaper replaced in January 2012. Thank you, Doug, for pointing these out to us, and we are sorry that you had the experience with the beetles. Mike & Gunnel
The house is very comfortable and the neighbors were so quiet you would think no one else was around. The location was almost right on the ocean and just a short drive to the beach or downtown Kona. We were a little hesitant at first about not having an air conditioner but with the windows and doors open it stayed quite pleasant. Mike the owner is very accommodating and helpful, whether it’s about the house of where to get a good bite to eat. I don't like to visit the same place twice but if I did I would definitely stay here again. Another thing I will mention is that you don't have to worry about getting scammed or not getting your security deposit back, that is always one of my biggest fears but it is definitely not an issue here. Thanks for all your help Mike!

Great Vacation Home
Great Vacation Home
We rented this property in November of 2010 and had an excellent time. The home was beautiful and well maintained. The owners were very helpful. The location was nice. Close to Magic Sands, just a quick walk and a short drive to the snorkeling beach. Our kids ages 9 and 11 had a great time at both places. Being right on the water was very relaxing and beautiful. We stayed 5 nights and still felt that we had much more fun to be had. We would recommend this place to our friends and family.

About the owner: YourKonaBeachHouse is our second home! We offer it as a vacation rental when we aren't using it and you will love the location, tropical-surroundings, house, and decor as your second home -- in Hawaii. The Owners are the Weiner family -- Mike, Gunnel, Karin, Sean, David and Liz. When not in Kona, we live in Los Angeles.
Why the Owner Chose Kona Onenalo:
Our house is one of 12 free-standing, 2000 sq-ft houses on a point of land protruding into the Pacific Ocean. It is truly unique -- it could not be built today because the house is too close to the ocean by present codes. The 12-houses are in a gated community with good parking, and our house is far from Ali'i Drive so that there is no street-noise. Since all of the owners are also using the houses as second homes, and only a few provide them as vacation rentals as we do, the community typically has only 2-4 of the homes occupied at any one time -- so tranquility is assured,
The Unique Benefits at this House:
While enjoying the beauty of the surroundings, my guests and I have difficult choices to make each day: Putting on snorkel-gear and walking through our private gate into the water of our '4-mile cove', full of coral, fish, and turtles -- so appealing that the dive and snorkel boats often bring their customers. Or, strolling 100-yards to the popular White Sands (or Magic Sands) beach for swimming, boogie boarding, surfing, or just sunning. Often we do both of these, and finish the day in our pool and jacussi -- and enjoy drinks and a barbeque dinner on our lanai at sunset.
