"The blue Pacific Ocean, seen from the upstairs lanai, awaits you."
Location: Kona Onenalo, Kailua-Kona, Kona Coast, Big Island, Hawaii, USA (30-min. south of Kona Airport, at 4-mile-marker on Ali'i Dr.) View Map
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 3 Baths (Sleeps 6)
Keywords: Private House, Oceanfront, Kona Onenalo, Onenalo
Your Kona Beach House sits on the point of a bay with lush tropical landscaping, flowers and palm-trees surrounding a swimming pool and jacuzzi/spa. The serenity is not marred by street-noise or house-parties. Situated at Kona Onenalo: a gated 12-home complex four miles south of Kailua-Kona town and one mile north of Keauhou (a golfers' haven).
Your two-story Kona Beach House is about 15-yards (meters) from the surf; and the crashing waves on the lava and beach are best experienced from our two large lanais. You can watch the surfers, the sunsets, or just look at the turquoise blue Pacific Ocean where dolphins and whales swim. With a nearly constant temperature in the 80s, and a cool ocean breeze, your oceanfront Kona Beach House is a tropical dream.
It is ideal for multi-generation family vacations.
The oceanfront, two-story, 2000 square-foot house has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and can comfortably accommodate up to 6 people. The main level includes a bedroom/study with two twin beds, full bathroom, kitchen, dining area, and spacious living room that opens to the main lanai with its dramatic Pacific Ocean view. We spend most of our time at home on this gorgeous lanai!
The top level has two lovely bedroom suites. The large master bedroom has a king bed and its own private lanai overlooking the ocean – an incredible view. The second bedroom has two extra-long twin-beds (that can be made into a second king-bed, if desired). Each bedroom has its own private bathroom.
As this is a tropical home with open-air louvered windows and strategically placed ceiling fans, there is no need for air conditioning - the nearly constant ocean trade winds fan a breeze from the ocean during the day and from the mountains at night.
Your Kona Beach House is RIGHT ON THE OCEAN! Just steps away is a “private” ocean swimming and snorkeling cove with live coral, undersea caves, and magnificent fish & turtles. (Note: we recommend only experienced ocean swimmers enter this cove as sometimes the surf and surge can be harmful to beginners.)
Additionally, there are two great beaches on Ali'i Drive. The first, Magic Sands/White Sands Beach, is a five minute stroll from the house, and is good for swimming and boogie boarding or board & body surfing. The second, Kahalu'u Beach, a ten minute walk, usually calm & safe, is great for snorkeling (and shore-entry scuba), and has green sea turtles that can be found feeding and sunning themselves.

Your Kona Beach House - an Oceanfront Tropical Paradise!
Year Purchased: 2004
Why the Owner Chose Kona Onenalo
Our house is one of 12 free-standing, 2000 sq-ft houses on a point of land protruding into the Pacific Ocean. It is truly unique -- it could not be built today because the house is too close to the ocean by present codes. The 12-houses are in a gated community with good parking, and our house is far from Ali'i Drive so that there is no street-noise. Since all of the owners are also using the houses as second homes, and only a few provide them as vacation rentals as we do, the community typically has only 2-4 of the homes occupied at any one time -- so tranquility is assured,
The Unique Benefits at this House
While enjoying the beauty of the surroundings, my guests and I have difficult choices to make each day: Putting on snorkel-gear and walking through our private gate into the water of our "4-mile cove", full of coral, fish, and turtles -- so appealing that the dive and snorkel boats often bring their customers. Or, strolling 100-yards to the popular White Sands (or Magic Sands) beach for swimming, boogie boarding, surfing, or just sunning. Often we do both of these, and finish the day in our pool and jacussi -- and enjoy drinks and a barbeque dinner on our lanai at sunset.

One week in Kona

We spent a week at the Kona Beach House in August 2011. There was so much to love about the property. The location was perfect. From the kitchen window the ocean is about 50 feet away and there were views from many rooms, including from both lanais. It is a compact community of homes, the grounds are very well kept, the swimming pool was terrific and it abuts volcanic rocks with the ocean right there. A post card scene! There is a lot of good snorkeling nearby and a nice beach Magic Sands walking distance. The house was a good floor plan for us. We were a married couple and 3 adult kids. 3 bathrooms was helpful. The kitchen was well stocked with all the stuff one needs to cook, and we cooked many meals taking advantage of the local offerings we don't get back home. The things that do not get a happy face though are only a couple. The house is a bit tired and could use some updating. The wallpaper was peeling in several rooms, a number of the window screens were torn and needed to be replaced, or just did not fit properly. Our biggest negative issue though was cockroaches. We understand this is the tropics and there will be bugs, but not to the extent that were in the home. There were at least 40 dead roaches in various places, and I called the owner's son, Dave, and he explained that the maintenance guy had sprayed a few days prior to our arrival but apparently did not return to pick up the critters. Dave was very responsive and had the maintenance guy come back and pick them up. Not trying to be fussy but he did not get nearly all of them, and then of course we had a few more live ones visit us. My conclusion which I communicated with Dave is the maintenance guy's standards are not up to that of the renters of the home, which is disappointing to me.
Owner response:Yes, we had a surprising – and serious -- problem during Doug’s visit. We have owned the house for seven years and never had a beetle problem! We had to have two visits from a professional pest control firm before and two visits after Doug’s visit to eliminate the bugs – named American Beetles. We just left the house after a two-week glorious visit, and didn’t see a single beetle. Following Doug’s experience we also replaced the maintenance man, fixed some screens, and will have the problem wallpaper replaced in January 2012. Thank you, Doug, for pointing these out to us, and we are sorry that you had the experience with the beetles. Mike & Gunnel

The house is very comfortable and the neighbors were so quiet you would think no one else was around. The location was almost right on the ocean and just a short drive to the beach or downtown Kona. We were a little hesitant at first about not having an air conditioner but with the windows and doors open it stayed quite pleasant. Mike the owner is very accommodating and helpful, whether it’s about the house of where to get a good bite to eat. I don't like to visit the same place twice but if I did I would definitely stay here again. Another thing I will mention is that you don't have to worry about getting scammed or not getting your security deposit back, that is always one of my biggest fears but it is definitely not an issue here. Thanks for all your help Mike!

We rented this property in November of 2010 and had an excellent time. The home was beautiful and well maintained. The owners were very helpful. The location was nice. Close to Magic Sands, just a quick walk and a short drive to the snorkeling beach. Our kids ages 9 and 11 had a great time at both places. Being right on the water was very relaxing and beautiful. We stayed 5 nights and still felt that we had much more fun to be had. We would recommend this place to our friends and family.

An ideal home and location for our first visit to the Big Island with 3 generations (children and grandparents). Mike was terrific to work with in setting up the rental and following through after we arrived. We found things to be as described on the website. We are literally feet away from the surf, walking distance to White Sands Beach and a very short (1 mi) ride to a great snorkeling beach. There are spectacular views of the sunset from the living room, outside decks, and pool area. The furnishings are tasteful and comfortable with all the amenities of home and then some (beach gear). The location is great for getting into Kona (4 mi) and the nearby Farmer's Market is a great source of the freshest island fruits. For runners and cyclists, Ali'i Drive is right there. We were able to tour various parts of the Big Island - north to the Kohala beaches, south to the coffee farms and Place of Refuge, east to Hilo, Mauna Kea, and Volcano National Park. The latter 3 are a bit of a drive, but then again, it is a "Big Island"! We would be thrilled to come back.

the kona beach house was all we had hoped for, dolphins swimming in front of us as we sat on the lanai, house fully equipped, close to all the activities--perfect jumping off point, perfect sitting point!!! Mike and gunnell were wonderful to work with, checked in to see if everything was ok, one minor repair was fixed immediately with little fuss!!! very accommodating to our requests. we would definitely come here again. One small thing the pool closes at 7pm, we thought that was a little early, but no big thing!!! lovely home and owners!!

For my 40th birthday, I decided to gather four of my closest friends and spend a week in Kailua-Kona where I used to live. From the moment I walked into the Kona Onenalo complex and opened the lanai doors on this house, I knew I had made the right decision. The house was plenty big for five people and the amenities were just what we needed (minus WiFi but we brought our own Apple Airport for that). We enjoyed several meals in the house itself thanks to the cooking facilities and the large lanai. Eating outdoors in Hawai'i is an experience everyone should have. And the view from the kitchen!! Amazing. Add to this the community pool and hot tub and the proximity to the ocean and we had a stellar time here. The owners were responsive and interested in our feedback about the house. I highly recommend "Your Kona Beach House."
