Our Mansion in Manhattan.
Location: Upper East Side, Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA (Near Metropolitan Museum, Guggenheim, Gracie Mansion & parks)
Accommodations: Townhome, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 8-10)
Keywords: Townhouse Triplex
Ah, the Upper East Side!
From the edge of Central Park at 59th Street to the top of Museum Mile at El Museo del Barrio at 105th Street, this is New York City's Gold Coast. The neighborhood air is perfumed with the scent of old money and glamorous sophistication, with Champagne corks popping and high society puttin' on the Ritz. With its world-famous museums, elite schools, luxury boutiques, and proximity to Central Park, the family-oriented Upper East Side is home to some of the city's richest residents.
We have decided to rent our Upper East Side Townhouse.
Our spectacular four-bedroom triplex apartment is now available for rent by the week or by the month. Let me describe it to you:
When first you enter the enormous living room, you will be dazzled by the Italian fresco on the high ceiling (an homage to Grand Central Station’s restoration) framing a huge antique Venetian chandelier. In the center of the living room stands a working Vermont-marble fireplace with a French Empire mirror hanging over the mantle. Look out the window and view the 1000+ square foot, multi-level private garden with 5 person hot-tub spa.
Relax on the new celadon sofa or the matching loveseat with built in his & hers recliners, while listening to Mozart on the stereo or watching the evening news (or World Series?) on the 50” Panasonic Plasma TV set. (There are also handy DVD and separate VHS players). Not enough room for your company to sit? Well, there is also an Art Deco sofa between the 8 foot high windows.
Our open kitchen looks out over our dining room, large enough for sit-down dinners for 10 or more. The art deco Heywood Wakefield dining set beautifully complements the new hardwood floors. And there is a wood-burning fireplace in the dining room, too!
The primary master bedroom overlooks the garden and has a private entrance to the garden via the spa room. This bedroom has a 25 foot wall of built in closets and dresser in addition to the lovely new bleached wood furnishings and original wrought iron bed.
The second master bedroom is off the living room and shares its 15 foot ceiling height. This bedroom has an enormous 8 foot by 4 foot sunny window facing south, and boasts a Venetian chandelier and a Vermont marble fireplace.
In addition to this, there is a third child’s room together with a separate family/playroom/4th bedroom in the finished basement level, with a door and window to the garden.
And, of course, there is a separate private laundry room for your exclusive use.
We have a similar luxurious four bedroom apartment also available, as well as a more modest one bedroom apartment. We urge you to ask for futher information.
Relaxing after exploring the city!

New York City is truly the city that never sleeps! As soon as we landed, my friends & I were in awe of the streets lined with skyscrapers, the colorful autumn leaves in Central Park and the glittery lights of Times Square. We could not wait to get out on the town and experience everything the Big Apple had to offer.
When we arrived at the townhouse on the Upper East Side, we were greeted at the door by the housekeeper who graciously showed us around and made us feel right at home. We knew we’d be very comfortable during our visit as the townhome’s spacious four bedroom floor plan gave us each a room of our own. The fully-stocked kitchen was very convenient when we didn’t feel like eating out. The spacious living room upstairs with the large flat screen TV was a relaxing common space for sitting around and chatting. The attention to detail on the beautiful marble fireplace and the upper floor’s vaulted ceiling was incredible and we felt like we were staying in a true architectural work-of-art. Every morning, we took our coffee out on the back patio and enjoyed the New York breeze. After a long day of sightseeing, there was even a hot tub available for soaking my weary paws.
We loved staying on the Upper East Side as the neighborhood felt very safe and the local residents were friendly to tourists. With so many cafés, restaurants, shops and grocery stores within walking distance, we did not have to travel far to enjoy ourselves. The townhome was just 5 blocks away from Central Park, where we strolled the scenic tree-lined pathways and watched various street performers. All of New York’s most popular attractions including Times Square, The Statue of Liberty, The Empire State Building, and Rockefeller Plaza were easily accessible via the subway.
New York City was such an exhilarating city to visit that I’m already planning another trip there next year. This Rocky Mountain Bear just loves the excitement of the big city and I know you will too. But don’t just take my word for it; go experience it yourself!

I booked the house in Feb 2011 and im so glad i did. 16 ladies stayed in the house for my 40th birthday we flew out on the 31st August and left on the 4th september.Wow what a place, the house was clean and tidy and well equipped with every thing we needed.we were greeted by a very nice young man who showed us round. We couldn't take it all in at first because it was so big there were so many rooms but we soon got the hang of it. It was lovely to be all together in the morning for breakfast and to have a drink and relax in the garedn after a long day of siteseeing. The area was lovely and quiet just a short 15 min walk to the tube(sub) station, we found a lovely dinner called Big Daddies which did the most amazing food and shakes. The shops around this area were good one of the girls had her nails done in a nail bar and about 5 of us bought Ugg boots and Converse trainers for a very good price. We all said we wish we had more time in New York if only to relax a bit more at the house. If I go back to NY i would definitely stay in the house than a hotel room.Thank you Jane for renting us your house.

My family and I had our daughter's wedding in Central Park and guests came from England, Florida and Vermont and stayed at this beautiful mansion. It was the perfect place for everyone.! Large enough and private enough that all the guests didn't get in each others way! Great location, beautiful surroundings, comfortable accommodations, spotlessly clean, great outdoor backyard. It was the perfect place for a weddingWe couldn't have asked for anything better! Thank you sharing your lovely mansion with us!

Myself and 3 friends stayed in the Duplex for a week commencing April 2011. The Duplex apartment has everything you could want and is brilliantly located to Central Park and transportation. I have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation to anybody who wanted to stay in New York it is just brilliant. If I am ever in New York again this is the only place on my list to stay. One friend was sceptical when I booked the accommodation but since returning home is full of praise for the apartment and its location.
Owner response:Thank you ever so much for your kind words. We really do try to help our guests make their New York City visits an adventure, and it is always a tremendous pleasure to receive a letter like yours telling us that we have succeeded. While we do not have the ability to offer an entire roster of hotel services, we always love to help our guests get to know trhe city, recommending such things as good local restaurants and places to get discounted theater tickets weeks in advance. Having been born and raised in Manhattan, we can offer a point of view that few, if any, can match. Lloyd and I hope to see you again next year, and look forward to meeting new and exciting pepole like you in the future..

My family of six (four boys) enjoyed our lovely stay in the city. The place is welcoming with lots of room! Two queens, one full and three twins provided plenty of room. The whimsical stained glass chandelier became our favorite room to relax in. Washer/dryer was used nightly to save on packing. Only three blocks from the nearest subway. Off the subway there is name brand shopping. Just walking over one block, the neighborhood feel was quiet with grocery/coffee/beverage store within five minutes. A bargain compared to a stiff hotel room.
Owner response:Thank you for your kind words. Lloyd and I are so pleased you loved our Venetian chandelier. Lloyd's family is from Venice. and that chandelier has been in his family for many generations. 50 years ago, in fact, it hung in a Venetian Palazzo. We always try tp anticipate the needs of our guests and that is one reason why we had a full size washer and dryer installed. After all, who wants to bring home dirty laundry in their luggage? Ugh! We thank you for your lovely letter, and hope that we shall meet again some day soon.

I am a travel agent who just spent two nights in your " 4 bedroom" apartment. You misrepresent this apartment offering it as a 4 bedroom as there are only two bedrooms and then a room in an unfinished basement with no windows, one bed and two VERY uncomfortable single cots in an open unfinished area with no closets, poor lighting, and no privacy. Bathrooms are in terrible shape. If there were only two couples in the unit they may never go to the basement an find it a more favorable exerience, but I don't know where 10 people would sleep. Very disappointing stay confirming my doubts of ever suggesting the VRBO site to clients due to the inconsistencies in quality and the misrepresentation of properties.
Owner response:We were surprised to receive this review given the fact that anonymous never once called us, our housekeepers or our handyman to complain about anything during her 4 day visit. Hers is the ONLY anonymous review we have ever had. Even her identification as www (Canada) is untrue because she gave us a California address. It is highly inappropriate to post a malicious review and then hide behind anonymity so you cannot be held accountable for your spiteful words. On to the review. 1. all our sites and letters point out that: “…there is a third child’s room together with a separate family/playroom/4th bedroom in the finished basement level, with a door and window to the garden.” Why anonymous failed to see the door or window to the garden is beyond me. None of my other guests have ever complained about that. Our basement is very nicely finished, with powder blue paint and white trim, some original Italian artwork, a full closet that anonymous also missed, and OAK PARQUET floors. In addition, the day bed in the family room was quite expensive, with new Posturepedic mattresses. This bed may be used as a twin or opened into a king. The 4th bedroom has twin beds also with Posturepedic mattresses. We have no cots in the building. I don’t know where anonymous saw them. Perhaps elsewhere. Unexpected guests sleep on the convertible sofa in the living room. As far as the lighting is concerned, most of our guests have found our track lighting too bright and have asked us to turn it down. 2. Our literature is quite clear; the duplex is advertised to sleep 10; the garden triplex is advertised to sleep 8, which it comfortably does. 3. There is no need to comment on our custom marble bathroom since most of our previous guests have already done so quite positively. 4. We always meet our guests to show them around the apartment and demonstrate how everything works. Anonymous refused the tour because she had a taxi waiting for her at our door. 5. Every numerical review we have received has been 5 stars. Even VRBO itself said in its review that “the townhome’s spacious four bedroom floor plan gave us each a room of our own.” The reviewer said “we felt like we were staying in a true architectural work-of-art.” Please read this review. We do not edit nor omit reviews we do not like. We just let the facts speak for themselves. Please come and visit with us yourselves to see what a warm New York City welcome we can provide. Sincerely, Jane and Lloyd

Dear Jane and Lloyd. Thank you for making our trip to Manhattan even more perfect! We stayed in the duplex. The area is fairly quiet. The apartment was clean, the rooms were fine. Good beds. Bathrooms were okay but not great luxury. We had a guided tour through the Triplex by their tenants and here was a really well finished bathroom. The dining room was also very cute in the triplex. In The Duplex is the dining room into a bedroom which is not so fun. We had a big flatscreen tv and computer and free wifi that was perfect to Skype home. Photos on vrbo-site are almost exclusively of the Triplex. Additional photos of the duplex is best to ask Jane & Lloyd, they are very quick and helpful in answering emails! In the close neighborhood was not so much to do. 24/7-grocery @ 86th and 1st Av. Close to subway @ 86th & Lexinton, + / - 10 minutes walk. We ate at BXL Cafe 210 East 51st Street and Jacques at 85th. Very nice French and Belgian cuisine. The weather was beautiful, we saw in Madisson Square Garden the Knicks lose, unfortunately, but later that week we saw a great performance of The Kings Of Leon. Statue of Liberty, The Rock, Empire State Building, The Entrepid, Central Park, Times Square, Fifth Avenue, Museum of Natural History, so much to do, so little time! Thanks for the nice apartment. In 2012 we will come back! John Mayo was a friendly and helpful host. I would definitely recommend the duplex and even more the Triplex to friends! See ya in 2012!

Dear Jane, Apologies for not writing sooner to tell you what a great time we had at your place in NY! The boys had a ball, and, as one of their mothers told us, this is one of those vacations they'll remember forever. We went to shows, had a picnic in Central Park, saw the Yankees beat the Blue Jays on July 4th (and the boys' names were up on the fan marquee); we took the Staten Island Ferry, ate in Chinatown, shopped in SoHo; toured Columbia and NYU (now they all want to study in NY!)...we didn't leave much undone, that's for sure. Your place was great...wonderful neighborhood--the kind where I had no concerns about sending the boys out for bagels, or fruit, or a paper. Plenty of room too--everyone had their own bed. So thanks again! I'm writing today to ask about your other place--the apartment upstairs. My husband and I (it might just be me) are thinking about coming back for 3-5 days in November (most likely in the time period of Nov 11-15) --couple days on Long Island and a couple in NYC...can you tell me about the other space, and whether or not it might be available? This is all tentative at this point (who knows, maybe we'll end up in Vegas, but I'd like to get back to NYC before the year is out), but it would help to know if you have something available for just one or two of us at most. Look foward to hearing from you soon--and hope your summer is going well! Betty
