Located on the scenic route between Cashel and Kilkenny in County Tipperary, this beautiful period home was built in 1886 by request of his Grace Dr Croke, Archbishop of Cashel and Emly and served as the parish priest's house for the village of Ballingarry for over 100 years.
In 2008 it was completely refurbished and transformed into a stunning holiday residence with beautiful chandeliers and antique furniture. With accommodation for 11 guests the Old Parochial House offers visitors a truly unique experience in a luxurious self-catering home.

We were impressed by the house as soon as we walked in the front door. The interior is beautiful and bright. We were particularly amazed by the substantial rooms and the huge bathrooms. The property was clean and well maintained. The welcome groceries that you provided were a very pleasant surprise. The location is quiet and peaceful, but is an excellent base to travel all over the southern part of Ireland. We really appreciated the referrals for places to eat. The food was great in all of the recommended spots. And the kitchen was very well equipped so it was easy to make dinner on the one night we chose to stay in. Our family stayed here for a week celebrating my parents 50th anniversary! It was perfect. There were 9 of us. Lots of room, nicely appointed, and the perfect base to see southern Ireland. I would and will recommend the Old Parochial House to everyone looking to rent a home in the Irish countryside, The owners were friendly and very approachable. The photos do not do justice to this beautiful house.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

What an amazing house to spend our 40th Wedding Anniversary! Together with all our family and came as a complete surprise. We had no idea where we were going. The 'craic' it has been great! The nights, they have been late! The days they have been long - and filled with guinness and song. We leave with heavy hearts, not wishing to depart. Beautiful old house set in the countryside near a little village. Arrived on a freezing, icy night to find the heating on and a welcome pack of goodies. Immaculately kept - clean and well resourced. We were a group of 8 (4 couples) travelling together and the house was spacious to accommodate us all comfortably. We self-catered and there is a huge, modern kitchen to work in. All-in-all excellent value with the cost spread between the 8 of us. Would like to go back at a warmer time so we could get out and explore more of Ireland.Did you find this review helpful? We were absolutely delighted with the house. It ticked all the boxes - suited all ages - acommodation excellent bedrooms very comfortable - plenty of bathrooms - kitchen very well equipped - outside space and gardens were an absolute joy - grandchildren torn between the hammocks in the garden and the river at the bottom of the garden - wd highly recommend it for a holiday fo all ages.Did you find this review helpful? Our group consisted of 6 adults and 4 children. The house was perfect. Everything about it was quality and comfort. The location is excellent and close to all the major tourist attractions in Tipperary and Cork as well as Killkenny. Located in a friendly village with all necessities close at hand. About the owner: Hi, we're Donal and Aileen and we're lucky enough to own this beautiful and historic home. We live near Cahir in Tipperary, about 40 minutes away from the house and have two beautiful little children - Tom and Iris.
Why the Owner Chose Thurles:
The Old Parochial House came up for sale just before we were married in August 2006. We both grew up within 3 miles of the property and knew that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase such a special property. It had served as the parish Priest's house for many years so was one of the most iconic and fine houses around.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This is a stunning listed period home with carved staircase and two original stained glass windows. The rooms are huge with 13ft ceilings and most have fire places. It is situated on 1.5 acres of mature grounds with old apple trees and stone walls. The King's River flows by the bottom of the garden and because it's just 10 miles for the M8 motorway it is perfectly located for exploring all of Southern Ireland.
