Welcome to Bambooshay, St. John! (formerly "Coconut Cottage")
“Bambooshay” is a Creole word that means “enjoy yourself; have a good time.” Coined during Carnival season in the 1950’s, the word originates from “Bambula,” an old African dance that is carried out today through a unique “second line” dance that is performed to the beat of traditional New Orleans jazz. Revelers during carnival today are often heard yelling out “Bambooshay!” as they partake in the festivities of the season.
In a single word, Bambooshay embodies the spirit and attitude that we have found from the Caribbean to New Orleans, and we truly hope you will enjoy yourself and have a great time on St. John. Bambooshay!
Guests arrive at Cruz Bay, where the ferry docks, and will need to rent a car to continue on to the privacy of the villa.
Two roads beckon. The North Shore Road, which winds past Trunk Bay and many other tropical beaches that are ideal for snorkeling and swimming, and Centerline Road, which winds along the highlands, offering vistas of Coral Bay and the British Virgin Islands.
Built for two, the villa has one bedroom (and a self-inflating mattress for an additional visitor), a living room and a modern bath. The kitchen is equipped with a gas range, BBQ grill, refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster and blender and is stocked with pots and pans. Ceiling fans and French doors keep the interior cool.
Perhaps best of all, the villa has an expansive deck with an outdoor shower, and is great for al fresco dining, sunbathing, star gazing or getting a massage. A big hammock for two provides a good place for napping, reading or enjoying the view.
If you feel more like exploring, take an easy 8-minute walk down Seagrape Hill to enjoy the restaurants and shops of Coral Bay. Hike along the nearby Johnny Horn Trail or visit the Moravian church at the foot of Seagrape Hill. The St. John National Park's beaches are just a short drive away.
Book your trip today. St. John awaits you.

Positive Rating
It was just the right size for us - and how refreshing it was to have no TV. Yay! The view was spectacular, and that hammock could induce comas, I swear. Ahhh. We also loved Coral Bay, the food, snorkeling, people, pace, etc. What a great spot. Those beaches were amazing! Anyway, we loved St. John. What a special place. It was a great vacation--thanks!
