Experience a truly unique vacation on this ecologically-protected barrier island in South Carolina in a private home published by Better, Homes and Garden, June 2002 issue. It is a "one-of-a-kind" home that provides a "low-country" experience.

Hunting Island is a pristine island that belongs to the Park Service of South Carolina. Deer roam free on the beach where Loggerhead turtles still lay their eggs. Osprey and painted buntings are spotted daily in the summer months.

You will enjoy a beautiful home on a natural beach, a mature maritime forest that includes 200-year-old live oaks, breathtaking salt-water marshes, sand dunes, and an ocean view with sunrises that are sometimes beyond description.

Best of all, it is just a great place to get away, enjoy the warmth of your family and friends, your privacy, and "low country" customs.

The upstairs is all the original hardwood, which will bring back nostalgia memories of past visits to beach houses when you were young. But, we have added modern conveniences such as dishwasher, jacuzzi bath tub (overlooking the beach), enclosed outside hot/cold shower, TV with basic cable, etc. The kitchen opens up into the dining area that is surrounded by windows overlooking our open deck hosting a 200 year old oak tree right THROUGH the deck. The children will love to climb on the tree while you are eating at the picnic table or lounging in the adirondack chairs. For romantic getaways, leave the sliding doors to the jacuzzi tub open and enjoy a nice bubble bath while overlooking the serene ocean landscape or for families, this tub provides easy access to bathing young children while you can still enjoy the views or visiting with the rest of the family! As you move to your left, the dining room opens into the living room where you can enjoy gathering together again as you are overlooking the beach and ocean. On the front of the house is the 4th bedroom/daybed TV room. During the day, the sliding doors can be left open and the room used as overflow or quieter reading area or great nap room! If you want privacy or noise control with the TV on, the doors can be slid closed. Moving downstairs, we have 3 bedrooms. There is a King beachfront, Queen, and two sets of twin on twin bunk beds. The second full bath (tub/shower) is located here next to the washer/dryer area. If you exit the door on this ground level we have the beach access and an enclosed hot/cold shower. Personally, our family prefers to shower outside and not use the inside showers at all during our stay. This is actually better for our septic system too. The children just LOVE the concept of showering outdoors - this is something they can't do at home! Then, walk to the beach or sit on the second picnic table and watch for deer in the forest next door.
