We loved the river house!

We vacationed at the River house last August, 2010. We had our son and his fiance, my husband and myself and Bud our yellow Lab. We thought we had died and gone to heaven! The house is beautiful and so comfortable that we did not want to leave. It is happily situated on a big lot and the deck over looking the Watauga river is incredible. The bedrooms have decks to walk out on and they are beautiful. The bedrooms are so comfortable and have TV's in each of them. The living room was where we hung out the most along with playing pool and ping pong in the garage! We ate out on the deck each evening along with breakfast and lunch! There wasn't anything that we didn't love about the house and property!!!! The stores are bountiful and we even went river rafting! "Bud" loved the river and was in it as much as he could. We put him in the garage to dry off so a wet dog was not an issue! Everyone had a great time and leaving was very difficult for us. It was a magical vacation and we will be going down to the river house hopefully in July. My son is in Afghanistan and has requested the river house as he will have a two week leave. My husband and I would like to go there in the Fall as it will be beautiful! This is our review and we hope that it helps anyone who is thinking of renting the river house. Regards, Shelley

Beautiful Home and Getaway Spot

This is a beautifully furnished, well maintained, very comfortable house to vacation in. Two of the upper bedrooms look out onto the river. There are many places and decks to sit alongside the river. Plenty to do inside if the weather is not nice - pool table, ping pong table, boardgames, and books. For information on local restaurants and sightseeing, there are brochures and a looseleaf notebook that contains many menus to places only 10 minutes or so away. Large grocery store just down the road if you forget anything. Well stocked kitchen in order to eat in. My husband likes to fly fish and although the generators kept the water up too high to do much fishing right there at the house, there are other streams such as the Holston River in the area and a large lake nearby. My seven year old went fishing also and the house actually had several fishing poles, along with bait bucket and bait available. Plenty of hot water and those big, white, fluffy towels you see in the higher end hotels. The yard was also plenty big enough for our Black Lab to run in. We look forward to coming back in the future!

Hi, Lisa! We were able to drive directly to the house based on your excellent directions and, in a word, we were absolutely AMAZED at how gorgeous your house is!! It definitely is one of the hidden treasures of Tennessee, and we all were so happy to find such a beautiful house waiting for us at the end of our long drives! We very much enjoyed our long weekend and wished we could've packed up your house and brought it back with us to Virginia (and to Georgia and to Minnesota -- it was unanimous)! :D Thank you for allowing us to stay as your guests, and I hope you found everything in just as great a condition as before we arrived. I have been meaning to let you know that we had a wonderful time. Your home was perfect. My boys loved downstairs. They called it the "dungeon" and made pallets on the floor to sleep. They slept there the entire week. We went rafting twice. It was fun. We did not have any luck with fishing so we took the boys to the trout farm. We took pictures of fish and have some great "fish stories" for our neighbors. (hehe). Thank you for sharing your home with us. We plan to return.

It was just us and our two boys 6&8. The home was beautiful! It was clean, maintaned, had everything you need from a blender to extra space heaters. The owner is very nice and accomodating. I arrived and found the TV did not have many channels available, She called right away and had it fixed with in an hour. We had a wonderful time there, we even got to see snow! (in April!) We did a lot of hiking, there are several waterfalls closeby. I greatly appreciated the brochures and maps available. We visited bristol caverns, Gray fossil museum, Great expedition, grandfather mountain (NC). All were very close and worth the visit. We are already planning a return trip with another couple and their children.

Great Vacation Spot

I was amazed at how "user friendly" the house was. There were notes placed around the house that were very helpful. Spices and coffee filters and a many other things I completely forgot to bring were already there. For the things that weren't there were at least 3 grocery stores including a super Wal-Mart within 10 minutes of the location. The views were beautiful, and a handy guide of local attractions and restaurants was available if you wanted to explore the town. The house was clean and had plenty of room for our 11 guests (8 adults and 3 children). I would gladly plan another family get together at this location.

Thanks so much for getting my brother-in-laws fishing journal back to him! He called me after the Holidays and was ecstatic to have it returned. We really enjoyed being right on the river - we usually have to travel and follow the men around as they fish. This was great-we stayed right there and didn't miss a fish-no real trophy sized trout were caught, but the numbers were great 36 for the 4 days, I think. Thanks again for a great vacation-I think my husband and brother-in-law are already searching for another date to come and try for a few larger fish!

Thank you so much for the rental weekend. Your home is so nice & what a great location! We caught some great trout right off of the fishing dock but we released them so others can enjoy them later. We even got to teach a good friend's son to fly fish on Saturday & he was hooked (pardon the pun)! Again, we loved being there & enjoyed it thoroughly. This was by far the nicest and coziest home away from home get-away my Family has ever experienced! We were all fascinated at how much room there was as well as all of the different things to do, just at the house! Definetly something for everyone. The River was so beautiful, the Family fished, and the Girl's swam. The purpose of our trip was for my Husband's 50th B-day, he got to Drive around the Bristol Motor Speedway! We choose to have our Family accompany us in experiencing this awesome endeavor. Everyone was so proud I found the River House, it was positively perfect! We've stayed a lot of different cabins & homes in the NC/WV/TN area in the past 6-8 years, and I think the River House is one of the nicest we've experienced. The size and layout of the house are perfect for a large group-we never felt crowded and had plenty of space at the time that the whole family was together. The kitchen was so well-equipped that dinner for 13 people on Christmas Day was easy-we had dinner plates and silverware to spare! The downstairs "pool hall" was a popular hangout and the scene of a great tournament after Christmas dinner. The younger generation slept downstairs and we "old folks" enjoyed the quiet upstairs in the beautifully furnished bedrooms. The little hostess touches were so special-nightlights everywhere; someone might be tripping around in the dark, space heaters everywhere; someone might need a little extra boost, the wonderful fire pit that provided a cozy cookout for the whole family on a cool night, plentiful towels and blankets. Everyone had a relaxed and enjoyable time. I'm sure that if we ever have occasion to be back in the NE Tenn. area we'll be in contact with you!

We stayed in your lovely house when I returned to the area for my 50th. h.s. Reunion. What a lovely, peaceful, restful place. The house is located near everything; yet, very private and in a beautiful setting. We loved the river! Hopefully, we can return someday with our grandchildren to show them where their Gramma grew up. They would love it! Thank you for all your "special" touches which made us feel right at home. We had plenty of room with us on the main level and our guests downstairs. Lots of room to spread out and not get in each other's way. Perfect!! Thank you for sharing your house with us. Your "River House" was the most perfect place we've ever picked for a family gathering. Our concerns about space were completely unfounded, as each of our four couples had the privacy of our own bedrooms, with plenty of additional sleeping areas on those great large leather pull-out couches in the livingroom, for when we bring along more folks. All that, along with plenty of cooking facilities, both indoors and out, we used to feed our many Thanksgiving Day dinner guests. Being only minutes from downtown, it was convenient for those quick trips to the grocery store! With your big livingroom (with the wonderful fireplace) and huge gameroom with TV, wet bar and pool table, everyone could have stayed entertained right there (the kids thank you for all the games, puzzles and cards you supply). During the warm part of the day we had such fun watching the river rush by from the dock in your back yard, and watching the fly fishermen, who were enjoying the river as much as we were. We did visit charming Elizabethton's quaint historic downtown (when we weren't grocery shopping) with it's variety of small shops, and really enjoyed the beauty of the area when we drove to the near by Roan Mtn. State Park and Watauga Lake. We'll be back soon to attend a wedding and take advantage of all the other things there are to do, and this time bring along my fly fisherman brother...he'll be in seventh heaven. We all love your "River House"!

This is a great house for families! There is so much room and something to please everyone. We throughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return sometime in warmer weather to experience the river. We really enjoyed staying in your lovely home. I have lived in the area all my life and never really knew the nature of the river and found it fascinating to see all the herons, geese and water foul that visited the river. First one's in! What a perfect place - the river is so beautiful! Our stay was pleasant and our son's baseball team had a blast!
