Situated on a rock outcrop on Maple Bay, this epitome of what a seaside cottage should be has a 270-degree view of the bay. This charming and comfortable cottage is set on a third of an acre of waterfront amongst mature Rhododendrons, Azaleas, Arbutus, and Dogwood Trees. The ocean side of the property has been left in its natural state, sloping down to a private rocky beach with rocky outcrops on either side. (Small children should be watched as there are some steep cliffs.) This two-bedroom cottage is hidden from the road down a long gravel drive. Enjoy a peaceful stroll amongst the Rhodos and Azaleas. Sip your wine and enjoy the ocean view with its ever-changing scenery from the large covered verandah. Or sit back and watch deer graze, Bald Eagles soar or families of quails skitter about.
Each room offers wonderful ocean views, even the laundry room! The living room has built-in bookcases on either side of the lovely fireplace. A television, VCR, stereo, and hide-a-bed complement the antique furniture. The bedrooms feature antique brass beds and beautiful antique chests of drawers. The kitchen features a wonderful 1954 Moffat electric range, original cabinets, a microwave, coffee maker and new refrigerator. Sorry there’s no dishwasher, but the view from the kitchen sink makes this chore a pleasure. All that is needed is your clothes, your groceries and the desire to relax. You may want to bring your cell phone. Keep it turned off, for you may want the tranquillity instead.
The cottage is comfortable walking distance to the popular local pub with live bands on weekends. Rent a kayak just down the road and enjoy a day's outing to Salt Spring Island. Enjoy a lovely walk in the neighbourhood and if you are feeling energetic, hike up the neighbouring mountainside.
If you are interested in antique hunting, a half-hour drive north will take you to Chemainus, "The Little Town That Did". If supplies are needed, you can take a ten-minute meandering drive into Duncan. Duncan has everything from fine dining, to bookstores, to one-of-a-kind clothing stores, to a fun antique shop, and all the essentials, as well.
This quote from Maple Bay's guest book says it all: Your Maple Bay Cottage is a magical place. All the right combinations of naturalness, warmth, light, ocean, birds, rabbits, flowers, trees... We enjoyed all the thoughtfulness you put into this cottage. Everything we could possibly have needed was here. We could just sit back and relax. It was a special week... Thank you so much for sharing such a beautiful place. |
