I'd like to edit my previous review. I spoke to the owner and she said she intends to add a sliding lock to the top of the door I mentioned. She also said that she does not normally rent out the lower apartment and that she does so with the understanding that the people above will make noise.Did you find this review helpful? We enjoyed our stay at Shiawa-Sea very much. There were 3 adults and one young toddler in our group and we had plenty of room. The cottage is very clean and well-maintained. The beds are comfortable and the hot tub is nice. The walk to public beach access is short and easy and the kitchen/bathrooms were well-stocked. A note to others with young children, there are a lot of trinkets that will need to be moved to the "over 2 feet" zone if your child is too young to be trusted around breakables. Also, there is a door that does not lock and opens to where I'm guessing a deck used to be but is no longer. This door/window does have a fence but it looked to me like it could be circumvented by a small child and they could fall. It would be better if this door could be locked. Finally, I didn't realize (and maybe this is in the description but I can't find it) that there is a first-floor apartment under the area we rented. I went with a cottage instead of, say, a condo because I didn't want to worry about how much noise my daughter made when she woke early or played so this would have been nice info to have.Did you find this review helpful? We have stayed a number of places around Mt. Pleasant and on Isle of Palms. This is by far our favorite. Great location, perfect size for the two of us and our dog. The owners were very nice and attentive to our needs without being intrusive. We hope to stay again in the future.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway.

An oasis by the sea, this beach cottage was right on the money for our family of 2 adults, one child and one golden retriever! Cozy, well kept, and a quick walk to the beach. Large screened in porch with pawley's island hammock was a great hangout. Hot tub was an added and enjoyed feature. Owners provided a basket of dog toys that "Otter" had a blast with! He also loved the ocean and meeting all the other dogs :) The weather was picture perfect. The location at the tip of the island allowed for a quick easy jaunt over to Sullivan's Island and dinner at "Poes". Just be careful of undertow when swimming, which owner kindly pointed out. Great vacation!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

We LOVED staying at the Isle of Palms cottage! It was charming and minutes away from the beach -- what more could you ask for? Oh, within a half hour you could be in downtown Charleston enjoying museums, battleships, restaurants and stunning architecture. A great time was had by all -- we are definately coming back!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Did'nt take long for us to feel so at home in this lovely cottage! Unlike any rental home I've ever stayed in, the owners had poured so much of themselves and their love of the coast into this place, it just grew on you!!! I could honestly live there I loved it soooo much! the feeling you got was that "you were home" The large open kitchen, dining and family room would be a great place to congregate at the end of a perfect day on the beach, which is just steps away!!! Even though they allow pets, it was spotless! Can't wait to book a return visit!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks so much!

Great location a short walk to the beach and the Boathouse restaurant. Slight problem with the WiFi but that gave us an excuse to go to Barnes and Noble and Starbucks. I would definitely recommend unless you are a TV junky. Good restaurants near by include Poe's on Sullivan's Island and the Boathouse about three blocks away.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Guests are informed WiFi connectivity may be variable but we were without internet for 5 days until Comcast arrived.

We had a wonderful and restful staying in this lovely and quaint cottage. The property was furnished with every amenity that you could imagine and was emasculate. It was very convent to the beach and to local shopping. The owner was very helpful and greated us on our arrival to make sure that we had everything that we needed. I would highly recommend this cottage as a great get-away location.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing.

Lovely beach cottage on a quiet street two blocks from the beach. House is well kept and nicer than the photos. We were thrilled to be able to bring our dog along as well, and the owner was extremely accommodating. The kitchen had everything we needed as far as utensils/appliances and my husband enjoyed the outdoor hot tub. We would definitely rent again.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway.

This cottage is clean, well cared for, well-equipped, with high quality cookware and furnishings, both cozy and airy, with lots of natural light, and really nice screened porch and patios. Everything is provided, even shampoo. The owner clearly loves this place, and we consider ourselves lucky to have found it on VRBO. Few rentals show such attention to detail! This house is on a quiet street one block from Palm Blvd, and convenient to everything. It is on the end of the island near Sullivan's Island and within walking distance of a great bar for watching sunsets. The easy walk to the pet-friendly and beautiful beach is along streets with almost no traffic. It is also only a couple of minutes from the island grocery store, and exactly ten minutes from Patriot's Point.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Queen size beds extremely uncomfortable. The 1.25 bathroom is very cramped. Unusually small shower stall. Uncomfortable seating in house and also on screend in porch. Nic/nac's everywhere - hardly any room to put any of your personal belongings. So many nic/nac's must have made it hard to clean - as house was very dusty. Looked at hot tub but decided not to use as it did not appear well kept to us. Fire pit area run down and dirty. Very disappointed. We have stayed in by owner vacation rentals all over the world with wonderful experiences. This property was NOT one of them. Have never written a bad review for any of them but could not let this go unnoticedOwner response: Future guests, please note, this negative review precipitated from Partial Refund of Security Deposit issue. The partial refund of the security deposit was due to guest usage of extra linens/sofa bed, not returning dishes to cupboard after washing and not removing trash as stipulated in the Rental Agreement. Also, a very strong perfume odor permeated the bedroom quilt which required extra laundering and it took 2+ weeks to air out the closet. Thank you for your understanding!

Thank you so much for renting your beautiful cottage to us, we thoroughly enjoyed our week last week, it was just what I needed. I especially enjoyed the outdoor downstairs shower, reminded me of showering at the beach house in Jamestown, RI when I was a young girl, a fun and precious memory for me. I look forward to being able to return some time in the future. God Bless. CarolineRecommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful week at this very clean, comfortable and fun cottage! Perfect location, close to beach, loved the pool and hot tub, privacy and tasteful decor. The photos don't show the great private multi-level backyard/garden which was paradise with the hot tub and enclosed shower. (There's a authenic oyster roasting pit & area which we'll use when we come back in cooler weather!) Owners are so nice and keep to themselves. If you don't like condos and want to live like the "locals", this is it! Thanks Marilyn - we'll be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway.

My family has just spent a wonderful week in this very comfortable and relaxing home. Pool, hot tub, short walk to beach, outside shower, very tasteful, quiet, gracious owners, fantastic screened in porch, grill, great shelling, close to Mt. Pleasant and Charleston, wifi, and much more. We've already booked another week and hope to make it a yearly destination. Thank you again to the owners for being so thorough in all that they do. You'll see us again!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We booked this cottage at the last minute for a weekend getaway, and it was perfect! Quaint, peaceful and only a VERY short walk to the beach. We absolutely loved IOP and the cottage. We really loved that we could bring our 75 lb. Boxer with us. The owner was very attentive and accomodating. We hope to stay here again on our next trip to IOP.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a brief 3 night spring vacation. It was exactly as advertised and we would not hesitate to stay here again. The place is in a residential area two blocks from the beach, about a mile from nearby stores, excellent restaurants, etc. Quaint cottage, very comfortable and clean hot tub, gorgeous large screened-in front porch with a breakfast table and hammock on the porch. Linens were provided and the place was very clean. Outdoor shower was large and clean. We spent the days relaxing on the beach and in the hot tub, reading on the front porch, rented bikes and circled the isle, drove 20min into Charleston one evening, etc. We loved the Isle of Palms, loved this place, and left much more relaxed than we arrived. We would have stayed another week if possible and will hopefully be returning before too long. Potential Drawbacks (not an issue for us though): Wifi worked but was a little slow. The gas fireplace in the living room was not too easy to use, owners were happy to come over and turn it on but we ended up not using it. Only one bathroom which may be a little cramped for four people. That being said, both bedrooms were large, the front porch makes the house feel much bigger, and with the outdoor shower bathroom space is not as much of an issue.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

Although the rates included on this site state a nightly rate that is applicable to 4 guests (as does the contract), money was taken from our security deposit because we had 4 guests instead of two and because there was suddenly a mysterious fee for staying 2 nights (although the rate was negotiated ahead of time). We were not given instructions about how to get to the pool as is advertised here and the sterility of the hot tub was questionable. We certainly would not stay here again.Owner response: Deceiving Guests 1) Our 3 night minimum rate was negotiated and discounted for 2 nights, 2 guests and 1 pet fee. The reservation was falsified when 4 guests arrived. The discount was deducted from the security deposit and 50% of the deposit was returned even though the Falsified Reservation clause in the Rental Agreement states: Any reservation obtained under false pretense will be subject to forfeiture of advance payment, deposit and rental money. The party will not be permitted to check-in and/or will be evicted, neither of which was exercised with the guests. 2) Instructions for pool access are on the website. 3) Overuse of hot tub by the guests may have contributed to "sterility" issue.
