Hawaii fun

Guest: Oregonduck (Oregon)
Date of Stay: 02/21/12 Review Submitted: 03/19/12

We loved our stay in this condo in Waikaloa Village. It was right on the golf course and next to the pool. It was comfortable and clean and we had everything we needed including fins, snorkling masks, and beach equipment. We loved exploring the entire island, but also liked just enjoying the warm weather on the lanai. The beaches were close and wonderful. We did most of our own cooking but also liked the happy hour at Merrimans in the Kings Market. When we come again we will bring our golf clubs and play more -- the Waikaloa Village course was very player friendly and accommodating. We had a great vacation here.

An Advertising Rarity: Everything It Says It Is, and More

Guest: Steve and Ceil (Sacramento Ca)
Date of Stay: 01/17/12 Review Submitted: 02/08/12

We spent a week at this condo, and it was as close to perfect as is possible. A.J. was a great host, and the condo was well-located, surprisingly spacious and abundantly stocked. We particularly appreciated the little things, from shampoo to a collection of island guide books. It was also blessedly quiet, which is a real plus in renting a vacation condo. This was our 12th trip to the Big Island in past 20 years, but our first at this condo. We'll definitely be back. And thanks, A.J., for describing your place accurately -- and for having such a great place to rent.

Hawaiian home away from home.....loved it!!

Guest: Worldwide Travelers (Black Diamond, Washington)
Date of Stay: 01/06/12 Review Submitted: 02/08/12

We just spent 10 fabulous days there and we loved it. The home is tastefully decorated, with just the right touches of Hawaiian decor. So tidy and clean! The view from the deck (lanai) was lovely, looking out on the fairway of the golf course. The pool area was close and very nice. There are advantages and disadvantages to being on the second floor of the building....no one above us - very quiet. Actually, I don't think we ever really heard any noise from any neighbors at all, and everyone we met was very nice. The only real disadvantage for us was the trek up and then down the stairs with our luggage. But then, we are wimps!! So many nice things were just there for us when we needed them....spices and condiments for cooking, bottled water waiting for us in the refrigerator, coffee, snacks, laundry detergent, shampoo....the list just goes on and on. Didn't really expect to have all of those things waiting for us to use, and so it was such a nice surprise and we so appreciated it. The pool is just a few steps away and we also enjoyed our visits to the golf course and cafe/bar. Loved the turkeys that dropped by to visit, and of course, the geckos!! Lovely, comfortable beds and couches made it truly a home away from home for us! The location was a great base for touring around the island - we had a rental car. We appreciated the interaction with the owner, both before and during our stay. We hope to return again soon!

We have stayed with A. J. three times in three years and would certainly stay there again. While not on the beach we found that all the places of interest were within a ten to twenty minute drive. the host and the friendly atmoshere makes you feel that you are a guest rather than another tourist.

This condo is great!

This condo is great! Especially the comfortable bed and the new flat screen TV. I loved having a salad spinner and appliances that all worked. My favorite moments were watching the sunset at dinner on the lanai. Your phone calls made us feel well looked after. We will not hesitate to come back and recommend you to our friends. Thanks for everything A. J.

Spectacular Pacific Sunset Views in Comfortable, Well-equipped Condo

Guest: Anonymous
Date of Stay: 11/07/11 Review Submitted: 01/11/12

This condo is an exceptional bargain given its high quality and reasonable rent. It's located on the dry side of the Big Island, so weather is nearly always good. It's 10 minutes from a beautiful beach and 3 minutes from a fully-equipped and reasonably priced supermarket. The luxury resorts along the beach provide access and parking for their beaches--especially recommended for a visit is the nearby Mauna Lani Resort, which pays a lot of attention to Hawaii history as well as having a spectacular shoreline and a view of Maui. AJ, the owner, maintains the condo in tip-top shape and provides everything you could possibly need in the way of supplies (even tools, beach chairs, and snorkel gear). He also checks in with you by phone to make sure everything is okay. He lives on the island, so, if anything goes wrong, he will make it right. The condo is an easy drive from Kawaihae, which has a great shave ice stand, fish fresh from the Pacific, and an outdoor produce market, as well as a good Italian-Pacific rim fusion restaurant, Cafe Pesto. The condo is about 20 minutes from Waimea, the cattle-ranch town, which is home to our favorite restaurant, Merriman's, which features locally grown produce, meat, and locally caught fish in gourmet preparations. It's located on a first-rate golf course, which offers a discount for people staying in the condo. If you want to see the waterfalls, the rain-forest gardens, spectacular cliffs, and Kilauea (the erupting volcano), you can do all of this is a day-trip to the wet side of the island when the weather there is good. In summary, this is our favorite place in the world to go for our vacations, and we have visited the Big Island nearly every year since 1990.

Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your amazing condo. It worked out perfectly. Everything we needed was here. The location is great. Easy access everywhere; to Waimea, to Hawi, to Kona, to the Hamakua Coast. We don't want to leave. Thanks again for your hospitality.

Awesome Paradise Condo

Guest: BJ (Denver, Colorado)
Date of Stay: 11/05/10 Review Submitted: 12/14/10

Awesome condo with a beautiful view on the golf course. So nicely decorated and well equipped, could not ask for more in a home away from home. Quite serene location and nice spacious lanai to enjoy your meals. Swimming pool on property is located very close too. Recommend this to anyone that wants a central location to travel around the island as well. Owner is easy to do business with and extremely reputable.

How wonderful it was to find our lodging with AJ in the Kona area of the Big Island. It was located away from the hassle of the big hotel areas but close enough to everything to be very convenient. The accommodations themselves were suberb with plenty of roominess, and complete services. It truly was a home away from home except that it was surrounded by exotic flowers with a long view of the ocean. Any AJ was a consumate host. He could not have been more solicitous without interfering. What a pleasure.

202 Waikaloa

Guest: Cinda (British Columbia, Canada)
Date of Stay: 04/30/10 Review Submitted: 06/29/10

For the second time in two years, we have enjoyed our stay at 202 Waikaloa Villas. The condo itself has everything required for a great stay away from home, and the facility includes BBQ's and swimming pools. We always enjoy the turkeys that roam the golf course and surrounding area, and this year we got to see the babies touring with the mother turkeys about the yard. Of course, a special treat are the Nene's that spend their time at the Waikaloa Villas. The town of Waikaloa is centrally located to the beaches, and also is close to Saddle Road for our trips across the Island and to the volcano. We look forward to our return next year, and highly recommend AJ's condo to anyone looking for a great place to call home while visiting Hawaii.

Away from it all, but close to everything

Guest: Alberta_Travellers (Edmonton, AB)
Date of Stay: 04/17/10 Review Submitted: 09/13/10

My wife and I stayed in this condo April 17 to April 24, 2010 (yes, it took us a while to get to reviewing!). Simply put, this was a great place to stay, and the owner was fantastic to work with. The condo is a two level split, with a great view of the neighbouring golf course. Two bathrooms, two bedrooms, which provided a lot of space for just the two of us. The little extras were most appreciated: DVDs, books, beach toys, and the like. This was our home away from home for one week as we visited all the amazing beaches and other sights of the Big Island. While it's 15 mins drive to the nearest beach, the condo is close to all your needed amenities, from grocery stores and shops to restaurants (the golf course has a great little bar/restaurant). In addition, the central BBQ area is a great place to meet others, and the hot tub is open late for an evening dip. Free parking is available directly in front of the condo . . . perhaps the nicest touch was the welcoming phone call from the owner to greet us, welcome us to the Island, and to see if we needed anything. I'd highly recommend staying here - you won't be disappointed!!

Best of our Villa stays

Guest: Phil (Alsea, OR)
Date of Stay: 12/15/09 Review Submitted: 06/30/10

My wife and I have been coming to the Big Island since 1985. We soon there after found the Waikoloa Villas and have stayed in every section from A-H. Hence when we found AJ's 202 we had plenty of experience at the Villas. We would go back to Unit 202 in a heart beat when the time comes. The unit is well appointed, in excellent condition, has everything your family needs, and the best instructional information to make your stay pleasant, enjoyable and easy. AJ is nearby and can offer any needed tourist information. It is a good feeling to know the owner takes pride in his rental unit. We had a home up in Hawi on the Big Island for 5 years and then sold it. We now consider 202 as our Hawaii "home." If you like sunsets, a golf vista and cool afternoon breezes then this is the place for you. I just hope we can return to 202 soon.

This place was great!!! Nice and clean, very comfortable beds. They already had things for the beach stashed in the closet, no need to go out and buy body boards or anything. I enjoyed every minute of my stay, I can't say enough about it, it was great!

Karen's review

Guest: Karen (Richvale, CA)
Date of Stay: 11/28/08 Review Submitted: 06/30/10

I stayed at this location in 2007 for 9 days and had such a great time I went back the next year and stayed for 2 weeks. The condo has everything you need. Complete kitchen. Laundry in the condo was very convenient. Everything you would need for your daily exursions to the beach or wherever including lawn chairs, snorkling, boogie board, ice chest, etc. It's very quiet in the evening and in the early mornings. You can relax on the lanai and watch the golfers go by. Relax by the pool and/or bbq in the evening. it was also great to meet people from all over the country as they bbq'd their dinner as well. AJ did a great job in insuring that anyone who stays here has whatever they will need. I actually can't wait to go back again.

Relaxing experience

Guest: Dan (Sacramento)
Date of Stay: 04/05/08 Review Submitted: 07/08/10

Very relaxing, nice and extremely clean. It had everything you need, from sunscreen and shaving cream to kitchen utensils, beach mats, spices, snorkeling gear, movies, and Hawaii travel guides. Every morning we had breakfast and coffee on the spacious lanai. The pool and jacuzzi are very close. In the evening we took a walk to the nearby supermarket to get the delicious bibingka and chichi mochi. Having already rented AJ’s awesome 321 unit at The Shores at Waikoloa, we knew what to expect. I wish we could have stayed a month :-)

Waikoloa 202

Guest: Colleen (Seattle WA)
Date of Stay: 10/17/05 Review Submitted: 07/05/10

I stayed in Waikoloa 202 for two weeks. The unit is exceptionally clean and well maintained and is fully furnished, including beach gear. There is always convenient parking and the unit is quiet. The views from the lanai are incredible. The unit is only a few steps away from the swimming pool and BBQ. As this unit is on the golf course, the landscaping is always lush and green. I also had wild turkeys visiting every day. The owner lives close by and is available for any questions. My visit was during an unusual warm spell and the trade winds were not providing their normal cool breezes so the owner went out and purchased some fans for me. The unit is exactly as shown on the listing. 202 is only a few minutes away from the beaches and restaurants of Waikoloa. It is also close to the heliport for Blue Hawaiian Helicopters which provide tours not to be missed. This unit is affordable and highly recommended.
