Cambria Ocean View Tudor on Forested Preserve
Year Purchased: 2000
Why the Owner Chose Cambria
We love back country hiking and mountain biking, particular in Big Sur, for which Cambria is the southern gateway, as well as kayaking in San Simeon Cove. The area is also rich in history, which is my area of expertise as a writer/producer, so that made it an equally good fit. Cultural and environmental attractions include Hearst Castle and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. I work with both of these organizations on interpretive media projects.
The Unique Benefits at this House
My hope is that guests coming to this special house bordering the forest and the ocean will leave feeling refreshed and inspired.
Owner's Map of Cambria
As writer and documentary filmmaker working in many areas of California, I moved with my family from Los Angeles to this spectacular part of the Central Coast in 1988, both as an inspirational retreat and a place with easy access to other areas of the Golden State.

It was our first stay at this lovely place and we hoped not the last one. It was actually our first stay at a private residence and we especially appreciate the attention to detail by owner-managers like Seaview's as opposed to the agency type home rentals or hotel stay. View of the ocean, the sound of ocean - great!! Thank you Jim

We stayed in this house for four nights in December 2011 and we had a great time! The house was amazing and huge, very clean and well-taken care of. We loved the pine floors throughout the house and the fireplace added a nice and cozy touch. the master bedroom was quite large with an amazing forest and ocean view and you could see woodpeckers, squirrels and other birds in the trees and the woodpeckers even visited our balcony! the neighborhood is really quiet and safe. there is Strawberry Canyon trail within a short distance of the house and it's amazing and you can take it all the way down to the beach(Lampton Park) where there are tide pools and amazing views and scenery(we saw crabs and a sea star in the tide pools). the Strawberry Canyon itself is great; it's an easy trail through the pine forest with lichens swaying in the wind on the trees and lots of mushrooms including toadstools throughout the forest. we saw lots of mule deer by the houses and about two dozen wild turkeys just walking by. Amazing! the town of Cambria is so nice with lots of small local businesses for shopping and eating. try Robin's for the best burger ever and their Thai coffee is to die for! Sow's Ear restaurant, which is only open for dinner, unfortunately, is amazing as well. the best coffee is on the West side of the town at the Cambria Roasting company. you also have to try Red Moose cookies, they're so good. there's a nice local nursery where you can walk around and relax(they have garden paths and ponds). and of course, there is Moonstone beach: amazing views, you can see otters sometimes, dolphins, seals and of course hunt for moonstones and sea shells. drive up the coast a bit and stop and see the elephant seals: we were lucky to see the pregnant mamas and their newborns and a coyote nearby! Cambria is one of our favorite places to visit and we usually stay at the hotels but no more! we would definitely come back and would recommend this property to everyone. James was great to deal with, the house was great and the views from the deck and balcony just amazing! Thank you James for letting us stay at your house. We had a really good time!
Owner response:These were wonderful guests and we hope they come back soon.

On behalf of myself, my husband, our friends, we wanted to thank you for making your home available for visitors. Our stay was so wonderful! Your home is so inviting and warm and situated in such a perfect location. We were able to enjoy the beautiful forest while we were at the home and then hike down to the ocean. We loved Cambria and will definitely be back!

My sister and daughter and I stayed three nights here over Memorial weekend. By the time we left we thought of this as "our house". Very comfortable, clean, nicely appointed. Location near the ocean/forest/town of Cambria unbeatable. We will definitely be back. Don't miss a dinner at the Sea Chest. The neighbors are friendly and very quiet. We saw lots of deer and woodpeckers. Tidepools at Lampton Reserve lots of fun. A wonderful respite from the hectic urban life I am used to.

My friend walked in the front door first and said, "OH NO!!!" I asked what was wrong and she said, "we're never going to able to do anything, we're never leaving here." She was right, too. All the carefully researched restaurants turned into takout on the deck. The pictures don't do the house justice. Beautiful space, beautiful views. VERY entertaining woodpeckers and we even got a glimpse of the deer. This was incomparably better and cheaper than the Moonstone Beach inns.

We spent five days here over Labor Day 2010 and had a great time. One of the best rentals I've ever experienced. Great views, super quiet, high ceilings, big beds, everything nice and in order. Would highly recommend for a family or even three couples. Better than advertised! J&S (Los Angeles).

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Seaview on Burton. We found it to be exactly as described and it met our needs perfectly. Hearst Castle and the wineries in Paso Robles were highlights. Downtown Cambria is charming. We would recommend this to anyone and will definitely consider returning.

It was great to return to this beautiful home and enjoy the comfort and relaxation that it gives you after a long day of shopping; spending a day at the beach at the many enjoyable locations along the ocean in both directions; or, exploring many of the nearby points of interest. The house is spacious and luxurious and the decor is very elegant. Seaview on Burton offers privacy, serenity and tranquility among the forest surroundings with the spectacular view of the great Pacific Ocean rising in the background. Relaxing with a glass of wine on the patio and enjoying some quiet conversations while watching the sunsets was heavenly! The home was very clean and completely furnished with all of our household needs and conveniences. Photos of this home on the website offer only a small glimpse of the beauty of this property. We wait in eager anticipation of our return trip next year to enjoy this very memorable experience!

My husband and I recently stayed at Seaview on Burton and the pictures do not do it justice. It’s located in a forested preserve with views of the ocean. The views from the back decks took our breath away; trees, birds and ocean, pure serenity. No neighbors behind the home, so it’s completely private. Seaview on Burton was well appointed, immaculate, & spacious and we immediately called it home. Mr. Kelty was also quick to respond to my numerous emails and questions and it was a pleasure staying in his home. We spent five days here in February and look forward to returning next year.

Arrived Tuesday afternoon to a very spacious house with a tree filled area. The views of the ocean and treetops were to behold. Very peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed the easy in and out location for our exploring the surrounding countryside, including some of our favorite wineries. The owner was very helpful to assist us with our questions. Truly enjoyed our stay. We would be interested in returning next year.
