Sunset Club 7

We really enjoyed our week at this house! The hillside location provides an unobstructed 180+ degree view of the coast for miles to the north and south. We really could see the surf conditions from there and also saw a whale off 'Eukai Beach. Bring your binoculars! The large lanai wraps around 3 sides and has plenty of space for enjoying the sun (stars at night) or entertaining. Four lounges, a number of chairs, a couple small tables, and a new gas grill were provided. Plenty of windows plus the 2 large sliders provided a nice breeze through the house. Two bedrooms (queen in each) on the main floor and large loft (4 single beds plus queen in back nook) provide sleeping space for up to 8-10. The 3 full bathrooms, although a little dated, were clean and fully functional. The kitchen provided all we needed (except a dishwasher). Don't forget to use the discount membership card on the house keychain when you go to Foodland for groceries. The main room is spacious and outfitted with a big screen TV, plenty of seating and a 4-chair teak dining set (which can be moved to lanai for outside dining). We enjoyed riding the bikes down to the path on the ocean side of Kam Hwy. Ted's Bakery was a great place to get pastries, breakfast sandwiches and pies, although the coffee was only mediocre. There are plenty of beach chairs, towels, matts, boogie boards, 4 bikes, etc to take care of all your beach needs. We were fortunate to have a large NW swell come in during our stay and the whole North Shore area went into a frenzy watching surfers take on the 20-30' waves. Traffic up and down K.H. came to a crawl. Waimea Bay was the best beach to watch from and swim in when the surf was down. Don't miss Turtle Beach and Sharks Cove. Shopping in Hale'iwa was fun although we will have to come back for a shave ice at Matsumoto's. The line was always too long! I was initially looking for a house right on the beach but this was SO much better. We would definitely stay hear again!

A Pleasant Hawaiian Home

Date of Stay: 09/18/11 Review Submitted: 09/26/11

We just got back from spending a wonderful week in Hawaii! Our family tree of five which includes our wonderful daughter in law want to thank you for allowing to us to enjoy your home. All of us agreed that your home accommodated nicely in so many ways. Location a plus. Each day we woke to a beautiful view of the ocean. The house is very spacious and nicely furnished. We immediately felt welcomed and appreciated all the extra amenities. Only wished the Bathrooms had a little more TLC. We highly recommend staying here since there are so many cool things to do on the north shore. We also enjoyed eating the variety of fruits that we bought from the outside stands as well as the wonderful coconut pie from Teddy's bakery! We truly had a busy week filled with fun packed adventures and had a fabulous time! Can't wait to come back!

Owner response:Thank you for your kind words. We appreciate feedback from our guests. Our bathrooms are scheduled for new tile and floor covering this November. We hope you will remember us for your next trip to Oahu. As always, we give a discount for returning guests!

Our first trip to Hawaii and the North Shore. The location was perfect and the house large and cozy to accommodate large group (8 of us). We enjoyed running and biking on the bike path, being with-in walking distance to the beach, and coffee and treats at Ted's Bakery. Close to the Polynesian Cultural Center and Haleiwa, a charming town with great food and shops.

This house truly represents great value. Our group consisted of five adults and two children, and the house accommodated us with room to spare, both indoors and out. The house is sited on a beautifully- landscaped hillside property overlooking the Pacific. Sunrises and sunsets viewed from the lanai were truly spectacular. We enjoyed the North Shore's world-famous beaches, golf at Turtle Bay and the restaurants and quirky shops of Haleiwa, all of which are only minutes from the house. While life on the North Shore is very laid back, there is a youthful energy (no doubt due to the surf culture) that is irresistible. So if fun is on your holiday agenda, by all means rent this house. You won't be disappointed.

Family Vacation Summer 2011-Just so-so

Guest: Rob M.
Date of Stay: 06/14/11 Review Submitted: 06/29/11

Like most things in life, there are good things and not so good things with this vacation house. The good; location, size, owners (helpful and responsive), Ted's Bakery down the driveway, deck, beaches nearby, and provided beach toys. The not so good; bathrooms need remodeling, geckos/lizards in the house (I'm told is just part of Hawaii), one cockroach, and cleanliness was just okay. It may be the best value on the North Shore (what you get for what you pay for) but we will roll the dice on a different rental house next time around, even if it costs a little more. My wife and I give it a solid "B".

Most beautiful vacation home in the North Shore

Date of Stay: 12/03/10 Review Submitted: 12/14/10

My 2 daughters and I travelled to Hawaii and stayed in Sunset at this magnificent home. It was by far the most amazing place we have stayed after travelling several places in the world. Ted's bakery was down the hill from us where they have amazing coffee, breakfast and famous pie!! The beach, grocery stores and starbucks were all close by. The home itself is spacious and very well kept. Many bedrooms and the kids loved the loft where they slept in single beds overlooking the main level of the home and a beautiful view of the ocean. I cannot say enough great things about this property and I hope that you will enjoy your visit here as much as we did. There is everything you woudl need and more including a great big deck with a bbq and bikes and toys for kids to play at the beach, washer and dryer and outside shower. This is one vacation we will never forget , thanks :)

Our first time visiting Hawaii, and this home was perfect for our family of 6 plus parents. The kitchen was great for cooking meals and we also took advantage of the grill on the lanai! We loved heading down the road for some great pie at Ted's Bakery as well! I would recommend this house for any family, and we ourselves look forward to coming back someday!

OUR BEST TRIP TO OAHU!!

Guest: Bubogum (Logandale, Nevada)
Date of Stay: 09/04/10 Review Submitted: 03/23/11

We've been to Oahu various times, but I would call this our best stay! A big part of that was this beautiful home on the North Shore. The owners were very helpful and friendly. Great communication! Everything was clean and in perfect order. The location is wonderful, the views incredible, and the neighbors the friendliest. It was great to walk down to Ted's every morning (instead of a long drive). It's a short walk to the best beaches in Hawai'i, a short drive to Waimea Bay and Haleiwa, and a nice trip (a world away) to Waikiki. We had eight people there several days, and plenty of room. Going the other way, it's 15 minutes from the Polynesian Cultural Center and more world class beaches. And let's not forget the shrimp truck on the side of the road. Makes a great plate lunch. Walk to Sunset Beach for the sunrise too!! What a great time. It is the best deal for the money on the island. We will be back soon! Heck, we didn't want to leave...hey Jay and Karen, ya wanna sell???

Family Vacation 2010

This was my parents 3rd trip to Ohau and my husband and two girl's trip first trip. I have to say we had the most wonderful time. Mornings and evenings spent out on the Lani will remain in our memories forever. The house had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. The boogie boards were especially fun for our 7 and 11 year old's. Thanks for the recommendation for Ted's as it certainly was one of our favorite places to eat. Whether it be breakfast, lunch or early dinner, they always had wonderful food and friendly service. We are anxious to return in hopefully 5 years when our girls are older and can experience more that the island has to offer. Thanks again!

Our recent stay at this property was excellent. The house was spacious enough to accommodate several families. We prepared our breakfast meals daily in the roomy kitchen and the adults were able to eat together to plan or review the day. There really is a nice breeze (and in the middle of August too). The wrap around lanai really brings it all together. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The owners are so helpful and always quick to respond to our questions. These are people you can trust! Thanks Karen and Jay!

Five nights on the North Shore

Date of Stay: 06/26/10 Review Submitted: 07/31/10

As a family of 10 spanning 3 generations, we thoroughly enjoyed our 5 nights stay at this property. It is a very comfortable home with lots of extras. We used the boogie boards daily as snorkeling and beach hopping were our main focus on Oahu. There are plenty of great beaches on the North Shore as well as others around the island. The 3 full baths were nice for our crowd to clean up quickly, although the great outside shower got used first after being at the beach. The kitchen is spacious and allowed several of us to prepare breakfasts and pack lunches at the same time. The panoramic view of the shore as seen from the lanai was a bonus touch. The house cooled down nicely after sunset and allowed us to sleep well without air conditioning. Although we know the area pretty well, the owners were very helpful and answered all our questions and gave us some great tips too. This was our second time to stay on the North Shore and this house and location made it better than the first for us.

excellent holiday home

Date of Stay: 06/09/10 Review Submitted: 06/26/10

My family visited Oahu for a family wedding recently and needed somewhere big enough and suitable for three generations. This house fit the bill perfectly. It was clean and well looked after. Plenty of bathrooms and sleeping areas combined with a large cooking, eating and living area meant that we were never in each others way. The spacious lanai meant that we could sunbath in private if necessary. There is plenty of room outside and the large washer and dryer made doing the laundry an easy task. The views are stunning and all the equipment that is needed for visiting any of the many local beaches is available at the house. Jay and Karen were a delight to deal with prior to our visit and we were very surprised when Jay phoned up part way though our visit to see how we were getting on! A first rate property on a first rate island. You really should visit some time.

We traveled with 4 adults and 2 teen boys and had room to spare. Each room had it's own private bath. You can easily sleep 8 in this house. Ted's Bakery below the house is a must. Here is a tip...Have Ted's freeze your favorite cake and bring it home in a Foodland bag and share with those back home. Don't waste your time and money with hotels. This house has all the conveniences of home and then some. There is snorkeling gear, bikes, and boogie boards at the house. Made for some great fun. This is a great house. If you are staying on the North Shore and want a clean, comfortable home; look no further.

Best Lodging on Oahu

Guest: cartboy6 (Elgin, IL, USA)
Date of Stay: 07/28/09 Review Submitted: 08/17/09

Unbelievable! The pictures do not do it justice. We like to stay as remote as possible when we vacation and this is as good as it gets on Oahu. Jay and Karen have bent over backwards to make this the ultimate vacation spot. The views are amazing, beaches and shopping close, and the kitchen is outstanding so you don't have to spend an arm and a leg for food. But if you need to eat out Ted's Bakery at the bottom of the hill is to die for. As for location, you can make it to Pearl Harbor in an hour....that's how small the island is. For anyone who uses these reviews like my family does, there are no smoke and mirrors here. This is the best spot in Sunset Beach, northside, or all of Oahu to spend your vacation. You will not be disappointed. Guaranteed. Thanks again, Jay and Karen.

Wonderful vacation spot

Date of Stay: 01/14/09 Review Submitted: 01/30/09

We had a great time on our first trip to Hawaii. We enjoyed the sunshine and warmth...scarce in Michigan in January. The accomodations were great. We took in Pearl Harbor and learned a lot. The botonical sites were beautiful. The golf was surprisingly affordable. We even saw whales from our ocean-view kitchen while eating breakfast one morning. We enjoyed seeing and hearing the crashing waves. For two people in their 50's accompanied by parents in their late 70's, even though the airplane ride was long, this was an ideal vacation spot. We packed a lot of activity into one week. It was great.

What a stay!!

This place was AMAZING!!!! We absolutely LOVED this house--we will definitely recommend this place to our friends and family. Great location--up the hill behind Ted's Bakery, just across the street from Sunset Point, and within walking distance to Sunset Beach and V-land. Biking on the path down to Waimea for a swim (with a quick stop at Shark's Cove Grill for a snack) was a common theme during our stay! Perfect location--not too far from Haleiwa, but not too close, either! We had friends staying at Turtle Bay Resort and they were super jealous of our place!! I especially enjoyed the yard--I spent an entire morning looking at all the trees/flowers/plants/etc.!! Mountain views all around and the Pacific Ocean in front of us! We spent a LOT of time on the HUGE lanai--lots of chairs/loungers. There was a big grill (which we didn't use, but wished we had!) and the house had very comfortable furniture inside. No A/C, but the trades kept the house very cool (we visited in May)--so cool that we had to close our bedroom window at night! It was great. The only thing that we DIDN'T find pleasant about the trip was the walk to Ted's--the walk itself was fine, but at the bottom of the hill there was a house with a BIG nasty dog that the owners let wander free. I found this out one morning while going for a run--fortunately, the owner was outside and managed to pull the dog away from me--it never bit me, but ran full speed at me and barked and grunted at me for a full 30 seconds before the owner yanked it away! Yikes!!! We ended up DRIVING to Ted's after that!!! This is the ONLY reason why I would not recommend this house to people with children. (The dog also deterred us from biking past the house--fortunately, there is a road directly behind the house that you can access from the side yard--just go down the hill and it will hit the Kam hwy.) Overall, we absolutely loved this place and can't wait to return!!!

Owner response:Update: November, 2011 The neighbor with the dog has sold the property and moved. The dog was only fiesty that one time when she had puppies which were in a kennel out in the front yard. They were soon gone to good homes. Just want everyone to know, no more dogs! Thank you.

Quiet place on the North Shore, far from the madding crowd. Open up the windows for the cool breezes, surf sounds, and bird chorus in the early morning. None of the beach heat or craziness here! You will want to spend your time on the deck watching whales and surfers (bring those binocs!), or get up and walk down to Ted's bakery for goodies. The hosts have gone out of their way to make this your home away from home - if your home is paradise.
