Six lifetime and precious friends converged at the Great Escape to eat, drink, and be merry, and there is NO Better Place to do that than here. Such a beautiful house and grounds, and great extras like the game room, the sauna, and the firepit, allowed for a time of sharing and much needed "therapy" for all. What wondeful memories we have had at the Great Escape over the last 5 years. Our 3 children and their families have all enjoyed the river, the deer, town, and the fun living the "laid back life". We all love the hot tub, playing baseball, the outdoor kitchen, and all the wildlife.

Another fabulous year of female fellowship. 13 different women of different faiths, backgrounds, and countries have all been blessed. The shopping has been Greaty, the cooking been fabulous, and the river was still as cleansing as ever. And the late night girl talks were unique and quirky. family vacation at it's finest. My granddaughters ( 2, 3 and 6 months )loved the river as well as their parents. we pulled a canvas shade out into the river and stayed for hours. The house was extremely comfortable. We could spread out and have our space, but still be together. We hope to come again. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us.

This has really been a "Great Escape" in every way. The laughter, new memories, fun and food! The hot tub was awesome, and the back porch great. Beautiful weather – this is our 4th family reunion here at the River House, and we love the house and location. Had a great time, and hosted family from Austin, Wimberley, Dallas, Ft Worth and Denver Co. We love the river house, Wimberley, the river and “Willie”, the visiting mascot.

Nice house, large and roomy. Clean. Amenities were great. Plan on returning. . There were 8 of us from the DFW/Ellis Co area. All close high school friends and spouses. We had a wonderful time. Lots of space, very accommodating. The game room, fire pit, horseshoes, etc. We definitely voted to come back. Almost forgot the Blanco River and the deer – wonderful, peaceful and serene. However, the 1st bedroom on the left – the bed was not very comfortable, but most of all the mattress and pad were extremely noisey (sic).

A bunch of us (6-7) decided to get away from our jobs on South Padre Island. This was perfect. Great house, beautiful setting, lots of activities, shopped until we dropped in town and at the outlet in San Marcos. We really did not want to leave. Willie, the neighborhood dog, came to visit, which gave us our animal fix. We had deer and wild turkey also come to visit us. I would recommend this place for families, couples and groups of any kind. The only recommendation - get better mattresses - we all have old bones. Best time I have had in a long time!

A family tradition has been started, “Great Escape” cannot be parted! Tubing on the rapids was great, We stayed in the river ‘til late! We sat by the fire pit and warmed our toes, While we observed the grazing does. Napping by the river – can you believe? We really never wanted to leave!!!

We had a blast in the river jus playing and skipping rocks. The hot tub time machine was awesome as well as the fire pit. All the kids and parents and grandparents had fun playing pool and foosball. This was our 2nd time at the Great Escape (summer of 2007) and I think we enjoyed it more this time. Only problem, we only had 3 nights instead of a whole week! We love all the new additions – the new grill, extended outdoor area, washer game. Thanks for always making your home so comfortable. A highlight for us this trip was having our first grandchild with us (2 month old). Another highlight – our oldest son proposed to his girlfriend down by the river at the swing. As you can see, we continue to make wonderful memories here and will continue to return.

What a perfect family vacation! There were 14 of us here ranging in ages from my 2 year old twin boys all the way up to my 89 year old grandma and everyone had a fantastic time! The house was “homey” and there was plenty of room. But of course the best part was outside. So much space for my 4 boys to just be boys! The river was perfect – shallow enough for my 3 non-swimmers but swift enough to entertain my 6 yr old and his 3 cousins. We all had fun building a dam to create a “pool” for the little ones to play in and a spot for us adults to park our chairs and get some relief from the heat. We also loved catching fish in our nets (we left those to be enjoyed by the next little crew to come thru), skipping stones, catching bugs and feeding the many deer that came in the morning and evening (we quickly went thru a bag of deer corn!). Thank you for opening your home and providing games, movies and books to enjoy when we took a break from the outdoors. I will definitely recommend your place to others looking for a great place to visit with their family… hopefully we will be back again next summer and will start a family tradition for our children.

This was our first family vacation with our daughters and their families and also my mother. This is a wonderful place to stay. We thought it was even better than the pictures on line. We never left except to go to the grocery store. Our plan was to do a few other things in the area but we enjoyed the property so much that we were happy just to stay there. The river was perfect for the little kids and the older kids and adults enjoyed it as well. A great place to just relax. It was a little difficult for my mother who is 89 and walks with a cane to walk down to the river even with our help because of the steps and the rocks. Adding to that she had just been released from the hospital. She was just as happy sitting in a rocking chair on the porch and watching the birds, deer and the kids playing in the river. We will always have great memories of this vacation. We hope to go back in the future.

Had a wonderful time. Let the fish come up and bite on us. Also had a soft shell turtle come up on the bank. Played games in the awesome Cover Porch thing. (Pavilion, outdoor kitchen etc.) But the best thing that happened while we were here was our grandmother aka Spitsy got in the hot tub and lost her mind. You have to understand she is 3’6”. She nearly drowned but it is the first time in 80 yrs that she has got in water. We thank you for the great time. Look on U-Tube for Spitsy getting in the hot tub.

This was the perfect place for our family to get together. We have come from all over the world to get together and the time we had here went by too fast. Coming from a family of seven children and one aunt to 21 nieces and nephews and 21 grand nephew / nieces, I’ve been to many large family events. It’s great when a wedding or christening or birthday pulls us all together again from our separate lives around Florida, Texas and elsewhere. “The Great Escape” turned out to be “The Great Idea” because the whole family had a sprawling, comfortable home where we could prepare for the wedding and unwind and celebrate afterwards. Had we chosen a hotel we’d have been cloistered in little rooms with nowhere to convene. Every meal would have been timed to get us all in a restaurant together en-masse… and eventually the staff want you to leave. Here at “The Great Escape” the kitchen had a constant stream of early to late risers for breakfast. And the day after the wedding we were able to have a huge Bar-B-Que and then sit around the fire pit. Fantastic! I think we’ll look for rental property for all future family gatherings. It is much better for “family time” than any hotel!
