The House
La Louche is in Caromb, a lovely, living village in Provence. The village of Caromb is in Vaucluse, in the heart of Provence. Renowned for its food and wine, its historic villages, breathtaking scenery, sunshine and relaxed lifestyle, this is one part of France where everything still does shut at noon for at least two hours while everyone has lunch.
A large warm and light house built over three levels, La Louche has all the comforts of a modern home while retaining traditional features. There's plenty of space for up to 6 people. It includes an open-plan lounge and dining area with open fireplace, three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
A feature of the house is its wonderful sunny terrace that adjoins the ground floor, making a huge living area. With natural shade and views to Mont Ventoux it’s the perfect place to spend a relaxing Provencal afternoon.
La Louche has been furnished with quality furniture, luxurious linen and top quality electrical equipment including LCD TV receiving English language channels, DVD player and CD player, and wireless broadband internet access if you travel with a laptop.
Designed for food lovers, there's a well-equipped kitchen and a library of recipe books, including Patricia Wells, Richard Olney and Elizabeth David.
Rates include linen, utilities, and local and emergency telephone calls.
The Region
Caromb is wonderfully located for exploring the area. There are many nearby places to visit and enjoy including Vaison la Romaine and Orange, both renowned for their Roman ruins; and villages such as Crillon le Brave, Venasque, Le Barroux and Bédoin.
It’s also a base for visiting the beautiful southern Rhone vineyard villages such as Seguret, Sablet, Gigondas, Vacquereyas and Chateauneuf-de-Pape, and exploring the region’s wines, and the hilltop villages of the Luberon, including Gordes and Roussillon, Menerbes, Lacoste, Bonnieux and Lourmarin.
Larger towns nearby that you can explore include Avignon, with its famous bridge, Orange, Aix-en-Provence and Nimes. On Sunday, the renowned L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue antique market, is only 20 minutes away. There’s also a very picturesque golf course nearby at Fontaine de Vaucluse.
Caromb is surrounded by some of France’s best produce that you can see and buy at local farmers’ markets. Eat at home or dine out in one of the excellent local restaurants. To help you find the best, we provide you with our personalised guides to the region’s food and wine secrets.

Just have to drop you a line to say how much we enjoyed our time in your wonderful house in Caromb. La Louche was so perfect. You had thought of everything a travelling tourist needs, from the washing machine down to the insulated picnic hamper, which we used constantly. We spent many an hour sipping wine and enjoying the glorious view looking out to Mount Ventoux from the spacious patio. La Louche is in a perfect spot, so handy to the centre of town. Caromb is such a warm and friendly village, people could not have been more obliging, our french is non-existant but with sign language and a few laughs we got by. The house was so welcoming we really could have spent our entire week just strolling around Caromb but thought we really had to travel to all the surrounding areas. Thank you for the guides for market days, and information on the other towns, we put it all to good use. Please do not hesitate to use our names as references for any future tenant. Thanks once again, and who knows what the future may hold. We may see La Louche again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

My few days at La Louche could well have been a year without the hassles described by Peter Mayle. I came to Provence flying Ryanair from Nimes to the living village of Caromb. It was wonderful. La Louche comfortably accommodated six of us. We enjoyed the comfort of space, particularly the large open plan family, dining and kitchen areas and the quality of the furniture and fittings, kitchen accessories and linen. My special memories are briefly living in and meeting the people of the village, and the view from La Louche's terrace where we sat in the early evening looking towards Mt Ventoux. The ease with which we managed day-to-day living with a bakery a few steps away, the specialty shops and wonderful markets and restaurants such as La Four au Chaux within easy driving distance increased the pleasure of a particularly stress free holiday.Did you find this review helpful?
