Why the Owner Chose Hendersonville

We have been coming to Hendersonville for years with our family and in 1998 decided to look for a vacation home with a year round long range mountain view. It took us over 2 years to find what we consider the perfect place. We spend as much time here as work allows and enjoy sharing it with others.

The Unique Benefits of this House

We especially enjoy relaxing on the porch/deck as it is so quiet and peaceful with only the sounds of nature and views of the mountains. We love to visit the many nearby festivals/events and restaurants.

A+++++

The very fact that we have stayed at "Bear Necessity" three different times should speak volumes. Our first time was in the month of July, 2008. One of our most enduring memories of that summer is watching the 4th of July fireworks from the screened-in deck. You could see the displays from Hendersonville, Fletcher and all over the hillsides in the surrounding areas. The second year we extended our stay to two months, July and August 2009. And in 2011, we stayed from the middle of August until the middle of October. The changing of the leaves was spectacular - each day brought a burst of new color. Our favorite spot at the house was the deck - from early morning coffee to late evening supper - sunrise to sunset - we never tired of the views. We love the surrounding area and one of the things that we enjoyed the most was the hiking trails in nearby Dupont Forest and Pisgah National Forest. There were many quaint shops and restaurants in Hendersonville, Waynesville, Black Mountain and Asheville - always somewhere to visit that was easily accesible. The house was spotlessly clean, the kitchen well stocked and the beds very comfortable. Every contact with the owners was friendly and gracious. We would give a rating of A+ to our stay.

Bear Necessities Birthday Getaway

Guest: Gillis (Summerville, SC)
Date of Stay: 07/28/11 Review Submitted: 11/22/11

My wife found this property on VROB. What a find! Nestled amongst the trees atop the mountain, a gorgeous view of the valley below, and accessible to so many things. Mt. Pisgah National Forest, Chimney Rock, the Carl Sandberg home, and so much more. Morning coffee on the porch watching the hummingbirds take their breakfast, cool evenings listening to the symphony from the forest critters. It can't get much better than this! The home was clean and comfortable, and the decorations were tasteful and charming (except for the Clemson Tiger Paw ha ha). The owners were gracious and helpful. Highly recommend this property. Hope to return soon; maybe next fall. We enjoyed a wonderful long weekend.

Our Week in Heaven

Guest: Mary (Omaha, NE)
Date of Stay: 10/16/10 Review Submitted: 11/01/10

We had a memory-making time in this house. It was much larger than we expected. There is every kind of convenience you can imagine and it is immaculate. We would recommend taking the route to the gate rather than the other route not needing the gate. It is just a very short walk from the gate to the house and the other route is very steep and winding for folks not experienced in driving in the mountains on a regular basis. The house is beautifully decorated with antiques but has very modern conveniences. The decks are spectacular as are the views. We hesitate to write this review as we'd like to keep this place a secret! We plan to return for more memories.

October 2010

This place was everything we needed - clean, peaceful, fabulous view, close to everything. We left the screen doors open at night since the weather was so pretty and it was great not to hear any traffic! The owners have decorated the home with many antique items and there are several nice touches - blanket on the couch, good DVDs and a book selection all combined with the enjoyment of sitting on that back porch and seeing the mountains in the distance. They also left out several heaters for us in case the weather turned colder which was very nice. We had a nice ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway with the leaves just changing color. Also did the Deep Gap Trail hike from Mount Mitchell - strenuous but the views from the peaks were awesome. Hendersonville is a great little town with some good restaurants as well. We had a fabulous trip to North Carolina and would recommend this home for anyone looking for a peaceful, relaxing stay in the mountains.

Mountain Top Home

Guest: Bill and Mary (Charleston, SC)
Date of Stay: 07/23/10 Review Submitted: 07/31/10

The views are panoramic of Etowah Valley and of distant Blue Ridge and Smokey mountains--the best in the area we've visited for 30 years. We love morning breakfast on the deck, looking down on the misty vistas. You can see sunrise from the bedroom, too. The kitchen is well furnished-we bring our pancake mix and local blueberries. This is no drab, stark cabin, but abounds with knicknacks from the area, and extremely comfortable furniture. We can wash and dry clothes, so we pack light. The music center at Brevard, the waterfalls and sliding rock of Pisgah Forest, our favorite--Hooker Falls--in Dupont Forest State Park, our favorite golf course, and Hendersonville are all minutes away. Asheville and Biltmore are just a few minutes farther. We always get our BBQ fix at Hawg Wild and our ice cream fix at Dolly's. If you want to feel like you are truly on a retreat, this is the place; you really have to look to see adjacent homes through the mountain trees and flora. Hummingbirds visit the deck feeder, and warblers seranade you in the morning. The home is spacious. In the past we have shared the home with our married children and teenagers, and we all had our privacy. It would accommodate a third couple and/or kids. (Two full baths plus half bath) The deck has great views at sunset, and it's so nice to sit out in the cool night air and see the twinkle of distant lights from Hendersonville. This deck was made for your first morning cup of coffee and your last cup of decaf or wine at night. (It's safe for kids, too). We have stayed 3 or 4 times, and it's always been memorable and relaxed.

A little bit of Heaven in the Mountains

Guest: John & Melba (Miam, Florida)
Date of Stay: 04/24/10 Review Submitted: 06/06/10

Our experience staying at this rental home was fantastic. The directions were exact. The cottage was large, very comfortable and spotlessly clean which helped to give us a much needed rest and relaxation. Everything one would need for housekeeping was in plentiful supply. It was a home away from home. It is tucked away high on top of Pinnacle Mountain which gives one a sense of privacy and a feeling of getting away from the everyday routines of life. However, the real surprise was the large wrap-around deck (screened in with overhead fans) overlooking one of the best views of Hendersonville's surrounding valley and the numerous mountains off in the distance. The town of Hendersonville has everything anyone could possibly need. The historic downtown area is a real treat with modern shops and all types of restaurants and events going on yearound. A quick stop at The Visitors Center will bring you loads of information and sites to see in the immediate area. A weekly event list is available for the goings on that week and it is is full of things to do and see. We visited Carl Sandburgs Home and the Historic Johnson Farm. We are counting the days until we can come back to this delightful vacation home.
