Location: Brant Beach, Long Beach Island, Shore Region, New Jersey, USA

Accommodations:  House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 14)

Keywords:  House, beach home

This large and historic home is located fourth from the beach. It is on a street only one block long with neat views of the Atlantic Ocean and Manahawkin Bay. It offers minimal traffic and has easy access to the beach.

Depending upon how the tenant wishes, the first two floors (sleeping eight) and/or the third floor "dorm" (sleeping six more) can be rented separately or together, for a large group or family. It has two and one-half baths and a pleasant large outdoor private shower, for removing beach sand, etc. This light and airy home gets wafting ocean breezes in pleasant weather. It has five strategically-located ceiling fans. If the weather turns too warm for you, it also has a new, quiet, central two zone air conditioning system.

The "big yellow house", as it has endearingly been dubbed by one of our long-time repeat tenants, features an expansive living room (with working, wood-burning fireplace), a TV with VHS/DVD player, and a pleasant dining room with a wet bar and separate wine rack, as well as a mini-fridge for soft drinks and other beverages. The kitchen, equipped with all modern appliances, has an adjoining pantry. The well-stocked kitchen includes all dishes, glasses, pots & pans, spices, etc.

On the second floor there is a queen-sized bed in the master bedroom, twin beds in the ocean-side bedroom, and two bunk beds (sleeping 4) in the third bedroom. The third-floor "dorm" has beds to sleep six (1 double & 4 twin), dressers and TV with VCR.

The back deck, located above the separate garage in the rear of the house, is ideal for a family sunrise breakfast and/or that end-of-the day cocktail hour, with ocean and bay views. It is large, equipped with a comfortable set of deck furniture, including chaise lounges, umbrella table with matching chairs, and a bar with bar stools. (There's also a small deck on the second floor front of the house, where a couple can enjoy a morning cup of coffee and a majestic sunrise over the ocean or an evening drink and a beautiful sunset over the bay.)

The home dates back to 1905--one of the earlier ones on Long Beach Island. It has been lovingly updated over the years. For example, it has a recently replaced electrical system and two 40-gallon hot water heaters, assuring plenty of hot water for all those showers.

*The garage itself is not normally available to tenants since it's used primarily by the owner for fishing gear, beach equipment, bikes, power and other sharp tools, and an array of the usual nuts & bolts, glass jars, etc..

Great "girls" getaway!

Guest: Whaley (Maryland)
Date of Stay: 08/29/10 Review Submitted: 02/06/11

What a wonderful place to spend a relaxing week with girlfriends. Even with a hurricane coming, those that made the trip had an awesome time. We ate some dinners at the house (very well-equipped kitchen) and went out for others, enjoying the quiet beach and swimable August ocean water. Visiting Barnegat Light and the shops there was great fun, on an overcast (pre-hurricane) day. We read, played cards, talked and enjoyed some "me" time. And, we found some of the best shells ever - tons of those round conch-like shells everywhere. Especially enjoyed the outdoor shower. Thanks!

Worth the trip from VA

My family (with 4 active boys) thoroughly enjoyed our stay on LBI and this house was extremely comfortable. It is on the narrowest part of the island and you can see the ocean and the bay from nearly every window. With just one block of parking, the beach never got crowded and the bench on the ocean was perfect for evening photos with the surf in the background. Come enjoy the big house with family and friends... it is worth the trip!

Great house, great location

What a wonderfull place to send two weeks of vacation. The house had everything we needed to fully enjoy all the activities we do while at the shore. Great for family time. The beach is less tahn 100 yards away and is always clean and well maintained with a lovely bench to take in the beautiful sunsets. The large deck is a great place spend time reading and has excellent views of the ocean and bay. 47th street is one block long and hardly traveled so we find ourselves playing catch in the street with little interuption. Great place for a large family. Could go on and on, but space is limited. Vacation should be about enjoying yourself and every vacation at this house has been excellent.

Home Away From Home

Guest: Fun in the Sun (Reading, Pa)
Date of Stay: 01/23/11 Review Submitted: 01/23/11

A stones throw away from a wonderfully relaxing beach where we...witness dolphins regularly, ride the waves, fish in the surf, dig for sand crabs, and search for the perfect shells. The house, itself, is like no other in the area. It has all the charm of an old Victorian, yet has all the up-to-date/modern day conveniences to make for a wonderful vacation home. The kitchen is stocked better than my kitchen at home with quality pots and pans and matching glassware :) I love the bar area--very neat! The washer and dryer, though I hate using them, makes less work for us when we do head home...back to reality. Our kids love the bunk bed room and the third floor--perfect places for them to "get away" and to do their thing. The bright and airy first floor is very inviting--the stone fireplace lends to its charm. Sure hope owner continues to rent this property as it has been a favorite spot for our family for many, many years! HIGHLY RECOMMEND 19 E. 47th Street, Brant Beach.

Great place!

We've gone to the "yellow house for several years. Our two children and their cousins look forward to their annual trip to Brant Beach. The house has great space, and it is in a perfect location. The ocean is just three houses away (and on the same side of the main drive down the center of Long Beach Island, which means no crossing a busy street). And the bay, with its more gentle waves for the younger ones, is easily accessible -- there is a free, public park/beach just a few minutes away. If you can get your bikes here you should since it is an easy ride up and down the island to the taffy and fudge shops -- a perfect excuse for sneaking that extra piece of salt water taffy. Also, check out Bageleddy's -- the local bagel shop that has them hot and fresh throughout the day (but be like a local and go first thing). While you are there, try their crumb cake, It is delicious. Our kids really love the bunk bed room, and the older kids really like the third floor. It is not the snazziest or newest house, but this is a classic beach house. You can be comfortable and simply relax.

A relaxing and carefree vacation!

Date of Stay: 06/07/10 Review Submitted: 01/22/11

My family and I basicaly grew up on Long Beach Island in the summers. And we go back every year -- to the same house. Although it is an older home, it is great. Just steps from the beach or the bay, it has nice rooms and an awesome deck above the garage, with views of both the Atlantic and the bay. There is no "boardwalk," but there is plenty to do (or not do) if you want. There are several nice and casual restaurants nearby, and a couple of supermarkets. Of course, there are the usual miniature golf, ice cream shops, boat rental places, and the like. The north end of the island has Barnegat Lighthouse (and park). If you head south on the island about 15-20 minutes, there is a water park and outdoor shopping area with some nice shops. (Check out the notebook in the rental for more local places to check out.) Although the beaches can get more crowded on the weekend, during the week it can be pretty quiet. All in all, it has that perfect combination of quiet and excitement. The house was recently updated with central air conditioning and new windows, as well as new cushions on the living room furniture and the outdoor deck, It seems like every summer brings another new change...from the new walkway in back to the new interior for the outside shower. It is a well-cared for house. The pictures on VRBO are accurate. The house is neat and clean (professional cleaning crew comes in between each renter.) You do need to bring your own linens, which is unfortunate -- but that's "the Jersey shore" for you. Most every place has you bring in your own linens. I guess it makes for easier, quicker turnovers between renters. You and your family cannot go wrong with this rental, and you'll be many of the repeat renters. Year, after year, after year -- just like us (we travel all the way from Minnesota to enjoy a week or two at the shore).

Owner response:Thank you for your kind words, however, we need to correct the information about the windows. Although all the windows are all vinyl replacement windows (double-hung), the salty air has rendered a few of the windows not fully operational. However, with so many windows, there is always the possibility of wonderful cross breezes. June 2011: We are happy to report that all windows are fully operational now.

Love this home & location!

Guest: Whaley (Maryland)
Date of Stay: 06/13/10 Review Submitted: 01/22/11

We have been going to LBI and this particular home for 30 yrs and absolutely love the location and accommodations. The home has lots of room to spread out. It is well-equipped with most things you will need to make your stay comfortable. The kitchen has everything you will need, including spices, paper products/etc. and enough plates/glasses for a big group. We often go the paper plate route - (Sam's Club) just for simplicity-but there's a dishwasher. There are also lots of big pots to cook all that seafood (crabs, oysters, lobsters, etc.) It is a VERY short walk to a great beach. You will need beach badges during your stay, but parking is free & house has off-street parking for 4-5 cars. There is lots of comfortable seating in the living room, with floor cushions that are popular for the younger kids to lie on and watch TV. There are lots of board games and books available for your relaxation. A/C was added several years ago and although you don't always need it (great breezes),it is nice to have on those hot summer days. If you have a large family, or several families traveling together, you will also want to rent the 3rd floor dormitory-style room. It alone has beds for 6 (4 twins and a double) & floor space for more, and is great for an entire family to share - or all the boys, etc. The room with two bunks on the 2nd floor often gets an additional air mattress between them just so the cousins can all hang out with each other. And, if you've never showered outside, you will be amazed at how wonderful that is! It is spacious and recently re-floored, and perfectly private. If you'd rather shower indoors, there are two bathrooms with showers, one with tub. The huge deck above the garage is a great place to congregate any time of the day. We often send the kids up there to eat lunch (think sandy swimsuits) and after a day at the beach, it's nice to relax. View of Bay & Beach! LBI is a great vacation spot, but there are no boardwalks; there's an amusement park, water park, playground, basketball court, jet-ski/windsurf rentals, & movie theater a short drive (or bike ride/jog) from this home, as well as lots of shopping and many miniature golf courses (Sandtrap is a favorite of ours even though it's not as fancy as some). Waves can vary at the beach, but there is swimming (calm) at the Bay for youngest. Bageleddies has the best crumb cake & bagels. Be sure to try some of the restaurants - homeowner has lots of helpful information.
