Location: Florence, Tuscany, Italy, Europe (Florence City Center - Overlooking the Arno)
Accommodations: Apartment, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 5-8)
In the heart of Renaissance Florence, this large, elegant apartment overlooks the Arno 100 meters downstream from the Grand Hotel. The Duomo, Uffizi, and all the other museums and art-filled churches are 10 minutes away by foot, or less, if you don't stop to window-shop along the way. The flat is on the second floor (American style) of a 19th century palazzo, built in the classic Florentine style. There is an elevator. The view, from the living room, dining room, and study, includes the Arno and the "Oltrarno" section of the city, with Brunelleschi's Santo Spirito and the Pitti Palace, and beyond are the Belvedere Fortress and the Bellosguardo hill, with villas visited by Dante and Boccaccio and olive groves, vineyards, and 600-year old cypresses.
If you look out the windows to your left, you see the palaces lining the Arno and the Ponte Vecchio. In the midst of this intense little city, the apartment provides an oasis of spacious calm, the ideal refuge from visiting museums and shopping.
The apartment has a large living room (24 feet by 16 feet), a dining room that sits 10 adults, and an elegant study with beautiful views in two directions.
The master bedroom is 17 feet by 16 feet, with a queen-size bed, and has a large master bathroom en-suite (17 feet by 7 feet), with a bathtub and a separate stall shower. A smaller bedroom has a traditional double bed and a small bathroom with a shower en-suite.
Located on the Lungarno Amerigo Vespucci, in one of the most elegant neighborhoods of central Florence, the apartment is within a few minutes walking distance of the Uffizi and all the other museums, the Duomo and all the other art-filled churches, world famous shops and celebrated restaurants. The Teatro Communale, site of many Maggio Musicale and other events, is a two-minute walk away. The main city park, the Cascine, with tennis courts and swimming pools, is a 10-minute walk away.
Just behind the flat is the Borg'Ognissanti, one of the most elegant shopping streets in Florence, with stores selling antiques, jewelry, leather, linen, groceries, pastries, plus Botticelli's parish church. Gucci, Pucci, Ferragamo, Valentino, Prada, Armani, Ermenegildo Zegna, Buccellati, Frette, etc., are all within easy walking distance - as are many wonderful shops that aren't world famous - yet.
Many of Florence's most celebrated restaurants are in the neighborhood, but if you want to cook in the flat's brand-new kitchen, there also are superb butchers, bakers, fruit and vegetable vendors, a fish-monger, etc. The main city food market is at San Lorenzo, which is 10 minutes away by foot, and there is also an excellent modern supermarket 10 minutes away by foot. If you want to explore Tuscany, the main Florence railroad station is a 10-minute walk away. The main bus station is just before the railroad station.
