Location: Palazzo Strozzi, Florence, Firenze (Florence) Province, Tuscany, Italy, Europe (Historic Center - On the Arno)
Accommodations: Apartment, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 5-8)
Keywords: Luxury apartment on the Arno
In the heart of Renaissance Florence, this large, elegant apartment overlooks the Arno 100 meters downstream from the Grand Hotel. The Duomo, Uffizi, and all the other museums and art-filled churches are 10 minutes away by foot, if you don't stop to window-shop along the way. The flat is on the second floor (American style) of a 19th century palazzo, built in the classic Florentine style. There is an elevator. The view, from the living room, dining room, and study, includes the Arno and the "Oltrarno" section of the city, with Brunelleschi's Santo Spirito and the Pitti Palace, and beyond are the Belvedere Fortress and the Bellosguardo hill, with villas visited by Dante and Boccaccio and olive groves, vineyards, and 600-year old cypresses.
If you look out the windows to your left, you see the palaces lining the Arno and the Ponte Vecchio. In the midst of this intense little city, the apartment provides an oasis of spacious calm, the ideal refuge from visiting museums and shopping.
The apartment has a large living room (24 feet by 16 feet), a dining room that sits 10 adults, and an elegant study with beautiful views in two directions.
The master bedroom is 17 feet by 16 feet, with a queen-size bed, and has a large master bathroom en-suite (17 feet by 7 feet), with a bathtub and a separate stall shower. A smaller bedroom also has a queen-sized bed and a small bathroom with a shower en-suite.
Located on the Lungarno Amerigo Vespucci, in one of the most elegant neighborhoods of central Florence, the apartment is within a few minutes walking distance of all that Florence has to offer - art, history, culture, and world famous shops and celebrated restaurants. The Teatro Communale, site of many Maggio Musicale and other events, is a two-minute walk away. The main city park, the Cascine, with tennis courts and swimming pools, is a 10-minute walk away.
Just behind the flat is the Borg'Ognissanti, one of the most elegant shopping streets in Florence, with stores selling antiques, jewelry, leather, linen, groceries, pastries, plus Botticelli's parish church. Gucci, Pucci, Ferragamo, Valentino, Prada, Armani, Ermenegildo Zegna, Buccellati, Frette, etc., are all within easy walking distance - as are many wonderful shops that aren't world famous - yet.
Many of Florence's most celebrated restaurants are in the neighborhood, but if you want to cook in the flat's up-to-date kitchen, there also are superb butchers, bakers, fruit and vegetable vendors, a fish-monger, etc. The main city food market is at San Lorenzo, which is 10 minutes away by foot, and there is also an excellent modern supermarket 15 minutes away by foot. If you want to explore Tuscany, the main Florence railroad station is a 10-minute walk away. The main bus station is just before the railroad station.

Lovely apartment with grand views and ideal location

Many thanks for allowing us to stay in your Florence apartment over the Christmas holiday. We very much appreciate all the instructions, guidance and amenities of staying in such a lovely apartment! There isn't a thing we would recommend changing. The apartment is such a perfect representation of our time visiting beautiful, gracious and romantic Florence. The kitchen was the gathering spot, and had all the equipment to allow us to fix a traditional Christmas Eve dinner for seven in style. The apartment's comfortable and spacious rooms allowed our family to group out to watch movies in the living room (our kids enjoyed "The Motorcycle Diaries" again!), play cards at the dining room table, and chat in the study over tea -- everything we would do if we celebrated Christmas at home. The location is ideal for those traveling with or without cars. We looked forward to coming back to the apartment each day. It served as a perfect holiday destination. Many thanks!!

This was a wonderful apartment~! It was so clean, traditional and roomy. The outside patio is a treat and a delightful way to spend any meal or a good book. If you are going to book this flat, you should book a few extra days because you will want to lengthen your stay. Kids had room and freedom to roam and enjoy. Highly recommend it!

Our time in Florence was very much enhanced by being able to relax in such an elegant, comfortable and well-maintained apartment as this one. We appreciated the space, the creature comforts, the views and the location generally - close to everything but away from the crowds. The person who met us was most helpful and generous with her time in explaining how things worked. This was our first visit to Florence. Hopefully there will be others, with the opportunity to stay here again.

Ed and I wanted to thank you for a wonderful week in Florence! The apartment was perfect and wheelchair friendly for Ed. We enjoyed the views from the windows and found it easy to call cabs to take us to various sites making it easy to see the beautiful city. We made many meals in the apartment and found everything we needed to cook great dinners. We had the wonderful opportunity to take advantage of your many recommendations and only wish that we would have had more time to experience the beauty of Florence and the beauty of your home. Balancing sightseeing and enjoying the comforts and beautiful decor of your home was the perfect combination. Coming home after a day of sightseeing felt like we were coming to our own home. Upon our arrival your property manager was highly informative and showed us everything about the apartment to make our stay comfortable. Upon our departure we had some difficulty with the rental car agency and she stepped up and conveyed our message of dissatisfaction with their service. She is a great asset in overseeing your apartment and we want you to know how much we appreciated her assisting us. She definitely went above and beyond what we would have expected. We loved her wine selection from Sardinia and hope to find it back home. She also told us that you also have some plans for renovations to the apartment and we hope that when you do that you keep the apartment handicap friendly. It is so difficult to find handicap friendly properties in our travels and it was so wonderful to come into your apartment and enjoy the spacious and beautiful apartment. Your attention to details was most appreciated and invaluable in making our stay most memorable. As baby boomers age and have limitations properties such as yours will be in great demand. Ed and I are so appreciative of your sharing your beautiful family home. We can't say enough about your home and a wonderful week in Florence! We look forward to having the opportunity of being a repeat visitor. Best Regards, Ed and Deborah

My girlfriends and I (5 of us) took a trip to Italy this past September. We stayed in Florence for 4 nights. This apartment is wonderful. It is huge and it has a great view, right along the Arno River. It is on the same side of the river as all of the sights you would want to see. There is a fabulous bakery just a block and a half from the front door. It has all the amenities you could possibly need. The caretaker of the property is very sweet and was available if we needed any assistance. I truly recommend this location for any one looking for a great apartment and location while visiting Firenze.

This apartment was absolutely wonderful! It was even nicer than the photos on the vrbo website. It is spacious, beautiful, very comfortable, and spotless. The terrace at the back was a wonderful gathering place at the end of the day to sit and talk and have a glass of wine - or two! The views of the Arno are incredible. The location could not have been better - just a short walk to the center, but still not in the middle of the congestion. The neigborhood around the apartment was wonderful - full of great restaurants, markets, cafes, bank - all very convenient. The kitchen in the apartment was very well equipped and easy to work in. We were there with our son, and our daughter, who lives in Florence, came by frequetly, and we had more than enough room. The study with computer was a great plus. I would very highly recommend this apartment and would stay in no other place in Florence!
