Very relaxing!

Guest: Jane and Eddie (Ridgewood, New Jersey)
Date of Stay: 03/05/12 Review Submitted: 03/10/12

My 20-year-old son and I, and our dog, just got home from enjoying our third stay in this cabin. We love it! It is so comfortable, and has everything we need. The kitchen is well-supplied, the road is accessible even to our low-clearance cars (a Honda Civic and a Toyota Prius), and it isn't far to town. The owners are friendly and helpful, and we always enjoy staying here. We hiked in the Pisgah National Forest and at Montreat, and we recommend My Father's Pasta and Pizza and the Morning Glory Cafe for dining, as well as Coach House Seafood. Our favorite art gallery is Seven Sisters, and Eddie recommends the Black Mountain Golf Course. We can't wait to come back!

The Perfect Getaway

Guest: Diane (Hampstead NC)
Date of Stay: 10/29/11 Review Submitted: 11/10/11

My first trip to Black Mountian, in fact, my time seeing the mountains! I found this cabin online and fell in love with it right away. I looked at other cabins but this one was the delight of my eye. Had no problem with the directions and we arrived right at check in time. The cabin was very neat and clean, very cozy for us. We didn't spend much time outside cause it was a little cold. We met the owner while we were there, very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this property to friends and relatives and of course I want to return back here again, staying longer next time so I could enjoy sitting outside on the deck! We went sightseeing at Lake Lure and Chimney Rock and ate at Phil B -B -Cue Pit.

I can't say enough about this darling cabin in the woods. It is warm, cozy and immaculately kept. It is close to Asheville, Lake Lure and of course the town of Black Mountain. We were very busy exploring during the day and it was so nice to come home to such a relaxing cabin. The owners made sure we had everything that we needed for our stay. I would highly recommend this cabin.

Quiet before the Storm!

Guest: D (York, South Carolina)
Date of Stay: 08/07/11 Review Submitted: 09/17/11

Where could I escape to for some quiet time before school starts back and before I would begin a new school year with 25 5-year-old kindergarten students? A little research on the internet and I FOUND IT ! I haven't been to the actual town of Black Mountain since I was a child, even though I don't live that far away, and this little cabin appeared to be the perfect place for me AND...... the price was right! After reviewing previous comments and hearing how clean it was, how nice the owners were, how it was spacious yet cozy, I reserved it! I wasn't sure if my daughter was going to be able to join me so I was especially interested in feeling safe. All of the above were true. Although the owners were out of town, we did talk on the phone and when I realized I left my brand new travel scrabble game by the tv, they were kind enough to mail it to me the very next day! My daughter ended up joining me for two nights and we had such fun exploring the town of Black Mountain, hiking up mountains before sunset for her photography hobby and MY exercise, and having a quiet place to sit and talk. I wish the dirt road was paved but the cleanliness of the house, the convenience of it being so close to town, the kind hospitality of the owners, will have me returning again. I was a bit concerned that the small window air conditioning unit may not keep us cool enough on this especially warm time in the NC mountains, but it did just fine! It was a wonderful mother/daughter weekend away and gave me the quiet I needed before the storm!.

We spent 5 days here while our son was at a conference at nearby Rdigecrest, and it was quite delightful! We have travelled alot over 34 years and this is definately a highlight. The cabin is lovely and the surroundings are beautiful. The only problem we had was not enough time at the cabin as we has so many things we wanted to do! This was a perfect home base for our adventures. I hope someday to be able to come back. I have never written a review before, but I had this time. I absolutely, HIGHLY, recommend this cabin.

Nice Quiet and Relaxing..

Guest: da Rebel (Duncan, SC)
Date of Stay: 06/17/11 Review Submitted: 06/21/11

Spent the first day in some Asheville antique barns and then grabbed a meal at one of the nice places down in town (Coach House) and then up the mountain and to sit in the cool breeze on the porch (maybe next time they will have a porch swing and I will not even come down the mountain). Next day, walked thru all the Black Mountain shops and stopped by Father's Pizza and Pasta, then back up the mountain and then Mother Nature pitched a hissy fit! When the storm passed, the breeze was cool and clean. Oh, when it gets dark it gets DARK! This is not a place for those looking for excitement and action, it is pure relaxation. Just what I wanted.... The owners are close by, so if there is a problem, they can help but they don't bother you at all. They take care of the cabin and their renters.

Enjoyed our Stay!

Guest: Love the Mountains! (Florence, SC)

We spent a week recently at this cozy, comfortable, cabin tucked away in a quiet wooded location. The cabin was very clean with all the ammenities we could want. We were close to Black Mountain and the surrounding scenery in this area of NC is breathtaking. We enjoyed the shops in Black Mtn and especially that the town is "dog-friendly." Our 2 dogs loved the nearby creek and the walks we were able to take with them. I would definitely like to visit the cabin again sometime in the future.

This cabin was perfect for our recent visit to Black Mountain. The location was secluded, yet close to the town of Black Mountain. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. The landscaping was beautiful and the deck was perfect for sitting outside in the fresh mountain air. I definitely recommend this cabin!

My family ( adults & a 5 yo) stayed here in March 2011. We had a very nice experience. I will be honest to say we did not spend much in the cabin due to visiting friends and hiking in the area. It was very peaceful and relaxing to come back to the cabin. We woke up the second morning in the middle of a cloud. It was very cool. We will definitely stay here again when we need a place.

A perfect little spot to "get away" for a couple, or a small family! It was just as described and was very clean. The town was also cute and clean with tasty restaurants. One surprise we had was how homey it was...we didn't expect to feel so at home like we did...it was very comfortable. By the way, do yourself a favor and go to Grandfather Mountain while you're there. It's about an hour+ ride but you will bring back memories of a lifetime. Highly Recommended!

Beautiful cabin

Guest: Elizabeth (Charlotte, NC)
Date of Stay: 09/17/10 Review Submitted: 10/10/10

My husband and I visited Black Mountain a few weeks ago for a family wedding and rented this cabin. The photos accurately reflect the cabin's appearance. It was nicely decorated and extremely clean. Our dog traveled with us and he loved exploring the woods around the cabin. It was the first time he had experienced this type of freedom (no leash) and he was very happy. The drive to Black Mountain's downtown was an easy 10 minute drive from the cabin and we drove there a couple times to eat. We also hiked the Mountains to Sea trail which was a short drive from our cabin as well. Beautiful location and the owners are great. We will definitely stay there again!

Great getaway cabin for 2 - 3 people. Very clean, well stocked and in a great location for Asheville and the surrounding area. Location was remote but the drive up to the cabin is beautiful and access to I-40 from the cabin was only about a 10 minute drive (with great views). Great cabin - we hope to come back again!

Quiet, comfortable, well-stocked cabin

Guest: Roach (Gainesville, Fla. )
Date of Stay: 06/04/10 Review Submitted: 06/12/10

After deciding to take a long weekend road trip to the mountains, we found this cabin for rent. For less than the price of a nice hotel, we were able to get a true mountain experience. The cabin is extremely clean, well-stocked with all the comforts of home, and close to everything while also being secluded. We were able to have a quiet time in the mountains, while also being just a short drive from grocery stores and restaurants in the charming town of Black Mountain. Asheville is just a short drive away as well. The Tanners were welcoming and informative but not at all overbearing. We loved this cabin, which was a perfect fit for us four, very close friends and family. Not only was the cabin beautiful, but the sceeny was great as well. We enjoyed sitting out on the porch, grilling out and sleeping with the windows open. Coming from Florida in June, that was a wonderful surprise. We went for a walk one night and discovered a small but beautiful creek running through the neighborhood. I would recommend this cabin to anyone wanting a real mountain experience without being too far from the comforts of a city, The drive up to the cabin, while winding, was not to difficult, even for us Floridians used to the flat land. And having all the comforts of home already there made packing all that less difficult. The Satellite TV and Broadband Internet was helpful for me as I have to stay connected to my office at all times -- even while on vacation. If I had one complaint, it would be the beds. The Queen bed was very, very hard, and the pull out couch was very thin, allowing many springs to be felt on one's back. We fixed this by layering lots of blankets (which were provided in the closet) on the beds. I actually took the comfy cushions from the coach and use those for a bed. (I'm very short 5' 2", so this might not work for anyone much taller.) I would suggest to the Tanners that they invest in either new beds or, at the very least, a memory foam for each bed. We did a ton of hiking, so we were tired at night and could, but anyone with back problems may be uncomfortable. We will definitely be back again and again to this great cabin, not only because the price is right, but it has everything -- cleanliness, location, amenities and just sheer beauty. Thanks again Mary Beth and Buck for a wonderful experience.

Owner response:Thank you for your feedback! We have made a memory foam mattress topper available for those who need a softer bed. Hope this helps!

My wife and I were looking for some much needed peace and relaxation and we were not disappointed with this cabin. The cabin was great, very cozy, and well equipped with everything we needed. From the back deck we enjoyed the sounds of the many birds chirping and the rustling of the colorful fallen leaves in the breeze. Though the cabin is located away from the city life, many attractions and great restaurants are just a few miles away. We will be back to visit this great cabin and its fine host again soon. Thanks!

The cabin is quaint, clean and cozy, perfect for a couple getting away for a weekend. The new back deck is divine; it's a lovely place to settle in with a good book and a cup of coffee, listening to the wildlife scurry through the woods. We took a nice hike through the neighborhood and discovered some lovely vistas. Black Mountain (the town) is charming. Try eating at the Black Mountain Bistro for amazing salads and sandwiches; check out the local coffee shop - The Dripolator - for an excellent latte and dessert. We will definitely rent from Mary Beth and Buck again. The cabin is well-furnished and comfortable.

My family spent two nights in the cabin during May '08 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabin was the perfect retreat in the woods that we needed to "get it away from it all" for a weekend. We loved the guest guidebook in the cabin that Buck & Mary Beth had prepared, and used it to check out some of the local sites and restaurants in Black Mountain and Montreat. Our three-year-old son loved playing on the fort at Buck and Mary Beth's home, as well as on the creek just down from the house. We have recommended the cabin to lots of our friends and would love to return to the cabin for another stay ourselves.

We had a great time staying at this cabin. It is very charming and cozy. My girls loved to explore by the creek down the hill and listening to nature sounds at night. We loved being close to the downtown for unique shopping and good local restaurants, but also the change of being up in the mountain in the woods. We will stay longer next time and have some more meals in the fully-equipped kitchen. Great trails nearby to hike--super fun!
