We stayed at the Schober's "cabin" in the summer of 2009. It was such a nice house, large and open, and well-stocked with everything you need besides your clothes and food! The deck gives fabulous views of Mt. Baker and we have some wonderful sunrise and sunset views, and the hot tub was a much-used amenity during our stay! The Bay was fantastic for crabbing in the dinghy and with the crab pots provided. We had such fun enjoying wine and crab dinners on the deck. The wooden swing down by the beach was great to relax on and watch the Bay activity. We came with our 1 1/2 year old son and the house was pretty baby-friendly. There are some stairs, both from the deck to the large grassy yard and from the yard down to the beach, which is rocky, not sandy, which is common on the island, and that was a concern going in due to the baby and a grandmother with bad knees, but we didn't have any problems! We had a picnic on the grassy lawn and relaxed on the hammock while my son ran around the yard. The main level rooms were good-sized and my mom and sister were happy with their accommodations. The main bathroom was large and well-stocked with towels, as well as a washer and dryer! My husband and I stayed in the loft with our son in a pack and play and it is very large! You could definitely fit an air bed, or something up there for more accommodations if needed. The upstairs bathroom was so great, with lots of space and heated floors(we didn't need them in July!) There is a sitting room with large windows open to the fantastic views, and a living room with a t.v. and whatnot, but we were having too much fun to bother with it! The kitchen was large and easy to use, lots of storage and counter space and anything and everything you could think of to use. The house was very clean and bright. The Schobers provided a lot of useful information about things to do and see. Our family used to have a cabin on Lopez in Alec Bay and despite many years of going to the island, nobody had ever seen or done all the fun things on Lopez! We even got to go visit the old family cabin and beach! I have fond childhood memories of visiting Lopez Island, and after 20+ years, this visit rekindled the family's love of the island. It was my husband's first visit and we are hoping to now make Lopez a bi-annual vacation spot.

We had a fantastic week in the Schober's home! It's thoughtfully laid out, well-equipped, and located on a very quiet little road, perfect for a relaxing gettaway with friends and family. The Schobers themselves were great at answering our questions and making recommendations for hikes, etc., on the island!

This house is everything described, easy and comfortable to live in and care for. Our hosts were very helpful to us in getting organized from far away. The view of Mt. Baker and the scenery changing with the tides were endlessly surprising and beautiful. We found Lopez Island a truly wonderful place for our family vacation (3 generations).
