Nestled in the place to be in Saint Martin, this very unique home offers a family, couple(s) or group of friends a holiday to remember. Within the gated-community of Orient Bay (seaside), the house is located in the more residential, quieter and safer part of the Bay. A minute from the security gate, away from the crowds, yet walking distance (5/10 minute walk) to all the attractions that Orient Bay has to offer (The 5 star beaches with their restaurants and water sports, fine dining at the Orient Bay Village restaurants, shops, hairdresser, cafe, ice-cream parlor and more). A five minute drive out the main entrance will take you to the Hope Estate Shopping Area (supermarkets, Hi-Fi shop, optician, banks and ATM, Currency Exchange, Gym, video rental, hairdresser, beauty salon, restaurants, wine shop, etc…), a little further and you have Grand Case Village and its renowned gourmet French restaurants or for offshore variety the Pinel Island ferry departure is a short 5 minute drive from the house. The opposite direction from the entrance, again only 5 minutes drive away, is the Galion beach (perfect for both the little ones AND water sports practitioners). Casa Moana is the place to choose to enjoy a truly Caribbean holiday, comfortable as your home yet exotic and unique. It is the place to be if you want to live in a quiet and safe area, but within minutes of famous Orient Bay beaches and fun.
BACKGROUND OF THE HOUSE
This 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home is a Caribbean style stone and wood construction, with a fenced garden and inside parking and a pool (6x3m), owned by a French/Maori/New Zealand family since 2006.
In French creole, a “Case” usually refers to a Caribbean wooden house. Moana is “sea” in the Maori language. Casa Moana, the house close to the sea on the French Caribbean Island of Saint-Martin.
Initially a semi-detached wooden Caribbean house, the property was fully renovated under the guidance of French-Argentinian Architects Christine Pouzet and Esteban Pocovi (Moebius Architecture) to maximize privacy and make the best of Caribbean weather and “Caribbean Way of Life”. Everything has been planned for open air living, and plenty of space. The owners and the architects have also wanted to play with raw materials, wood, stone and cement.
When you enter the house for the first time, you will be blown away by the hidden open air patio with covered kitchen, lounge and pool!
The initial part of the house encompasses now the private bedrooms and bathroom and living area with its home cinema corner. A patio (interior courtyard) has been added, surrounded by a beautiful Caribbean crafted stone wall, to provide privacy from prying eyes and a covered outside space to enjoy Caribbean living. This patio offers space for a sunny pool and deck, and a covered kitchen, dining area and second lounge. Swim and relax under the sun, cook and eat looking at the stars in front of the pool then enjoy all modern amenities (AC, Home Cinema, Wi-Fi…) for a replenishing night!
A second little terrace at the back of the house will allow you to enjoy the garden and a playground and barbecue area.
THE LIVING AREA...
The living room is decorated in the art deco colonial style with local artist’s paintings and photographs, a high Antillean style ceiling and overhead fan. There's plenty of comfortable seating and relaxing options (home cinema with flat screen TV, reading area and chatting spot!).
French Doors on two sides will allow you to enjoy the large open spaces on either side of the home. On one side, outdoor covered kitchen and pool area. On the other, garden and playground.
THE ACCOMMODATION...
The first bedroom (16m²) “Metal Chic” has a queen 4-poster bed, plenty of wardrobe space, AC and a tower fan. The decoration is a hint of the New-Zealand origins of the owners. The second bedroom (14m²) “Sugar Candy” has twin beds, a wardrobe, AC and a tower fan (14m2). The third bedroom upstairs “Colonial Heights” (24m² under the roof) has a Tempur queen bed, a wardrobe and AC with an overhead fan and an authentic rocking chair! From this bedroom you can see the sea and palm trees in the distance and with the two opposite windows (typical “Sitting Dogs” Antillean Built) open at night have a wonderful breeze flowing through while you sleep. No AC needed in this room!
THE BATHROOMS
There are two bathrooms (Caribbean shower and toilet), all tiled with “Travertine” stones, and equipped with Antillean Shower, one between bedrooms one and two, with an oversized custom shower. The other bathroom, Caribbean style, is located on the patio, but still adjacent to the house, so it can be used from the inside house but also to rinse off after a dip in the pool or after a long day at the beach.
THE PATIO
The living area extends out to the patio: there's a nice-sized pool (6x3m, 1.4m deep), a small red wood deck and up to 6 loungers, an additional lounge to kick back and relax and the beautiful kitchen and dining area with the bar right in front of the pool and the stone wall with exotic trees. The patio has been all encompassed in a high open air stone wall that maintains privacy from prying eyes while still leaving access to plenty of sunshine.
The outdoor kitchen is completely equipped for the most demanding chef, with plenty of counter space and all the small appliances one might need. You will cook and eat and relax on a covered terrace, protected from the rain and yet looking at the stars and beautiful Caribbean vegetation. A truly unique unforgettable experience!
THE AMENITIES...
All bedrooms have AC and fans. The lounges, the dining area and the Colonial Heights Bedroom have Ceiling Fans. The 6x3m Pool is fresh water and treated with chlorine. The private garden is gated and is divided into two areas: a garden and barbecue area with its small terrace and a private parking area for 2 cars. A washing machine is protected by a shed and adjacent to a hidden space where clothes can be left to dry in the sun and open air. The house has Wireless Internet access and the inside lounge has a Flat Screen TV, Cable TV and Blu-Ray DVD player. The kitchen is fully equipped: gas stove, dish-washer, fridge and freezer, small electrical oven, Microwave, Blender, Steamer, Grater, Toaster, Senseo Coffee Machine, orange squeezer, etc…All Linens and Towels are provided (including beach towels). The house also contains all you need for your baby (crib, travel bed, baby car seat, toddler car seat and 2 children sized car seats, and light push chair to walk to the beach, Baby Cook steamer and blender, bottle steriliser…)
The owners like reading and there is a collection of books in French and English, for adults and children, for the use of the guests.
Daily or weekly housekeeping provided upon request.
This property will accommodate up to 6 people (2 queen beds and 2 twin beds), plus 1 young child OR baby (conditions apply). Pets considered. The owners try to be environmentally-friendly and visitors are encouraged to recycle (glass, plastic and mixed rubbish) and use AC and water carefully (see in rate note on power use). Since the house is in the residential area and surrounded by other villas, it will best suit quiet people looking for a quiet and tranquil place to stay.

About the owner: Casa Moana owners have travelled extensively, settling in St Martin for a more laid back lifestyle and fine weather all year. Having met in Angola on a Humanitarian Landmine/Bomb Disposal project, Fred and Clarisse then continued to travel to trouble spots around the world on Humanitarian and Commercial contracts in the area of Mine/Bomb Disposal and awareness. After a number of years it was time to settle down and as Clarisse is French the idea of the French Caribbean seemed the best option at the time. Retraining as a High School teacher they both thought the move to St Martin would be an ideal way to start a more relaxing lifestyle than the previous years had offered. Now 8 years on St Martin the adventure continues with the property purchased in 2007 now available for other people searching for relaxation.
