San Clement Beach House was perfect!

My husband, college age daughter and 11 year old niece and I rented this beach house for a week. It was perfect! We loved the location and enjoyed the easy walk down the couple of blocks to the ocean. Walking back up was what we called healthy exercise as the house is at the top of the hill. The house was well stocked with linens, kitchen ware and paper necessities. Everything was sparkling clean and the neighborhood was friendly. Beds were harder than we liked, but it would never prevent us from coming back again. We loved the town of San Clemente and found some great restaurants to eat at (Nick's on Del Mar and Sonny's on El Camino). The back yard barbecue and fire pit were great to use, although I had to call the owner to figure out how to use the fire pit and barbecue. We also enjoyed the DVD library for late evenings. It was a very relaxing beach vacation (we did travel to San Diego…easy one hour drive…to visit the San Diego Zoo for the day. We hope to come back another time.

This house was perfect for my family visiting California from the eastern USA to welcome our Marine home from Afghanistan. It is in a safe quiet neighborhood within walking distance to the beach, pier and downtown shops. The house was clean and more than adequately furnished with dishes, linens, & misc supplies. The beds were large & comfortable. The TV was a newer model. Laundry facilities were good. Plenty of hot water for showers. We especially enjoyed the private backyard which is larger than it appears in the on-line photo and the accompanying fire pit. The fenced yard is perfect for those in need of a pet friendly property. Parking is off street but a little tight in the narrow driveway. Owners were attentive to our requests during our two weeks stay. Only minor inconvenience was a non- working coffee maker in the kitchen, but I believe the owners have replaced that. I would definitely rent this house again. As I told the owner when we met, "The only thing wrong with this house is that I don't own it!" Although the owners are not in the immediate vicinity, they are readily available either via e-mail or by phone and respond quickly to any needs or inquiries.

Stayed here recently and had a great time. Beautiful area, very close to ocean and pier. nice yard, close to amenities and shopping. great communication with owner, fast responses and very organized. highly recommended to anyone wishing to visit the San Clemente area

We had a very, very nice time in San Clemente and this is a great little place! The location couldn't get any better. Close to the beach, close to the restaurants, close to the shops and even close to the freeway. We really enjoyed this trip and we'd definitely come back.

We had a great time. The location is fantastic, walking distance to downtown and the beach. The house is very cozy and spacious. It is a little bit dated saying the house shows patina and needs some touch ups. We also missed a dishwasher. Anyhow we liked the house and we will recommend it to others.
Owner response:Thanks for your comments Hertha.....we recognize that being a cozy beach house and 1948 California bungalow there should be patina! The house has weathered through many years and many renters but still maintains its own charm and uniqueness. We have tried to maintain that uniqueness and have chosen to keep some of the 'character' that comes along with it. We understand that we cannot appeal to everyone's taste and that just comes along with the territory. We do however, take pride in our commitment to provide a clean, well-maintained, comfortable environment with most of the modern conveniences.

The location is perfect - an easy stroll down Monterey Lane to the pier, and an equally convenient stroll to restaurants and shopping on Avenida Del Mar. Don't miss the Sunday farmers market. The backyard is very private and perfect for young kids and a dog - lots of grass and room to run around. The beds are good sized and comfortable. In summary we loved the house and location and will be back next summer!

Myself, wife, mother-in-law and two dogs were there for the month of January 2011. Our son, and his family of 5 were there the first week. There was room for everyone, though son's family slept in living room as my Mother-in-law had one bedroom to herself. The owner, David, visited at least once a week to see how we were getting on. He was most generous in providing us with solutions to any problems we had. Ex. TV is surround sound. It is easy to mess up. Daviid had a guy out the next day to fix it. We had needed a lot of water for our two French press machines. David got us an electrical kettle. He also gave us some great advice on places to go and things to do. David seems willing, even eager, to hear our advice on how to improve our stay. The house is just two (long) blocks from the pier and walking distance from San Clemente's main drag where all the shops and restaurants are. It is just a few minutes to the freeway. The beds were comfortable. The house is older, but David and Nancy are making many improvements to it. The hot water heater was big enough so all 5 adults could take a quick shower the same morning, but he is working on a replacement that will supply instant hot water. There is room to park 3 cars off the street, but single file. Would we go back. You bet! I would like to go again next year, our health and finances permitting.

Aug.15, 2009 What a great location for "beaching it." My husband and I and a friend had a very relaxing time in this beach cottage. Great walking community and yummy restaurants. Our two dogs enjoyed their vacation also.

I was invited to join my friends on their trip to San Clemente. I have had such a great time and have absolutely loved renting a house vs. staying in a hotel. It has been nice to have a kitchen, a BBQ, the outside patio etc. I really feel at home here. The location is great. I love walking to the beach, especially to see the sunset. When David came by to replace the propane, it was nice to meet him and hear about his plans for renovating. Hopefully I'll be back to see the changes.

Can I just bunk in here permanently?!!! Lovely home, very comfortable....sis & I fawned over the bed linens...we LOVE them! We all had a fabulous time. Especially our son who is almost 9 and now loves to boogie board. We don't get to do alot of that in the desert! Needless to say, we will HIGHLY recommend your home and make plans to come again in the very near future!

Hi Nancy, As you know, my husband and I booked your beach house on the spur of the moment at the end of the summer season last year. The house was exactly what I dreamed it would be like with sunny, comfortable and clean rooms and all of the amenities for a great vacation. We especially loved the location. We walked to the beach each day and to dinner down town Saturday night. Another highlight was the farmers' market on Sunday morning. We actually had another couple for dinner one night and were delighted to offer them parking right on the property! We barbequed in the back yard with them and walked to the pier to watch the sun set. It was a great end of the summer celebration and we can't wait to come back. Sincerely, Carol and Mark Pellet

It never rains in Southern California!....it snows in Canada. OUr bodies are tanned, our spirits renewed, and this beach house has been a great place to share time with good friends. The 300 yard walk from the beach has kept us in shape! Thanks Nancy & David. Goodbye San Clemente.

The Hurst family came from Kauai Hawaii for 2 weeks of NSSA (surfing) nationals. Our daughter, 13 surfed three divisions and made 3 finals! A great time at this little house even though we were not here much. We hope to return again next summer!

Our second visit to San Clemente--and the first time we stayed in your comfortable beach house. We enjoyed our stay, the long walks on the beach, your good restaurants at the pier and afterwards the quick hike to the house. Suntanned we are returning home where we still have snow. This cottage beach house was a blessing to our family--we prayed for a nice getaway vacation since we neglected to plan way ahead! So, when we found this house that actually was available for the week we had hoped for, we were so thankful! It was a lovely week in San Clemente--thank you so much for your "indirect" hospitality!
