Loved staying at The Fairways! The place is just as described. Clean, spacious. It is great to be able to cook, grill and even do some laundry while you're visiting. Great to have a secure garage too. Got good use out of the beach mats, chairs, etc. Wished we had some waves to enjoy the boogie boards! Snorkel Bob's is so close in the shopping center and snorkel rental there is a good deal. Great being so close to the grocery store too though we'd recommend Da Fish House in Kawaihae for poke and other fresh catches. The community pool and hot tub are well maintained. Also liked the beach club that your access card gets you in to. WONDERFUL coral and snorkeling at this beach. Plenty of towels. Comfortable bed. Internet was fast and reliable. Air con at the set temp was very fine, plus there are plenty of fans. Agree with other reviews that sitting outside in AM, drinking coffee and watching the beautiful birds was peaceful. Even though there are so many other units nearby, it was so quiet and peaceful here both day and night. We didn't see any bugs either. Paul was very accommodating and easily available by phone or email with any questions or concerns before the trip. Much better than staying in a hotel! The Big Island is great. We drove (a long way) to see the volcano. Hiked in the north. Did some beautiful driving near Waimea. Took many beautiful sunset photos in Mauna Lani Bay.

My partner and I went to visit the beautiful island of Hawaii and had a wonderful time in this unit. The place was clean, up to date and beautiful. It really felt like we had become a part of the island during our stay. The complex has a beautiful pool which we went to lay by a few times, but spent more of our time at the gorgeous beaches which were a close walk away. The internet worked perfectly during our time here, no bugs at all, the air conditioning was set to a perfect setting (I notice that when traveling to hotter climates, the air conditioning can be set very low, to the point where a sweater is needed, this was not the case here) and the ambiance of the place was very enjoyable. I loved waking up in the mornings and sitting on the balcony out side of the master bedroom with my coffee, listening to the birds sing and watching the sun rise. I didn't notice any issues with the place at all. I read the review that was posted before I did, and I'm not sure what unit they stayed in, but we didn't seem to have any problems at all. I would recommend this unit to any family our couple that want a true Hawaiian experience. Thank you Paul for making our stay unforgettable.

My wife and I found that the décor of this unit was not at all as described in the listing or photos. The furniture and carpets were dirty. There were numerous roach hotels along the baseboards and counters in the kitchen. There were many roaches in the dishwasher. We are from S.W.Florida and are familiar with how to avoid roach problems. The WiFi never worked for the five day stay. It was reported to the owner, but nothing was done. The ice maker did not work and again the owner was informed but it was not taken care of. Be aware that the a/c is locked at 78' and if you want it lower, there is an extra charge. The bedrooms have extra fans to compensate for this high setting. The area is very nice and the Beach Club was very enjoyable. I would not recommend this unit. We have stayed at other VRBO units and therefore we cannot understand the many five star ratings. This is not five star

Owner response: The first comment that the furniture and decor are different from the photos is correct. The wife requested and rented a unit that was not on the VRBO web site. She was told in advance that the furniture and decor were different. The rental agreement that these renters sign clearly stated that in Hawaii there are both occasional ants and roaches. It further states that I need to be notified if there is a problem. The units are professionally sprayed every 2 months The renters did not notify me of the problem until they were leaving. Upon notice the unit was sprayed. The problem with the Wi-Fi is true. However, I do not control the company that provides the services. The property manager and I did everything we could to resolve the problem during their stay. Their statement that there was no response was a blatant lie. I even got an e-mail from them stating the property manager was working with them. As an update I have changed services after they left and there is clear 5 bar reception anywhere in the unit. There are limits on the air conditioning since the electric rates in Hawaii are 7 to 10 TIMES higher than the mainland ($0.50 per KW hour). The contract these renters signed clearly spelled out the air conditioning and offered them the opportunity to lower the temperature if they agreed to pay a small daily increase. To complain about something after they signed and agreed to it is most unfair and disturbing. They never called to ask if I could lower the A/C for them which I have done at no cost for many renters. Almost all hotels in Hawaii have preset AC due to the costs. The ice maker was not working but I did provide them with 2 free large bags of ice. I told them the new part was on order and it has since been replaced. to down grade the property for such a minor issue seems unreasonable. The carpets are clean and have been professionally cleaned every 3-4 months. However, the carpets are light in color and there are two or three small permanent discolorations that cannot be removed even with professional cleaning. Despite my explanation to the renters they still said the carpets were dirty. The statement that there were numerous roach motels and dirty furniture is a pure fabrication. This has never been an issue with other renters. Some people are never happy. 71 Five Star Reviews and 1 Two Star Review. You decide which reviews are the most accurate.

This is the perfect place to stay while on the big island!! The villa is big with plenty of space, comfortable bedrooms, large kitchen, and a grill on the outside patio. The villa had everything we needed during our stay, and with a closet of beach necessities - snorkel gear, noodles, cooler, and some kids items. Down the road is a private beach, just had to use the access card to get into this amazing crescent beach. The beach was not crowded, water is blue, and was the best beach for snorkeling out of the four beaches we went to. There were plenty of chairs and a bar/restaurant right on site. The Villa's are about 15-20 minutes away from town, but "The Shops" are right on the grounds with shopping, snorkel Bobs, and restaurants. Recommend renting a car and exploring the whole island, the east coast is entirely different than the west coast. Finally, the owner is just one phone call away, he was very happy to return our call and gave up plenty of tips for our stay.

This was my first VRBO, my husband and I were overly cautious, anxious, and nervous. The owner was super nice with addressing all of our concerns and put us at ease. Honestly, staying here was the best choice of the trip! The access to the private beach was amazing! The waters are truly as blue as shown in the pictures, but b/c it's tucked into a bay, you don't have enormous waves crashing in, which made it perfect for snorkling. The coral reef and variety of fish was awesome! Plus, there are beach chairs, cabanas, an outdoor bar where you can get adult beverages to go, rental shack for boards, etc, right on the beach. It was absolutely perfect, we didn't want to leave! The rental unit itself was so nice to have. You don't realize until you arrive what ammenties a rental unit offers over a hotel. We enjoyed grilling hot dogs outside on the patio, making our own breakfast every morning. Having a full fridge to store groceries in. Doing laundry mid week. Plus, access to beach towels, snorkle goggles and boogie board and noodle in the garage. It was very nice. The place is very modern and enjoyable to stay in. Plus, the owner was more than willing to chat up my husband when we called and gave us a lot of geat local tips. We toured the entire island while there, and yes, this rental is a long drive away from the volcano, black / green sand beach, etc, but it was worth it, this side of the island was so much nicer and different. It was wide open and new. Local shops just down the road that has everything you could ever need and everything we wanted to explore that wasn't close was still just a day trip. It's a must-stay place!

Our family of three went to the Big Island from July 16 to the 22nd. We are hawaiian residents in Oahu and we travel often to the neigh board islands. Before our son was born we normally stayed in resorts, but now things has change and we were looking for something more private without loosing the resorts amenities. So after searching trough the internet we found this beautiful property on Mauna Lani. Perfect for what we looking for, spacious 2 bedrooms, 2 levels, amazing bathroom on the master room, patio with grill to BBQ and great kitchen to cook for your family. Not to mentioned the beautiful pool area and how close is to the amazing beach at the Fairmont which is maybe 10 minutes walking or 2 driving. We safe a lot of $ dining in the house and enjoying our baby boy. I highly recommend this piece of paradise on the Big Island to stay, We never meet Paul in person but he accommodate us perfectly in his town home, including the extra gadgets he let us barrow for our son (pack & play) and a stroller. We will be back in our next trip to the B.I. Aloha

We stayed 11 days at the townhouse and were not ready to leave. The resort is very well kept and beautiful. The proximity to Hapuna beach (6 minute drive) made for a near daily commute for us. The provided chairs, beach towels, boogie boards and cooler were an added bonus. The pool and hot tub got a lot of use as well since the unit is so close. The free shows at The Shops (2 minute drive) were well worth the minimal effort to go watch. Everything was easy, which is what we want out of a vacation.

If we owned Paul's villa, we'd be afraid to let anyone rent it. It is decorated so beautifully and tastefully. The unit was convenient to any number of amenities and was centrally located for many sights. The master bedroom in particular is gorgeous and the bed was the most comfortable we had on our trip to three islands. The kitchen is fully equipped and we were easily able to whip up great dinners there and on the HUGE grill on the lanai. So convenient.!

Paul is very kind, accommodating, and easy to get in touch with. His condo has everything you will need. The complex is one of the best around, very quiet and comfortable. I have stayed in the Fairways twice now, and will surely keep coming back. Paul's unit is excellent. Perks: I forgot all the instructions, called Paul, and he patiently let me know everything I needed to know to get in the condo and settled in. You can reach him in an instant, and this is a HUGE benefit over other units. Cleaning people were kind and accommodating when we were running a few minutes behind packing up. The condo came with SPICES! a very nice touch, as those are expensive to buy when you just need a sprinkle. VERY comfortable beds. Glitches: Some of the kitchen stuff is just okay - cutting board situation is minimal, and knives could use sharpening. But this is very minor stuff (and pretty typical of Hawaii condo rentals). The larger items are quite nice - plates, glasses, coffee maker, BBQ, appliances, etc are excellent. Here is another example of Paul's kindness: I left a rather sentimental beach towel behind - he is going to check the towels and send mine back to me if it is indeed still there. THAT is going above and beyond. You won't go wrong here - GREAT value, highly recommended. p.s. I read that someone here complained of cockroaches. I've been to Hawaii MANY times - always in high-end places, and ALWAYS see a roach or two. So that is NOT unique to this condo - it was not a problem here, but people should expect a bug or two here and there and not be totally grossed out. I think this person was really exaggerating the situation and doesn't understand that bugs live in this world, too.

My wife and I stayed in our Mauna Lani community condo for almost a week. Spacious, clean, quiet, peaceful, with a gym and pool, and a garage with remote opener (very nice when returning from the beach). Cost was fair, and would have been even more so if there had been 4 of us, as the condo has 2 very nice size bedrooms. We were close to a good market, wonderful beaches, shops, and good restaurants. Would definitely recommend to friends, and will rent again when returning to the Big Island.

About the owner: Aloha Visitors to The Big Island. My name is Paul Kauffman. I was born and raised in Chicago. I am a CPA who specializes in taxes. I have traveled all over the world for both business and pleasure. I swim, snorkel, scuba dive, sail, paddle, hike, bike, and golf. I have been coming to The Big Island since 1981. My wife and I moved here full time in January, 2000. The Big Island has always been very special to me. I love the size and diversity of the Island (It is over 4,000 square miles and as big as Connecticut). It still has the ALOHA spirt and much of the Hawaiian culture has been maintained. It is quiet, peaceful, beautiful, and very relaxing. The Island has a wonderful balance between man and nature. It also has a positive, healing almost spiritual nature. Virtually all of my renters have been refreshed and rejuvenated by their visit here.

I have been here since 1981 and know every inch of this beautiful island. I have always been attracted to The Mauna Lani Resort. It has a quiet and understated elegance. The grounds and the landscaping are beautiful. The 7 white sand beaches are exquisite. You can eat, shop, golf, play tennis and go to the spa. I love 'turtle beach', the ancient Hawaiian fish ponds, the turtle pond and the shark pond. You really never have to leave the resort. It is within 5 minutes of the best things to see or do on the island. The Fairways is the best subdivision at The Mauna Lani. The grounds are beautiful. We have a resort style pool and hot tub, lava rock waterfalls, koi ponds, and a state of the art air conditioned fitness center. The Town Homes are large, beautiful, and very well built with every amenity you could ever want or need. The price and value for these units is outstanding. I currently own two Town Homes at The Fairways at Mauna Lani.

I love to cook. I enjoy the electric cook top range, oven, microwave, and Viking gas bbq. I much prefer to eat at home and enjoy wine and a cocktail. I also enjoy saving at least 90% on the cost of eating out at the restaurants. The viking bbq is great. It includes a rotisserie and a smoker. It is on the wrap around lanai with a wet bar and native ohia posts. I enjoy the great sunsets and the peace and quiet of the resort. I have views of the waterfalls and Mauna Kea (White Mountain) which is snow capped for much of the year. I love to sit outside and read while I listen to the waterfalls. I generally take an unscheduled nap. I also love the pool, hot tub and fitness facility. It is all right there at no additional cost. The beaches are great. I often go to the owners only Beach Club and take my grand daughter for a swim. It is beautiful, protected from the surf and has great snorkeling and scuba diving.
