Our holiday home is situated halfway between the Mediterranean Sea and 5-6 Pyrenean Ski resorts. All this and a lot more can be reached within 15-50 minutes. Our house is up the hill and over views this charming little market town. The view is really perfect - maybe the best in town. You will enjoy it 24 hours a day: watch sunset with your drink in one hand from the terrace, admire the siluettes of Pyrenees - as long as there is day light, and wonder what people are doing in all these houses down the hill slope - in the evening. Believe me you will love it - we bought the house for it!
The house contains six rooms on two floors, 135 square meters. It will comfortably accommodate a family of 8-10 people or 2 smaller ones. But it’s also perfect for 3 couples traveling together, and is cozy enough for just two.
There is a fenced garden with BBQ, safe for children. It is located in a cul-de-sac and is quiet. A separate entrance to each of 2 floors. So you can divide early birds from those who want to sleep until 12 o'clock.
40 km from Perpignan airport, and the train station is in 700 m. There are 5 other airports within a 3 hour drive from our house: Girona, Carcassone, Montpellier, Barcelona, and Toulouse.
The road from Perpignan is lined with apple, peach and apricot orchards that start blossoming in March - that's a view!. The town centre, a 10-minute stroll, has a lot of restaurants - well worth visiting - and all the necessary shops, as well as banks and ATMs and 2 very good supermarkets.There is a large municipal swimming pool and tennis courts at a one kilometers distance. Prades also has an organic supermarket which sells a wide variety of organic wholefoods including locally produced wine.

You can reach one of half a dosen beach resort in 45 min, and the oldest in Europe Pyreneen ski resorts (high quality, low cost)are within 40 min drive.

The skiing season starts in December and often lasts through into April. The main resorts are at Font Romeu - Pyrenees 2000 (40 pistes covering 52 km in total) and Les Angles (32 pistes covering 40 km in total). But you can also enjoy skiing in Col de Jau - the smallest skiing resort in Europe (2 downhill ski pistes, 1 lift, 20 km of cross-country ski pistes), which is only 15 km from our house. There are also ice skating facilities and snow shoe walking tours in Font Romeu.

You can also do swimming at the lake Vinca (10 km from the house) which is also good for surfing and sailing or at the thermal spas of St. Thomas-les-Bains where you can swim in warm waters against the backdrop of the mountains.

Casino and nightclub in Vernet les Bains, wine making village just six kilometers away and a lot of wine related activities all around the area.

Prades is a cultural town holding events and festivals throughout the year. Spanish cellist Pablo Casals fled to Prades during the Spanish civil war and established the festival that is now held each year for two weeks in July-August at Prades itself, but also in the Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa.
A big and colourful market takes place on Tuesday and Saturday mornings where you can buy peaches and cherries that are grown in abundance here, fresh vegetables, wonderful cheeses and very nice wine.

There is dancing in the square every night. And Andorra is only a one and a half hour drive away.

Diving at Argeles, Banyuls, Port Vendres, Bacares, St Cyprien and Collioure.
Golf in Marcevol (10 km, 9 holes) and at Font Romeu - 9 hole golf course at a beautiful mountain setting. St Cyprien-Plage on the coast has a 27 hole golf course.
Spas and thermal baths in Vernet-les-Bains (Rheumatology) and Molitg-les-Bains (Respiratory pathologies and Skin diseases). Outstanding natural sulphurous hot springs in wonderful outdoor mountain setting in St Thomas les Bains.
Fishing - trout, salmon, carps and pikes.
Walking - all ability walking is available in abundance from your doorstep!
Also within easy reach are the four nature reserves of Py, Mantet, Nyer and Jujois, as is the Carlit Massif, a very popular region for walking the GR10 coast to coast path and Pyrenean route across the massif. In addition, several summits are accessible to walks as well as challenging rock climbs.
2 adventure parks (both within 10 min drive)will keep you and your children busy for half a day swinging from cables , ropes and rock-faces.


Places to visit
Villefranche de Conflent A beautiful medieval town with complete fortified walls. There are also stalactites caves at a one km distance from the town. And the town itself is the starting point for a ride on Yellow Train, probably the number one attraction in the area. You can ride in open or closed top carriages admiring the breathtaking view from Villefranche de Confluent to Mont Louis.

Abbeys at St Martin de Canigou & St Michel de Cuxa are superb examples of Romanesque architecture in beautiful locations. The 1.3 km long path to St Michel de Cuxa starts almost from the gate of the house. By the way, St Michel de Cuxa it that very place where the heroine finally kills Dracula in the best-seller by Elizabeth Kostova 'The Historian'.

Tautavel Museum, believed to be the site of the oldest human in Europe, the museum and the exhibition hall have multimedia audiovisual displays.

Spectacular panoramic views can be enjoyed in Les Lacs des Bouillouses where you can get by chair lift.
The Perfume Tower in Mosset, the organ shaped mountains near Ille-sur-Tet can be reached in 15 minutes, the Solar Oven at Mont-Louis in 30 minutes by car.

And also Perpignan with its Palace of the Kings of Majorca at a 40 kilometer distance, Collioure with its Royal palace overlooking one of the most beautiful ports in France, Ceret with its Modern Arts museum, Carcassone, the magnificent medieval walled cite, famously the backdrop of a number of movies,are well worth visiting.
