Welcome to Casa Milonga. (By the way, a milonga is an Argentine tango party, one of our very favorite things.)

Casa Milonga is located in the popular neighborhood of San Antonio, a five minute walk from the Instituto Allende (An Art and Language School) and fifteen minutes from the Jardin/Town Center. San Antonio is a safe and friendly mixed community of Mexican families and foreign residents, offering the dynamics of everyday culture, but only minutes away from all of the highlights of San Miguel.

Several small food markets and family run restaurants are within a five minute walk. On Sundays, a fabulous food market runs for four hours only two minutes away. The old and lovely San Antonio church is located at the end of our short street.

From the fourth-floor terrace-top of Casa Milonga you can see a panoramic 360 degrees and the entire city of San Miguel, including the grand Parroquia Cathedral (next to the Jardin) and the fireworks which they seem to find a reason to light the sky with nearly every week. Casa Milonga is a free standing house unto itself in a small group of homes which share privacy and safety behind a street wall and gate. Our little group of houses are evenly divided between local families and retired foreigners.

CASA MILONGA is divided into two residences:

CASA MILONGA UNO, the larger top residence, comprising the second and third floors plus the inviting terrace with tiled palapa roof (complete with hammock) is a beautiful and comfortable home, decorated with a mixture of Mexican modern, colonial, and folk art that will delight your senses and cheer your heart. It has one and a half newly tiled baths, a master bedroom with queen-size bed and fabulous pressed metal folk art headboard, a separate bedroom/writing study with a twin bed, a second floor living room/den with large couch, TV, and stereo. On the third floor is a full beautiful kitchen with traditional Mexican pottery dishes, an open dining room with a wooden table for six to eight, and a living room with a gorgeous view of the city center. There is heat on all the floors.

CASA MILONGA UNO suits one to three people easily, though either couch could become a bed for single guests. The new kitchen has all the amenities plus a dishwasher and three-sided counter space for more lavish culinary pursuits. The secluded second floor living room is ideal for quiet reading (we have a small library of classics and contemporary books) or watching movies from a DVD or VHS, as well as television with several English channels.

The third floor living room is bright with a tremendous view inspiring one to just sit and watch the city from a treetop view. A washer, dryer, and clothes line on the terrace make laundry easy. At about 1600 square feet this home allows each of its guests to pursue their personal passions with ease. Bring binoculars - the birdwatching is great.

CASA MILONGA DOS with its own entrance on the ground floor is about 550 square feet, colorfully painted and charming with a bedroom, full Talevera tiled bathroom, small living room, very sweet kitchen, and dining area.

The ground floor apartment is for one or two people containing one double bed (photo x), closet and dressers. The kitchen is fully-equipped with stove, oven, microwave, blender, coffeemaker, pots, pans, and dishes. Further amenities include a television, phone, gas heater, and portable CD radio.

Both rentals come with ample linens which the once a week maid will attend to.

  • We have so enjoyed our last 2 winters at Casa Milonga. Their website says it all-the ambiance, the neighbourhood, the magnificent views etc. The proprietors are caring home owners, doing everything possible to make your stay comfortable. We highly recommend this beautiful casa in this most unique town..Mike & Arlene

  • I wish we were still in San Miguel, on the terrace at Casa Milonga. We had such a lovely time -- great town, great food, great people! Walking on Orizaba and turning the corner onto Callejon de la Palma were so special, and approaching Casa Milonga through the black gate was the best. But the prettiest part, I think, was the area you recommended -- Sollano walking down toward Juarez Park. The food was so, so wonderful. My favorite dinner was tacos al pastor from the stand at the corner of Ancha and Calle Nueva. And the chile relleno at El Correo. And the outdoor seating at Ten Ten Pie! I hope that we'll have a chance to return someday soon.

  • A friend and I stayed in Milonga Dos the month of February 2008 - it was exactly as the photos show... affordable, colourful and accommodating. Close to everything - in fact, a lovely walk into the Central area of town, with its Jardin (town square), and very close to Instituto Allende and another language school. San Miguel was a real treat!
